UBLC 3 v 5 Churchill FC
UBLC managed to hold a strong Churchill side to 3-3 with five minutes to go, after a goal from Mehlig, and a superb brace from Emmett had kept them in the game. A hot day saw UBLC rotate their squad well, and in particular, Forshaw and Gwlnd put in big shifts in the heart of midfield.

MARCHANT'S TOUCH OF MAGIC NICKS 3 POINTS FOR UBLC
UBLC FC Seniors 1 v 0 Two Astons and a Villa FC
UBLC maintained their impressive defensive record of conceding just a single goal so far in 2014. With the solidity of Nagli and Brooks at the heart of defence and Condie and Max as full backs, UBLC were able to play with freedom and the retention of the ball was of a high quality in this match. Largely helped by the late loan deal of Jocelino, UBLC played some free flowing football with wide men Lawson and Lyman enjoying exploiting the flanks. The goal almost came from another loanee, when Matt thundered one against the bar from inside the box, but UBLC hasn't really tested the TAVFC keeper. The second half brought the game to life a bit more with numerous chances being created by UBLC. Mehlig volleyed narrowly over after a superb flowing move down the right with Max, Lyman and Joc produced a great ball into the box. UBLC pressed well and Marchant controlled the midfield, usually alone, breaking up any TAVFC passages of play. It was then Marchant who found the deciding goal after a through ball from Joc touched on by Mehlig into the path of the on-running midfielder who neatly dinked the ball over the on rushing keeper into the far corner of the goal. Chances kept coming and as the game closed UBLC were able to keep the ball excellently, and with the defence untroubled by any opposition attacks UBLC countered well and camped in their opponents half to see the game out. UBLC extended their unbeaten run to back before Christmas with this victory and look to finish the season strongly. With the whole squad fairly depleted today, UBLC were fortunate to put out two sides and that's a credit to the boys. Man of the match, Sam Marchant, who in the words of Manager Southall "put in a top shift."

UBLC held by BOB
UBLC FC Seniors 1 v 1 AFC BOB
1 down to a scrappy goal that almost wasn't. Moore equalised- good header from Lawson's corner. Got away with an average display, a game of few chances and deserved a point. UBLC struggled to maintain their quality of possession and quick tempo from last week's performance. Nagli and Brooks solid at the heart of defence again, m.o.m duo. Kept BOB quiet. A good point on reflection and UBLC will be hoping to up their game next week as they look to finish the season strongly.

Bradford Leads UBLC Charge
UBLC FC Seniors 3 v 0 Warriors (Orbital)
UBLC recorded the double over league leaders Orbital with a truly fantastic display following weeks of postponements. UBLC looked as though they’d be training week in week out (see it pays off) as they were stronger, quicker and more determined than their fierce opposition.
With notable absentees in the defence, Josh Nagli and Joe Brooks formed an unbreakable pairing at the heart of UBLC’s defence. With birthday boy Sir DI Ross Condie keeping the dangerous winger quiet all game, or in his own words having him in his back pocket, and Evans (will he get whattsapp) battling well with Token, UBLC were looking tough to break down. This provided the foundation for UBLC to press their opponents and compete high up the pitch. Debutant Todd Moore joined Sam Marchant and Luke Bradford in an effective midfield trio where the game was largely won by UBLC.
The breakthrough came after good work down the left from Gareth Downs putting in superb ball for Mehlig who was equally met by the centre half before the ball fell to Bradford who shimmied the defender and drilled the ball home. UBLC had to withstand pressure, largely from corners but were well organised with ‘keeper (and the imminent successor of the Pope/Mehlig regime) Matt Williams commanding his area, punching clear some dangerous balls in. UBLC broke away from defending a corner, resulting in Moore driving one into the corner of the net only for the half time whistle to have been blown prior to the truly majestic counter attack.
Wise words from what you may call the ever-closer to veteran stage pair of Southall and Yorke, both struggling for fitness in their senior years, at half-time rejuvenated UBLC who went into the second half with an even greater tempo about their game. UBLC pressed Orbital midfield, forcing Big Softie and Ribery to play rushed passes and allowing Marchant and Moore to cash in on loose balls and free the UBLC attack once more. Lyman, coming of retirement Paul Scholes style, gave UBLC width and pace down the right, and with Downs doing the same on the left UBLC were able to stretch their opponents.
Bradford then came up with the moment of the match catching the ‘keeper off his line and pinging one into the roof of the net from 25 yards to put UBLC 2 up and cruising. This was followed by an incredibly painful, yet hilarious event, in which Marchant took a shot to the nether regions from all but a yard. As he limped off, with scarce sympathy from the other 21 players on the field, UBLC rejigged and stuck Lawson into his favoured central midfield role. They coped well with Moore taking charge of the midfield and following this short series of notable events came the inevitable 5 minute argument over a decision in which Lyman had burst through, pulled the ball back for Mehlig to slot home from 6 yards out. OFFSIDE the call, once the ball entered the goal – who was offside you ask? Lyman, apparently, back where he picked the ball up just inside his opponent’s half. Hmm. The dispute ran on. And on. But no consensus was reached. Thankfully, minutes later Lyman himself curled one into the top corner from the edge of the box; a sublime finish to put UBLC 3 up and put the game to bed. Moore and Downs both found themselves in on goal, but that infamous Downs bobble (the grass Downs, not Gareth) got the better of them. UBLC saw the game out well with all the players working tirelessly to the end. Fitness certainly proving to aid their efforts.
A momentous result pushing UBLC up the table again and grabbing the well-eyed scalp of a double over Orbital who still remain in pole position to again claim the intramural league title this year. This result should be dedicated to Condie, as he turns the big One-Nine today, however for the two goals and solid display in midfield, man of the match: Bradford
