HARRIS SCARFE MONDAY LADIES COMPETITION
Well another successful Ladies Comp has now been competed with the finals matches played today in perfect sunshine.
In Division 1 Kerri Cassidy, Pam Germyn and Mel Doyle played Vicki Dunn, Pat Callahan and Kate Rejc. Kerri, Pam and Mel won 4 sets to 2, 31 games to 19. In Division 2 Lara Bennett, Cindy McKenzie and Pauline Proctor played Beryl Wright, Jenny Rutherford and Melissa Charles. Lara, Cindy and Pauline were on fire and won all of their sets finishing with a 6 love result, but it was a closer match than appears with the games score 37 to 25. Finals jitters can certainly influence the outcome of a match on any given day.
The selectors chose Kate Rejc In division one and Beryl Wright in division two to be awarded prizes for being the best and fairest players in their group.
A delicious lunch was shared by all before the presentations were made of some wonderful kitchen homewares donated by our sponsor as prizes. Due to a miscommunication our very generous and loyal sponsor Harris Scarfe Ulladulla more than compensated for not having our gift vouchers ready by providing a fantastic range of high quality kitchen homewares packages and electrical products which the winners and runners up got to choose from. Thank you so much to the Store Manager Tom and assistant Teagan Ardler for coming to the rescue at the last minute. We were all gobsmacked by your generosity.
It was great that Julie Forster was able to join us to watch the tennis and stay for lunch. We hope to see your health improving all the time Julie.
Entries are still open for next comp commencing on 24 July. While Mary Lou is away Jan Shalhoub will be taking names and enquiries. Phone 4455 3574 or 0414 923 068.

Bakers Delight Saturday Morning Juniors Competition.
The finals of the winter competition were played last week between division one’s Alivia Brown, Tyrone Matthews, Thomas Hatcher-Nee and Reece Manasseh against Jack Rejc, Sean Donald, Jack Gumley and Candice Gumley. Division two teams were Harrison Graham, Darcy Kneeshaw and Mia Clough against Gabriel Anderson, Adam McCann and Marcus Pepperell. In two very close and exciting finals, which both came down to the last set, the winners of division 1 were Alivia, Tyrone, Thomas and Reece by just 6 games after playing 8 sets. Gabriel, Adam and Marcus won division 2 (with 3 tied sets out of 6) by only 2 games – 22 to 20. Congratulations to all players for great sportsmanship and a very high standard of tennis. A new junior competition and Hotshots will commence again on April 29. Make sure you get your name down ASAP. New players welcome.

Seniors Tournament the Best Yet.
The Ulladulla Tennis Centre in Warden Street was buzzing on the weekend of February 17, 18 and 19 when players from all around NSW, ACT, Victoria and further afield competed in the annual BIG4 Bungalow Park Burrill Lake Seniors Tennis Tournament under the control of tournament director Mary Lou Barclay. President of Tennis NSW Seniors Mick Bruton was the lucky winner of a week’s accommodation for 6 people generously donated by Catherine and Quentin at Bungalow Park on Burrill Lake. Our most popular event ever saw 220 players enjoying singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles events in Ulladulla and Milton. In a very competitive but also social atmosphere teams were grouped according to their age or ability and played a round robin format with a cash prize for the winners and runners up in each group. The high standard of players included the current world number one ITF ranked doubles lady in the over 65 age group Adrienne Avis-Main as well as ex-local Helen Worland who is currently 22 in the world seniors doubles ranking. They made a formidable pair on the court. Current and past presidents, secretary and treasurer of tennis Seniors NSW also attended as well as Councillor Patricia White and Deputy Mayor Mark Kitchener. Thank you in no small measure to Tournament Director Mary Lou Barclay and her assistant Val Crook and to hard-working Canteen managers Jennie Rutherford and Pauline Proctor who only went home to sleep during the three days.
Many of the entrants have represented Australia at an international level where they have been successful in becoming world champions including ladies number 1 ranked doubles player in the 65 plus age group Adrienne Avis-Main. Cheering her on was her new husband Lorne Main who at 86 years of age is Canada’s and the world’s most successful seniors tennis player winning over 40 titles on the seniors circuit in the past 30 years. While the competition is targeted at visitors, a number of Ulladulla Tennis Club players also participated with many being successful, especially our coach Kevin Murphy who won 2 events - Men’s Singles and Men’s 75 years Combined Age Doubles with David Ridley. Other locals who did well are: Deb Loves and Kerri Cassidy who won the 75/110 Ladies Combined Age Doubles; Geoff Cook and partner, Belinda Arthur from Wollongong, won the 95/120 Combined Age Mixed Doubles. Paul Woodcock with his partner Elaine Brockett won the 45/65 Age Mixed Doubles. Lee Dickson and Mike Lynn won the 50/55 Age Mixed Doubles.
The Saturday night barbecue for competitors and volunteers was a huge success with President Keith Bonser advising all the visitors that “If you want to have a great tennis club you need a dedicated and hard-working committee, a great coach and generous sponsors and we are very fortunate to have all three.” Mary Lou also said “I wish to give a special thank you to the Milton-Ulladulla District Tennis Association committee members and a number of volunteers who helped tirelessly over the three days working in the canteen, cooking the barbeque, serving liquid refreshments, taking photos and doing the heavy lifting and numerous other jobs.” Congratulations to all involved.
Next year we will celebrate our 20th anniversary and it can only get better.

Seniors Tournament 2017
Annual Seniors Tennis Tournament February 17 – 19.
The Ulladulla Tennis Centre in Warden Street will come alive on the weekend of February 17, 18 and 19 when players from all around NSW, ACT, Victoria and further afield converge on the Ulladulla district for the annual BIG4 Bungalow Park Burrill Lake Seniors Tennis Tournament. More than 200 players plus their entourages will be drawn to the area with many staying on for a holiday after the competition. Now in its 19th year the event first started when the Shoalhaven Council introduced the Ulladulla Summer Games, which all local sporting groups were involved in with the purpose to bring tourism to the area outside of the peak holiday period. With a lack of funding, the games disappeared but the Milton Ulladulla Tennis Association committee, especially Val Crook, who ran the event every year until 2016, has ensured that this popular and successful tennis tournament has continued. While it is a serious tournament with ranking points at stake, tournament director Mary Lou Barclay said “The appeal lies in the friendships, camaraderie and good times that the competition will bring.” On Saturday night the Club will host a barbecue for competitors and volunteers for everyone to get together and socialise off the courts. Entrant’s ages range from 36 to 86 years and in the past some have represented Australia at an international level where they have been successful in becoming world champions. This year some of Australia’s top senior tennis players including Heather McKay, Helen Worland, Michael Pyne and Russell Rumery will make an appearance at the tournament. And we are excited to have World Over 65 Ladies Singles Winner, Adrienne Avis and her partner Julie Pratt as World Over 65 Ladies Doubles winners. While the competition is targeted at visitors, a number of Ulladulla Tennis Club players will also participate in the competition. Local players include Herb Chee, Kerri Cassidy, Lee Dickson, Lara Bennett, Deb Loves, Paul Woodcock, Jeff Cook, Peter Gumley, Phil Bryant and David Charles. Some of our local players, who have participated for many years, partner some of our visitors who have also been visiting our area over a long period. We are also most fortunate that a few locals will be stepping in to help visitors fill their teams. Residents are invited to come along to the tennis complex over the weekend of 17 – 19 February to witness some great tennis being played and to see the outstanding facility we have in Ulladulla. Entry to the complex is free and there are many viewing areas throughout with first class catering services. The complex is located at the corner of Green & Warden Streets (behind the Leisure Centre).

South Pacific Open A Great Success
Milton Ulladulla District Tennis Association hosted 112 players plus their families and friends on the last weekend of October for the South Pacific Open, a national gold level ranking tournament with generous prize money.
This was a huge success with all participants enjoying the hospitality and atmosphere at the Ulladulla tennis centre, especially the popular and unique “Dash for Cash” on Saturday night which featured entrants in fancy dress. A huge thank you to Karen, Peter and Tony from South Coast Business and Financial Solutions for sponsoring this event.
Although the majority of participants were from outside the area, six local juniors tried their luck in the draw and gained valuable experience. Anton Willett won the final of the consolation matches for the 18 years and under event which for a 14 year old is a massive achievement.
The club and the town were the big winners over the weekend but the individuals who scooped the prize pool were:
Men’s singles: Jonathon Cooper from La Perouse, a lovely player who was once ranked 32 in Australia.
Ladies’ singles: Dael Mckenna from Oak Flats who was the 2nd highest ranked lady in the tournament.
Men’s doubles: Aitor Lasa from Kogarah and Nicholas Turnham from Sydney.
Ladies’ doubles: Bojana Marinkov from Sydney and Grace Schumacher from Bathurst.
Mixed doubles: Rebecca Jones ranked 95 in Australia and Nicholas Turnham, both from Sydney.
