Riley sat on the front step of the Anderson household by the mailbox with their legs crossed, their elbow resting on one knee, and their chin in their hand. When Meg had sent Riley the tracking number for their latest care package Riley had kept their eyes on it almost constantly. They were missing something they couldn't quite name like crazy.

It was supposed to arrive today. Said it was even out for delivery! Just... Where was it?

The Southern Isles neighborhood was surprisingly quiet, leaving an odd feeling in Riley's gut as they kept their eyes peeled for the postal worker. When they spotted a face they didn't recognize they got excited (new postal worker maybe?!) before the embarrassment of realizing they were intensely staring at someone who was certainly not a new postal worker set in.

"Uh... Howdy-doody neighborino?" Riley called with a grimace, their face reddening by the second.

Riley was on their way for some pick-me-up Ice Queen. Sure, it was still cold out and sure they weren't making the same level of tips at Hatter's that they used to but they were willing to splurge a little on some Tiger Tail ice cream. Riley was pretty sure that orange and licorice ice cream was probably gonna be terrible but they also absolutely needed to try it.

They were in the middle of daydreaming about their future treat that they didn't even see the newcomer until they went toppling over the busted suitcase. Their reflexes thankfully kicked in, allowing Riley to tuck-and-roll into their tumble and try to at least land looking like a pro.

"Shit! Damn, man, you okay?" Riley blurted out as they tried to save face. "Here, uh.. Uff dah, nothing worse than busted luggage, eh? Lemme help.."

Just a little bit further... Giulia had her phone in one hand, Google Maps directing her to the Hauntley Inn. Her backpack felt like a tonne weight, and her comically large suitcase was not having a very fun time on the cobblestones. But she was almost there! She could make it if she just... kept... going...

Bang! One wheel caught a cobble and the whole thing toppled over, the suitcase thudding against the ground. The impact caused the zip to burst so that the top flew open, flinging sandals and t-shirts and unmentionables all across the quaint English street.

"Santo Peccorino!" She cried, immediately trying to grab as many things as she could. "Scusa, sorry, let me just--"

Character Name: Mirai "Riley" Anderson Title/Occupation: Visiting Noble (Lory) from Arcadia's High Court Magick Status: Celestial Elf (Out) Biography: Mortal politics were so amusing to the Fae and the Seelie Courts were no different in that regard. It seemed so trivial, especially for lives that only burned so long, but Mirai was fascinated nonetheless. They had heard of this mortal occasion called the "Season" and decided that they wanted to witness it for themselves. Their family waved their hands at their child's silly desires, assuming the adolescent elf would eventually tire themselves out of this fixation on mortals. The youths tended toward the ridiculous, after all, and Zaniah was a patient mother. Taking on the human name "Riley Anderson" (they'd read up on mortal naming conventions), Mirai also took an entourage of servants to England with them. They weren't bothering to hide either their Magick Status or their social one but the name they wanted to test out. While they would not partake in the season themselves they were excited to watch and learn from those around them. Now just to wait for the games to begin!

I'm sure I'm not the first person to realise this, but remember Inside Out? Everyone's emotions were the same gender as themselves EXCEPT for Riley, who had BOTH male and female emotions. Genderfluid Riley? Bigender Riley? Idk but this is really fucking cool.

That scene in Inside Out at the dinner table where Anger is in charge is SO GREAT. Stepping back and looking at the metaphor of this movie, Riley having just moved against her will because of her Dad's job is probably feeling genuine anger towards him for maybe the first time in her life. And he dad is frustrated and trying hard to keep it together as much as Riley and his wife are. Everyone is struggling, but this is likely the first instance of Riley's Anger coming up against her father's, which is just beautifully depicted in this scene. Especially because her dad wasn't paying attention to the prior conversation? So he doesn't actually know that something is genuinely wrong and that Riley was already showing signs of being upset.
