IT HAD HAPPENED QUICKLY . so quickly in fact , silence lingers over the camp whilst witnesses and onlookers still try to figure out what just happened . a man lies dead , his throat slashed all the way to the bone ; the spine shimmering grey in the mangled flesh . ice - river clan , some murmur already , inspecting the markings on his face and hands , and all surprise fades gradually . he had it coming . whatever he's done . the dagger in her hand is dripping blood ; red drops falling from her fingers , the spray of it still warm on her cheek .
