Week 10: Water Poster
This poster was designed by Lorenzo Petranoni. There is a strong presence of gestalt as the sans-serif, mono text is formed into strips and used to create the illusion of a splash of water from a tap above. The same font is used at different scales and upper/lower-cases to create emphasis within each of the three elements in the poster. The font has a clean feel that transitions nicely to render an image.

The text, which is a letter a dressed to someone, is rendered from someone’s script handwriting. It is not entirely legible, so it is used as more of a visual element than as type. The text has a messy and irregular feel.

Week 7: Paper Type Design
This 3D typeface (artist unknown) uses layers of colored paper to create letters that look like a topographical map. Each letter is organic, lacking serifs or any straight lines. There is a sense of movement and depth within each character as the lines concentrically expand and digress. This would definitely be a headline font in regards to its scale and complexity.

Week 5: Samarskaya & Partners Logo
Designer: KSENYA SAMARSKAYA
This typographic logo was designed by Ksenya Samarskaya, who is a graphic and typeface designer based in the United States. The serfis of each character are a unique, curved teardrop shape giving the font a sense of flowing movement and seamless transition. Negative space is used to create gestalt in the forms of the letters. The lettering is successful logos or possibly other headlines, but would become visually dense in body copy.

Week 3: Typophoto
Designer: Karel Tiege
This alphabet was created by Karel Tiege which uses photographs of the dancer Milca Mayerová to create sans serif letter forms. Each letter has a collage-like feeling to it. The dancer’s body is strategically positioned to translate each letter’s anatomy. In the context provided, it is easily legible. However, a single form out of context would, in my opinion, be difficult to translate.
