Ooooh, okay, I'll ramble about Elyse!!!

I have many AUs for her, I've written little things about them here and there but haven't actually written them aside from a little bit here and there.

The main ones are:

Her parents never left Winterhold to be together

She isn't Dragonborn, becomes a teacher instead

She ends up as a political prisoner in Windhelm during the Skyrim Civil War

I'll put details about each under the read more :)

This is a LONG post 😅

(But I will say that every single AU, she finds a way to kiss that Jarl of Whiterun 😂)

In the AU where her parents don't leave Winterhold, Ingja and Edwyn find a way to keep their relationship on the down-low - at least until Ingja falls pregnant with Elyse. Ingja's father, aka the Jarl of Winterhold at the time, says that unless Ingja gave up Elyse to Honorhall, she will be disowned and disinherited, but the man falls in love with his granddaughter from day one and dotes over Elyse to no end. Korir and his mother (Ingja's stepmother) were not happy about this, resulting in a bit of a family fallout, and in the end they leave Winterhold. Korir does come back when the Jarl dies though, thinking he has a chance to get his foot in the door as Jarl, but gets pissy about it when he learns Ingja is Jarl with Elyse as her heir, and lingers around Winterhold after that trying to rally some of the people into turning against them. Also by this point, Edwyn is fully in the picture, able to leave the College without the risk of being arrested for the bs crime of being a mage, with his relationship with Ingja being a known and accepted thing.

Elyse takes after her mother much more in this AU, though does still do some dabbling in magic. She is also very adamantly pro-repairing the relationship with the College, and also ends up a close childhood friend with both Torygg and Elisif.

Unfortunately, no matter the AU, Ingja gets sick and dies - leaving Elyse as Jarl at about the age of 18, as she stepped down to focus on her health. At a similar time, Torygg ends up Jarl in Solitude, and both he and Elyse begin discussions about setting aside funds to rebuild Winterhold, albeit further inland, to be implemented once he became High King as he was almost guaranteed the position.

Moot happens, Torygg becomes High King, and obviously Ulfric isn't happy about the situation in Skyrim. Nor is Korir. So Korir goes to Ulfric after Torygg dies, says "get me on Winterhold's throne over my idiot niece, and you can have the money which Torygg promised to find your war and another ally in Skyrim". So without directly throwing his name behind it (though Elyse knows when Korir tells her as such), Ulfric helps Korir hold a coup, and Elyse and her father get overwhelmed, captured, and left to rot in The Chill, whilst Korir comes up with a tragic sob story for the other Jarls about Elyse and Edwyn getting attacked and dying after attempting to journey out of the city.

He never anticipated them escaping, or Elyse making her way to the closest hold where the Jarl isn't one of Ulfric's allies - Whiterun.

And she and Balgruuf make out sloppy style. The end.

Balgruuf takes Elyse and Edwyn in as refugees, and...... That's about all I've figured out for this AU 😅. I think she'll still be Dragonborn - maybe I'll get her to hold the peace treaty in High Hrothgar and make Ulfric sweat when he realises that Korir didn't remove her completely from the picture.

Next is the 'she isn't Dragonborn AU. It basically is what it says on the tin. She does still end up in Helgen, she eventually ends up in Whiterun, and even helps with killing that first dragon, just some other poor soul absorbs the dragon soul.

In this AU, she tries to join the College and reconnect with Korir, but realises that the College as it was was dangerous, and that Korir despised her - so she returns to Whiterun. She does some odd jobs around the hold, and eventually makes a name for herself and earns enough money to buy Breezehome.

She then adopts Lucia, and learns that she struggles with reading and writing, so helps her with that. Then Lucia brags to her friends that her mama is smart and teaching her things, which then reaches her friends' parents... And starting with Saffir and Amren asking if she could help with teaching Braith, it starts to pick up. Eventually, she's teaching quite a few of Whiterun's children, and Breezehome was not big enough for that.

So she goes to Balgruuf with a proposal - opening a school. He is agreeable to the idea, thinking that perhaps it would be a good idea for his children to have a more suitable education, so plans get set in motion, and eventually she is able to teach the children in a more suitable setting. She manages to get some help, with Jon Battle-Born teaching some music and literature, and a few other people with other subjects.

Balgruuf is quite impressed by the way in which the school runs, and compliments Elyse on her ability to manage it. It may or may not result in the two of them having some private... meetings... about progress at the school. Unfortunately, Frothar witnesses some of this, and within days, the entirety of Whiterun knows they were smooching 😂

Then there's the political prisoner AU. It's.... Pretty dark. It essentially is an alternative end to chapter 2 (I think) of The Perfect Storm, and Elyse is stopped from escaping Windhelm via the docks and is taken back to Ulfric. She is kept locked up, gagged, and under the effects of a magicka poison at most times, and she doesn't realise that Ulfric is using her presence in Windhelm to persuade Balgruuf to side with him in the Civil War.

As soon as Balgruuf gets worn down by the mithering from both sides, he concedes defeat and falls for Ulfric's lies and joins the Stormcloaks, believing that Elyse is willingly staying there as a major factor in that decision. And when Ulfric learns that, he lets Elyse know, and tells her that Balgruuf was planning to make it official in person. And if she wanted to see him, and for him not to end up in prison himself with someone of Ulfric's choosing on Whiterun's throne instead, she had to cooperate with him.

And by cooperate, he meant submit to his initial demands of marrying him. Not wanting Balgruuf to be put in harm's way, she agrees, and is released from prison, is married to him, and is kept under constant watch by guards whilst being permitted free reign of the palace but was not allowed to leave. Her only moments of privacy were at night, when she was allowed in a room of her own (she told Ulfric that she at least wanted a room of her own, and he conceded that to her after an argument which ended with him hurting her in frustration and her screeching at him to leave her alone and to never touch her again). She is at her absolute lowest at this point, and the only thing keeping her alive is fearing what could happen to Balgruuf if she were to die. The even worse thing is, is that she realises her feelings for him much sooner in this AU than in any other.

During her free reign of the palace, she notices subtle clues left around to warn her of the consequences of not playing along - though the least subtle of these were plans left out regarding an attack on Whiterun.

When Balgruuf finally visits, she manages to shake off her guards for a time and manages to get Balgruuf alone with her so that she could tell him the truth of the situation. He is horrified, but comforts her as she sobs in his arms. Then one thing leads to another, and they both confess their feelings and sleep together in those few stolen moments before they had to return to the business at hand, with Balgruuf now scheming on a way to defect to the Empire, and Elyse left to Ulfric's whims, albeit with more hope than previously.

Thankfully, Elyse is handed an opportunity on a golden platter - a dragon attack elsewhere in Eastmarch. Ulfric doesn't want her to go, at least until she tells him that people would turn against him when people die because of the dragon and they learn that he kept her caged up in his palace. So he allows her to leave to handle it, with Galmar watching over her, but the second the dragon died, she made a run for it. The Whirlwind Sprint shout came in handy when it came to getting away from the angry Nord chasing her.

She knew that Whiterun would be the first place Ulfric would look, so instead, she goes to High Hrothgar, and has a single letter sent whilst on her way there, addressed to Balgruuf - 'I'm safe, don't look for me.' She doesn't sign it, but trusts that Balgruuf knows it is her.

Not long after sheltering with the Greybeards, she learns that she was pregnant, and knows that it is Balgruuf's child because she never slept with Ulfric in spite of being married to him.

She leaves High Hrothgar for the first time in ages after Aina is born and able to walk. She's about three years old. By this time, the war in Skyrim has waged on but the Stormcloaks have been backed into a corner. Balgruuf had been able to use what he had learned as one of Ulfric's supposed allies to pass info on to the Empire, earning himself a pardon and the ability to remain as Whiterun's Jarl. He is stunned when he sees Elyse and a little blonde girl clinging to her leg. When he asks where she has been, where did the child come from, where were her parents, Elyse picks her up, and walks over to Balgruuf as tears fall down her face. She introduces Aina, before explaining that she would have let him know sooner if not for fearing that Ulfric could find her or do harm to any of them, and that she was his daughter. Balgruuf is stunned, and asks if she was certain, she responds with "do you really think that I slept with Ulfric, let alone let him touch me?". And even though he had only just learned that he had another daughter, Elyse asks for him to look after her, as she had some unfinished business. Balgruuf tries to stop her from leaving, but after repeated back and forth, he instead got a promise that she would be back.

She kept that promise, and once Ulfric fell by her blade and the war was brought to a close, she returned, to make up for lost years.
