i greatly apologize for the absence on this blog! i haven’t had much art inspiration lately and have been having confidence issues that have made me not want to draw xd
but i want to draw some cats so i’m opening this up again for a fresh start! i completely cleared the inbox because there were over 200 requests and i didn’t want to go through all of those, so i’m starting clean. if you have a request for a character you want me to design, please send a request through the inbox. however, please make sure i haven’t already designed the character by looking them up on the blog page. also, please do not request more than 2 or 3 characters per message. thank you!

Could you share some references for cat genetics?
hey sorry for the late reply! there aren’t a lot of resources that easily explain cat genetics. i was taught on a warrior cats rp forum……. but the only public resource i can think of is http://messybeast.com/genetics-index.htm Cat genetics are very simple though imo, if you want the barebones basics then here’s a very basic outline:- Cat coat colors are divided into 2 groups - black and red. The black group consists of black, obviously, as well as ALL modified versions of black (gray/blue, chocolate, cinnamon, lilac, fawn), while the red group consists only of red and cream (dilute red). - Coat color is carried on the X alleles, aka what determines sex. XX is female, XY is male. Females get one coat color from mom and one from dad because they have 2 X alleles, which is why they can get two different colors and be a tortie. Males have one X allele and they ONLY get the coat color from their mother because they get their X from mom and the Y from dad.- Black fur has two notable modifiers, the chocolate gene and the cinnamon gene, which cause chocolate and cinnamon fur respectively. Both of these genes are recessive, and chocolate is dominant over cinnamon. These are rarely found in feral cats IRL but this is warriors so fuck real life. Red fur has no color modifiers that I’m aware of- The dilute gene is recessive and makes the coat paler. This turns black into gray, red into cream, chocolate into lilac, and cinnamon into fawn- There are four groups of tabby: mackerel, classic, spotted, and ticked. Tabby is dominant over solid fur.- Short fur is dominant over long fur- Notable dominant pattern genes include: white spotting, smoke/silver- Notable recessive pattern genes include: points

thistleclaw? also, quick question- how would whitestorm be a brown tabby when neither of his parents have brown? :0
i headcanon thistleclaw as a silver tabby!! so brown tabby would be possible, since silver tabby is just a brown tabby with the silver gene

Note
Could a cat be black masking, or can they only be white masking
nope! only white can mask a color, so if the cat has any white it will show up on the black
