George RR Martin’s most impressive trick may have been getting us to accept, without ridicule, a dragon named Drogon.

Going to the gym and seeing all those people lift the highest weights around like it’s nothing while you’re still new is kind of like being in an MMO town hub after you just finished the tutorial and seeing all the max level people flex their end-game gear

Vampires can’t eat garlic, they can’t go in sunlight and they are scared of crucifixes, they are anti-Italians.

There are 2 days in everybody’s life that are less than 24 hours long. The day they’re born and the day they die.

When people talk about traveling to the past, they worry about radically changing the present by doing something small, but barely anyone in the present really thinks that they can radically change the future by doing something small.

De Nuevo
Last night I couldn’t sleep. It took me hours and finally I drifted off to a turbulent sleep around 2:30am. I had a dream which I can’t recall now, though it’s on the tip of my tongue. I woke up at 5:45am to the cat pawing at Chris’ door and shouting her trademark, never-the-same-tone meows into the morning darkness. Chris got up and ate breakfast. I lay there awake. My alarm was not set to go off for another 3 hours. I remembered the additional pizzas a party called in on Monday that I forgot to relay to Marco’s. I remembered that it’s recycling Wednesday so I texted Chris to remind him. I hear his phone go off from somewhere beyond my bedroom door. He still has that Catbug notification tone. “Another note!” his phone yells in that distinct, high pitched, cartoon voice. He responds and then hops in the shower. Before long the cat is yelling again at the bathroom door to be let in. It is their morning ritual. I suppose he hadn’t hopped in the shower yet since he let her in beforehand. She meowed all during the shower and Chris meowed back each time. It’s his trademark move to do so.
I feel rumbles in my abdomen. I feel the indigestion cramps and need to get to the bathroom soon. I had felt them from the moment I woke up sweating. I have no idea what it was that I ate this time that upset me. Probably the Dunkin sandwiches I had for breakfast. I knew I shouldn’t eat 2 of them but I did anyway. Now I pay the price. It’s not worth it. One sandwich from now on. Better yet I should make my own breakfast. The rumbles subside as Chris finishes and leaves for school. I heard him pull the recycling bin to the road before his car backs out of the drive.
I get up and stumble to the bathroom. I take care of business and decide that I won’t be able to get back to sleep now. The sun is coming up and I actually don’t feel very tired. My eyes feel worn out already but the rest of me seems fine. I take a nice long shower to wake up and refresh myself. It did me good. I decide to just start my day from there. My coworkers and friends have heard me say if I’m ever up and out of bed before 8am the house is on fire. Well, I guess some pig flew across the crisp morning sky today because I was dressed and ready for work by 8. I didn’t have to be in until 10. I remembered my car payment I was too lazy to go make the day before. I looked up when the credit union opened and my glowing rectangle said 8:30. I decided to venture out and run the errand before work.
It was a pleasant drive up to North Canton and was an equally pleasant trip down to Belden. I passed Chik Fil A in favor of a different morning treat. I pulled into Panera’s parking lot around 9:15. I got an Asiago bagel, cut and toasted, with onion and chive cream cheese, a ham and egg sandwich, and a hazelnut coffee. The girl at the register also told me I had a free pastry in my My Panera card. Hot damn. I took a chocolate pastry. Chocolate is my kryptonite. It took the Panera chefs a while to make my breakfast. I was in no hurry and had plenty of time to head to work. It was only 2 minutes away. On my way there with food in hand I turned right out of the parking lot. Dressler is a 4 lane road with center turn lane. Does that make it a 5 lane road? I’ve never known the answer. Anyhow, I turn into the right lane like a good, law abiding citizen. As I’m getting up to speed a vehicle in the left lane catches up. I need to be where they are so I can turn left at the light ahead. I ease off the gas to get behind this person. Apparently, they did the same. I speed up a bit to get in front of them. Again, the same thing. I really, really don’t like playing this game. So I step on it and leave them in the dust and get ahead of them and into the left turn lane. They end up heading to Planet Fitness. I continue past the gym I have yet to use with my newly acquired membership across the parking lot to Sky Zone.
I’ve been awake for 4 hours already. I can hardly believe it. Getting up early is great! I should try getting 3 hours of sleep more often! Alas, I love sleep. It’s so cozy and comfy in my bed. But the feeling of accomplishment from doing things early was almost, dare I say... better? Maybe I have what it takes to get up early and hit the gym. Maybe I don’t. I am certainly more motivated now than I have been in the recent past. Only time will tell, but I’m as optimistic as ever.
Let’s see what tomorrow brings.
