Calling All Ad-Free Subscribers
if you hate the new dashboard layout and find it unusable, and/or hate Tumblr Live and want it gone forever
CANCEL YOUR AD-FREE SUBSCRIPTION RIGHT NOW
and send Tumblr Support a POLITE message telling them you have done so and why.
The ONLY chance of getting Tumblr execs to pay attention to existing user feedback rather than whatever the marketing department is telling them about new users, is to hit them in the wallet.
You'll still get the remaining time on your subscription before they start shoving ads down your throat, and if they haven't fixed shit by then, there's always adblockers.
This is the wording I used:
Hi Support, I have just canceled my ad-free subscription due to the unusuable dashboard layout and the inability to permanently disable/remove Tumblr Live. In addition, I will no longer purchase merchandise or gifts. I am not willing to give money to a company which has made clear that it does not care about or listen to its userbase, especially the loyal ones who've been around for a decade or more. If Tumblr reverts the layout changes or otherwise makes the dashboard usable again, AND provides the ability to permanently disable Tumblr Live (both at no cost to users), I will reconsider my decision.
Tumblr has made clear they only care about money. Let's speak their language.

What??? Why can’t I keep what I’ve got and not have to pay more for extras I won’t use? I don’t want to blaze anything! I don’t go over the limits for posting, queuing or liking! I bought Ad-Free because I wanted to get rid of the ads and support a website I liked using. Now I have to go back to seeing ads and stop my support! This isn’t what I want at all!
@support @staff this is a really, really, really bad idea!!! Please walk it back or you will lose this subscriber. Just let me keep the plan I have! Don’t try to gouge more money out of me for the same service (I will not use the extras!) or you will not get any more money from me at all.

Tumblr premium looks so cursed, but there weren’t any real surprises until……
Tumblr media
I didn’t even KNOW there was ever a daily like limit? Tumblr if you further restrict likes and posts to force people on to premium i swear to fucking god

Tumblr asking for a subscription is EXACTLY why we didn’t want yahoo to purchase it in the first place.
Because they can’t manage products and we knew it would go this way.
Eventually, everything goes this direction. Want to have a voice? Pay for it.
Those who can’t work this into their budget? Well, we didn’t want to hear from you anyway.

You guys that write here are just so dang creative and I love it! None of this following post is meant to be maliciously critical. I believe y'all want to grow as writers. I just want to help a little.
Something I've noticed from Tumblr writers - repetitive writing phrases.
1. The phrase "due to" is in nearly everything I've read. I read it at least once a day. I'm guilty of it to. However, there are ways to change it up.
A) No shame in the word "because." IMO "because of" is also a more natural sounding phrase, anyway.
Example:
"Sarah had trust issues due to her last boyfriend cheating on her."
Into
"Sarah had trust issues because the last boyfriend cheated on her."
B) Periods. End your sentence at your effect and then start a new sentence for the cause. This is my favorite way to avoid "due to."
Example:
"Sarah had trust issues due to her last boyfriend cheating on her."
Into
"Sarah had trust issues. Her last boyfriend cheated on her."
Extra note - by doing this it can allow for a more natural segway into a deeper explanation.
2. "Within seconds." I used to do this one A LOT.
Some options:
• In seconds
• Seconds later
• Instantly
• At once
• Suddenly
• A moment later
I hope this helps you expand your writing!💖

Your First Draft The “Word Puke” Stage
Don’t write anything more than plot. If you have an idea of a character, the most important thing is to just get it down. Don’t worry about errors. Don’t worry if it doesn’t make sense. The worse your first draft is, the better….

writing tip #750:
never, ever use the e-word in your writing. does your character have green e***? no. they have verdant orbs,  leafy pools, bright emerald fields resting on their face

2. Write out the alphabet and numbers in your style, using a black marker (felt pen). This is mine:
