A Christmas Morning Thundercats Celebration
Tumblr media
Merry Christmas! I just released another edition of the Saturday Morning Cartoon Fun Times VHS compilation. This one is overdue! The arrival of Thundercats in 1985 was the first time my love for all things Masters of the Universe was questioned. I remember the two shows playing back-to-back after school. He-Man’s economic animation did not hold a candle to this new show.
Did you collect any Thundercats stuff? My favourite toy was the full-size Sword of Omens that my godmother got me for my birthday. The cat-eye lit up with the press of a button. I only had a few of the figures, one of which was Jaga. I lent it to a friend and apparently his neighbour stole it. I did have a good collection of the mini figures, including the mini Cat’s Lair. And the Panini sticker-book was tops.
“Exodus: The Movie” is the first four episodes of the first season edited into a feature film. I acquired the VHS tape earlier this year and wanted to compile the film with some toy commercials and local advert spots. Hope you dig it. (Running time 1:28.32, 735mb.) Download

ThunderCats are on the mov(i)e! After years of false starts and announcements that didn’t go anywhere, it seems that the beloved ‘80s cartoon has a giant sized champion behind it. Adam Wingard, director of Godzilla vs. Kong, is working on a ThunderCats film that will be a hybrid live action/CGI movie. Wingard will direct the ThunderCats movie and co-write the script with Simon Barrett.
This raises a lot of questions about the film, especially considering the recent flux in ThunderCats media. The original ThunderCats was about as perfect an example of ‘80s action adventure cartoon series can be and the early 2010s reboot series took a mostly serious approach to the franchise with a more deeply layered story. Then in 2020 ThunderCats Roar was a huge departure, featuring a much more comedic tone and style than the previous series…

As promised, here are the scans for the NEW set of production material from the 2011 ThunderCats series that I bought! Specifically, there were used for episode 20: “Curse of Ratilla”. As a ThunderCats Historian, I feel it’s my duty and privilege to obtain and preserve things from these series. So, I’ve purchased, scanned, and am now uploading, these in-studio model sheets from the 2011 series. I’m hoping that I can also do so with the original series as well whenever they show up (and hopefully I’ll have the money to drop on them). These have a right to be preserved and enjoyed. If you’re just a regular fan, you’re welcome to save, use, or publish these. Same goes if you run general animation sites/blogs/whatever. However, if you run a ThunderCats site/blog/page/whatever, then I require that you e-mail me at [email protected] to discuss posting of these on your various media sources.

See It Firsts for 11/13/2020
Almost every Friday, Cartoon Network puts up new episodes that have yet to air on TV on their website, app, and On Demand services. These are called See It Firsts, and this week’s is pretty similar to last week’s: it’s just ThunderCats Roar. There is one thing that’s interesting, though: this week’s has an episode that isn’t going to air in November: instead of Tears for Plun-Darr, we’re getting the ThunderCats Roar Holiday Special. Mistake? Maybe.
Swampy Johnny - The Thundercats invite a super cool swamp man into the Cat’s Lair who is on the run from some scary looking aliens!
Tygra’s Garden - Tygra says he’s done being a Thundercat after he gets engaged to a sentient flower. Now it’s up to Lion-O to break up the wedding!
The Space Beam - The new rulers of Plun-Darr say they’ll bring one of the Mutants home; whichever one of them activates a homing beacon that will blow up the Thundercats. Now it’s every Mutant for themselves as they battle it out to be the one to activate the beacon!
Plundsmas - The Mutants refuse to celebrate their favorite holiday, Plunds-Mas, now that Plun-Darr is gone. So now it’s up to the Thundercats to raise their spirits by enacting the eight horrors of Plunds-Mas!
Killing Time - Mumm-Ra, the Ever-Living decides he’ll nap for a thousand years, till the Thundercats are long gone. But when he wakes up, he’s shocked to discover that Third Earth is even more in love with them than ever.
Grune - The ThunderCats face the greatest threat of their lives: Grune the Destroyer! He’s the ghost of an evil ThunderCat and he wants revenge! How are They Gonna Beat Grune??? You’ll have to watch the episode!
If you have a cable or satellite subscription, one can check it out. Stay tuned.
