The Merchants

In the depths of a strange basement exists a society of monsters. Some have taken it upon themselves to venture deeper into the depths, searching for valuables amongst the miscellaneous items that materialize in the dark. They provide this little society with raw materials, tools, and trinkets for a fee, though they tend to be flexible on payment methods if you have something that catches their eye.

Three such companies exist, all competing with each other for business and resources. One such company is that lead by Mysan, a mysterious kuroko of unknown origins. As the company grew, so too did the need for aid. The innovator Mechan (Merchant) guided the company into the digital age, and the apprentice Maskun (Mask) has been sharpening his skills by duking it out in the depths with the other company seekers for resources.

Identity (AKA "Her") is an imaginary girl. When the original author discarded their humanity in order to bear the burden of their crown, this separate spirit was born, safely incubating in the long dream of the Nth Dimension. Thanks to Caido's carelessness, she was awoken from that delusion, waking up in a hollow and decaying body that was quickly crushed under the weight of reality. Since she is not the original body, her form can decay rapidly under stress just like the Others.

She was recently granted a new carapace by one of the Suns. While it appears to be holding steady, no one knows how sturdy it is, and She is not keen on trying to find out.

Your capricious nature makes you unfit to be king! It's time to end this childish reign of terror!

Veterans / folks who kept up with the backstage blog (temporarily down, will come back in a different form) might remember these two. It's actually the first time in years that I've drawn them, and the first time I've drawn them full body. 26 and 6 are something like counterparts to 85 and 64.

To make a long story short, a rival entity to Caido, known as Lady Grief, usurped Caido's rule for a time ages ago. During that period, she used some of the negativity she had siphoned off of Caido's crown to create Others of her own, creating 26 and 6 who are embodiments of jealousy and envy respectively.

Of the two brothers, 26 is most invested in defeating Caido and securing Lady Grief's rule over the Nth Dimension. On the other hand, 6 has become apathetic towards this goal, and is now a begrudging participant in this cyclic war over multiple timelines and multiple time loops.

Beyond that, their relationship with their counterparts is also different. 26 loathes 85 almost as much as he does Caido, obsessing over his counterpart and seeking his defeat, but only if it can be brought about by his hand. 6 on the other hand is mostly apathetic towards 64, finding his existence annoying when he remembers 64 exists at all.

Fun little side note is that those badges have a crossed out third eye as their emblem. A third eye (paired with four arms) is a symbol of divinity. In this case, a crossed out third eye is basically shorthand for opposing Caido's rule.

Can a dormant universe ever be brought back to life and the same as it was before, or is it dead for good?

It all depends on how the universe became dormant in the first place.

A universe that becomes dormant simply because it is set aside for a time or forgotten about can be revived perfectly fine. Consider it a simple stasis.

A universe that becomes dormant because it became unstable can be restored to the way it once was with some considerable effort, but sometimes the decay is far too great, and the only option is to start over.

During the early years of the Nth dimension, a great conflict arose between the ruling entities. After a long series of events, 64 decided to rebel and ended up causing the destabilization of the First Universe. Furious, Caido sought to destroy 64 to put an end to his destruction. 85 confronted Caido, wanting to protect his younger brother, ultimately dismembering him during the fight.

Having stubbornly defied death before, Caido once again refused to die, obtaining a more monstrous form as a result. While he did gain his third eye and second pair of arms here, the plant growing out of his head would come at a later date.

I got into VTubers for a bit a while back, and thought the idea of a community mascot was fun, so I wanted to make something similar for my blog. They're called Observers and are actually leftover bodies created by 85 ages ago that gained sentience and independence after being left alone for long enough. Now they're just silly little guys who mill about and look at things...who may or may not also have reality bending powers.

Who are some of the new faces we see in the anniversary art piece?

Thank you! Not sure how 'new' is new by your definition, but I'll go through what I'd consider the 'new era' additions to the family.

Somn Machine - A strange television set that emerged from Caido's old head (a solid white cube that was in stasis up until recently.) She was on track to be a malevolent being, but 64 reformed her...and she's become akin to the family dog. Loves cake! (gets sick like the rest of the family from eating it though...)

Her - An empty husk awoken from the delusion of the Nth Dimension. She technically shouldn't exist at all. A wreck of a girl whose hobbies include staying inside and laying on the floor.

She is a counterpart to Caido, both being the 'bodies' of the original author. By this, she is technically 64 and 85's mother.

??? - The synthetic heart born inside of Caido after his original human one rotted and became the Others. Embodying the immortal spirit of the original author's hopes and aspirations, it was removed from Caido's body by the Mad King to protect it from the rot eating Caido from the inside out.

This isn't actually his typical form, but She prefers him in this state. She also considers him something of a big brother, establishing him as an uncle of sorts to the Others.

The Ooties - Technically not family members. They are little helpers created by Mysan. They travel in between dimensions or wherever Mysan goes to help him complete tasks or do his bidding. They're not very powerful, so they can be considered neutral entities at worst.

The one eating the cake is Zwei...sort of the odd one out amongst the Ooties.

A better look at King Cackle's redesign! This self-proclaimed King of Halloween loves nothing more than tricks and treats! He's quickly built up his own army of living vegetables, terrorizing the people of Violet Village from the depths of his territory in the neighboring woods, thus called Cackle Woods. He's one of the many foes you'll face in Boundless: The Lost Scripts!
