Piece of shopping advice for anyone in a cosmopolitan area who's on a budget: stock up on your spices and staples (beans and rice) at indian/halal/hispanic/asian/African markets. In general they'll be cheaper and in MUCH larger volumes, stocking up on basic curry spices, dried chickpeas or lentils, and a jar of ginger garlic paste will keep you eating well for a while
