With the bite in Uma’s tone and the tenseness of her shoulders, Harry couldn’t help but be on high alert, following her line of sight to a figure he only vaguely recognized. A regular patron of the chip shop, but not one of Uma’s crew. But certainly someone who wouldn’t hesitate to shoot nasty looks at his captain, or the rest of his mates. Sure, he wasn’t necessarily under Uma’s rule like the rest of them, but that didn’t mean he had to go and disrespect her.
Especially when Uma could still squash him like a bug.
“Ah could hook ‘im,” Harry offered, making sure to say it plenty loud enough for the insubordinate codfish to hear. He looked to his brandished hook, glistening and newly polished even in the cheap lights of the shop. “Solve th’ probl’m real quick like.”
❝ now, now harry. what kind of captain would i be if i let you dirty that pretty SHINY hook of yours on someone that’s not even worth it ? ❞ the way she nearly SNARLS those words towards the person in question comes with a smile, one that’s dark enough to make blood run cold && fear settle. uma is not the person to challenge, && people know that. even without harry at her side, she is a force to be reckoned with. but WITH him ? with him, she is unstoppable. she is a powerful STORM that will rip down everything in it’s path.
elbow settles upon the table, chin pillowing within her palm to look at her first mate. the smile that he gets is something much more kind, more fond, more..―― ❝ as much as i love how PROTECTIVE you are, it’s not worth it. he’ll learn. we’ll MAKE him. ❞

expanding on THIS headcanon i posted.
particularly the bit about ‘refusing to acknowledge her powers’ being offensive to a sea witch ―― this explains a lot about uma. she is bitter, angry && annoyed when people think of her as less than what she is. she might not understand why, but it is just in her nature. it’s something that appears && rises like an unseen tide to consume her.
another thing that causes this rise // tidal wave of anger, is the nickname ‘shrimpy’. to my uma especially, it can evoke a violent reaction ; even against someone she trusts implicitly. it belittles her, it tells her she’s the lowest of the low && sits nowhere near a place of power on the food chain. it calls to something in her nature to be outraged that someone would dare think of her in such a way.

to fit with the fandomless switch, i will be toying much more with the mythological versions of sea witches for uma. i will expand on this in more headcanons later on, but for now the general basis ( ripped from wiki ) is below.
Traditionally, sea witches were witches who appeared among sailors or others involved in the seafaring trade. A sea witch may be presented as a magical or fairy creature such as a mermaid or selkie, or as an ordinary human who uses magic to influence the sea. Their powers ranged from control over the winds and weather or the ability to influence the catches of fisherman, to complete power over the sea, the tides, and the moon. Offending a sea witch by such means as refusing to pay her for her services, insulting her looks, or refusing to acknowledge her powers could end in disaster, as the sea witch might choose to destroy an entire ship.
In addition to their powers over water, sea witches were said to control the wind and weather. A common feature of many tales was a rope tied into three knots, which witches often sold to sailors to aid them on a voyage. Pulling the first knot could yield a gentle, southeasterly wind, while pulling two could generate a strong northerly wind, but the third knot would unleash a hurricane. In some versions of sea witch lore, the witch had the power to call up treasures lost in shipwrecks. In some stories a grieving widow begs the sea witch to bring to shore the body of a drowned husband, child, or sweetheart, so that it could be given a proper burial; in some versions this requires casting a coin or a ring into the sea as the witch's payment.
