Progress Update #8
I’ve finished transposing my designs onto the bag and shoes!
While I’m unsure how the fabric would have compared to the paper and cardstock prints I used, the results turned out much better than I expected. I’m especially happy with how the shoes look, even without the fabric I originally planned to use.
All that’s left to do is add the shoelaces back to the shoes and take photos for my capstone website.

Progress Update #7:
My three stretched canvas textile displays are finished! Unfortunately, the fabric I ordered didn’t arrive last Saturday, so I had to use cardstock prints I ordered from Office Max instead. Surprisingly, they turned out better than expected, though there is some slight creasing near the edges.

My fabric has finally shipped! 🎉 It’s about two weeks later than expected due to some edits to the shipment, but fingers crossed it arrives by the end of the week.🤞 Will be picking up paper printed designs from office max tomorrow just in-case.

Mini Update
I measured the stretched canvas and printed the design to match its dimensions. The print quality is not final. I’ll be adding a bleed to ensure the design wraps around the canvas rather than just sitting on top. I plan to place the order soon and pick it up later this week! I just need to figure out how I will be layering the design on the shoe and bad.

Progress Update #5
Aloha, here’s my progress update #5!
Updates:
Stretched canvases have arrived.
Shoe and bag are ready for customization (waiting for fabrics)
Plan:
I will print my designs on fabric and transpose them onto an 8 x 8 stretched canvas (created by gluing four 4 x 4 canvases together). This will be done for all three designs.
One design will also be cut and fitted onto the shoe and bag.
Deliverables:
Three stretched canvas design displays.
One shoe customized with my design.
One bag featuring my design as an accessory.
A QR code linking to a Canva website explaining my project.
Mahalo!

Design 3 - Earth’s Weaves (Earth Tones and Linear Geometry): Inspired by African mud cloth, Pacific tapa, and Navajo textiles, this piece emphasizes grounding and connection to the land through earthy colors and structured repetitions. The triangles represent mountains, symbolizing resilience and growth, grounded in stability while reaching for greater heights.

Design 2 - Threaded Waves (Oceanic Flow): Reflecting Polynesian wave motifs, Swahili rhythms, and Andean symmetry, this pattern incorporates flowing shapes and vibrant contrasts to represent life cycles and unity. The patterns and colors symbolize nature's renewal cycle: wildfires clear debris and release nutrients, while rain rejuvenates and restores balance.

Design 1 - Lotus Tiles (Vibrant Symmetry): Combining influences from Ashanti Kente cloth, Huichol art, and Islamic tessellations, The central lotus tile symbolizes purity and renewal, the chevron tile represents progression and aspiration, and the diamond tile conveys balance, harmony, and interconnectedness. The bold colors and layered patterns help to symbolize unity, energy, resilience, and interconnectedness.

Aloha, this is my introduction for my West Oahu Capstone. The past capstone I chose to highlight was Benjamin Duong's project, which explored the relationship between productivity and Lofi hip-hop music.
