swordless
“that’s an apt comparison,” she comments when she hears his voice, having been expecting (perhaps hoping?) that he would approach her. it would be a bit too obvious if she approached him of what she might want from him after their … rather public incident that had happened earlier. there’s no point in denying what she wanted to happen, of course, but she’ll cross that bridge when she comes to it. there’s a sly little smile playing on her lips as she glances up at him finally, not having spared him a glance earlier as she was looking at her phone.
tucking the device away, chaeyeon smiles at the other, the memories of their very recent duel appearing in her mind again and she thinks that he’s pretty on point with the nickname. “is that your new nickname for me?” she asks, purposely acting coy. genuinely unsure if he was referencing the marvel character or the spider—she can never assume who’s into muggle movies and comics when she’s at a magical school, though she thinks that she definitely wants to find out which one he’s talking about, if only to make another friend (?) who knew about the mcu—but she thinks it’s a compliment either way.
well, she’s definitely going to take it as a compliment even if he might mean it otherwise.
she’s quiet as he speaks, a smirk appearing on her lips at his next words. “levi, right?” chaeyeon asks, wanting to confirm that she had the right person, having tried to remember from when attendance had been taken and they had been paired up. “you know what they say,” she says, shrugging innocently like she hadn’t been thinking about the look in his eyes from earlier this entire time. “never judge a book by it’s cover, of course.” if she sounds extra flirty, it may or may not be on purpose.
“think it’s only fitting,” besides, who wouldn’t want to be compared to either a venomous spider and/or a comic book character? exactly. “i mean… considering the way you introduced yourself to me.” they’d skipped a few steps there. didn’t even bother to shake hands, but had gone straight for the part where you get on top of each other. solid introduction, if you asked him. “i’ll admit, i usually don’t get floored that easily with that much eagerness.” it’s obvious that he’s teasing, more flirtatious than he really should be. but it’s playful, especially considering the way he corrects himself with a little too much mock-innocence. “—ahem, force. i meant force.” but it’s the upwards twitch of his mouth that says, no, he doesn’t mean that at all.
ten seconds into this conversation and it’s obvious the tension from earlier is unresolved and still quite there. it’d be easier to ignore it than do… whatever they’re doing, but part of him doesn’t exactly want to. “unless you’d prefer another.” unlike chaeyeon, there’s absolutely nothing coy about levi and it’s obvious. damn, what’d happened to the whole ‘don’t go there, she’s a freshman’ spiel he’d been on about a few seconds ago? right, right. right. that’s it, he’s not giving her anymore nicknames, because obviously that’s the worst thing he can do. “yeah, it’s levi. chaeyeon, right?” he can keep things casual when he wants to, it’s not that difficult.
“you’ve caught me, i’m definitely the type to check out the backside first.” ha. ha ha. okay, so maybe it’ll be a little difficult, because he’s clearly the type to run his mouth too. that comment could definitely be taken in a different way than he’d meant it, but levi is talking about the cover of a book. rather than bothering to clarify, he steers the conversation into another direction. “so where’d you learn how to duel like that?”

scales: missing in action!
scales doesn’t reply. hmph. she sees how it is — her toad gets a girlfriend, and suddenly he’s too busy for his darling mother. but— he can’t treat her like this! not when her baby is about to have, well, many babies! wait… does this make her a grandmother? at age 23?! awfully bit young, isn’t it? if her little scales is happy though, she supposes she doesn’t have much to complain about.
too lost in her own thoughts, (and maybe because she had been screaming just seconds ago), dotty doesn’t hear the figure approaching her where she’s crouched down on the floor, eyes practically glued to the two toads and their eggs.
but— then she hears them, and it’s a familiar voice. “levi!” she doesn’t get up, though she does turn to look at him, and can’t help but grin excitedly at him. this is levi’s toad? they’re about to be toad grandparents together? oh, that’s exciting, it really is!
“yes,” she eyes the eggs again — wow, there sure are a lot of these! dotty’s not even sure where to begin counting them. just how many grandbabies is she going to end up having? oh, this is almost overwhelming to think about! “oh, levi, there’s so many of them! can you believe our toads are getting along this well? they’re about to be parents!” oh! that gives her a fantastic idea, actually…
turning towards levi again, she now has an excited grin on her face, obviously up to something. “levi. we should have a toad wedding! oh, how romantic would that be?”
when levi embarked on the journey to find his toad, this is not what he’d been expecting to find. for a split second, the idea that this might all be some elaborate scam pops into his head. as though this is some kind of wicked scheme of dotty’s to, uh— get their toads to fall in love, or something. plant a bunch of eggs in a spot kermit frequents and then trap her into a loveless marriage. okay, yeah, he’s not sure what her goal would be here and he’s been (forced into) watching too many of jieun’s trashy muggle television shows...
but when kermit simply acknowledges him with a slow blink (that’s code for ‘yeah, i’m good here’) instead of hopping into his palm, he realizes that’s definitely not the case. besides, as wary as he might be of dotty, he doesn’t think she’s the source of all evil.
or is she?
“uh— wait a damn minute now, dorothea.” he’s decided ‘dotty’ is too cute of a name to be associated with the banshee that’s in front of him. is she trying to steal his toad? “how am i meant to trust this toad with my kermit when he couldn’t even be bothered to wrap it up?” it’s the audacity of it all; if it were up to levi, they’d be separated immediately. it’s not like kermit would care, he’s sure of that. all of this must be some accidental slip.
“i will not stand by idly and allow him to take away kermit’s freedom. she’s an independent woman who cares for no man.” though… she does have a whole bunch of eggs there. “they can share custody of the kids. if she doesn’t eat them before they hatch, of course — i’ve heard some toads do that.”

candy.
finally on a first date with bora, 04/12/20. ( @umhdurum )
“so…” rich looks down at the stack of cheat notes in his lap. this top one says, uh… he squints. admittedly, his hand writing is not the best, which is maybe something he should have thought of before writing these down. “the criminal justice system, huh?” at least, he thinks that’s what that says, but he can’t be too sure. still, he looks back up at bora (who looks absolutely gorgeous tonight) with his usual self-assured grin, the perfect image of complete confidence.
he can’t be sure about any of them, really. because this isn’t shit he knows. these notes? he’d made them with levi, though his roommate had not been particularly excited about helping him out. but, richard had insisted it’s definitely in the bro code to help each other with shit like this, which had eventually convinced the younger. yeah, they ended up with a bunch of notes that are mostly direct quotes from wikipedia (muggles are complete geniuses for that website, by the way), but at least they’ll make him seem smart. right?
right. so what else does this note say again? “i really like how…” he squints down at his lap, trying to interpret his own damn hand writing. “it’s a series of government agencies and institutions? like…” oh, shit, he can’t make out what else this says. well, better wing it based on what he could actually make out.
“like secret government agents. who…” what do they do? he doesn’t know, but — he could guess. “spy on the lower class to figure out if they’re criminals.” yep. nailed it.
it’s not a date. that’s what she’d said when her best friend had given her the stink eye, clearly judging her for her choices as of late. she can’t exactly blame jieun for that one, considering who… she’s not on a date with. richard park, more commonly known as ‘dick’, is not exactly her type. not anymore, at least. so why is she going out to see him? that’s a good question! one she doesn’t exactly have an answer for.
but, and this is bora trying to reason with herself: it doesn’t matter, because this isn’t a date. they’re hanging out, it’s casual — so casual that she hadn’t told anyone else, not even her brother. but eunjae knows that they’re… acquaintances. of sorts. how could they not be? bora’s known him since the age of seven. merlin, has it truly been that long? she remembers the time she’d been so besotted with him; he’d come over for christmas break and she’d been a meek wallflower the entire time, red-faced and nervous. but that was then, back when she had the worst crush on him. this is now, them hanging out after she’s gotten over that phase in her life, especially considering that—
“...spy on the lower class to figure out if they’re criminals.”
—he’s a god damn idiot, oh my god. “richard!” her nostrils flare. ah, there’s that hot wave of anger that she’s become way too familiar with as of late, as it seemingly keeps rearing its head around him. “that’s not what the criminal justice system’s about. i—oh, for fuck’s sake—”
breathe.
a moment later, and she’s sighing, a noisy exhale. “i can’t believe those words came out of your mouth. you could’ve at least done more research when you were writing those cheat sheets.” because of course she’d noticed the fixated way he’d been staring at his lap and drawn her own conclusions (after taking an inconspicuous peek of course). it’d almost been endearing to her earlier, but now she’s clearly over that.

reposingminds·:
this wasn’t her. she wasn’t the one to run off when things became hard. no matter how difficult things got for her or levi, callie was always the one to stand her ground and made sure things worked out in the end. she knew that she was wrong for running away from him because the real callie wouldn’t. the callie the both of them knew would have stayed and pretended that everything was normal or at least tried to prove that his assumption wrong. but when his bitter words reached her ears, it felt as if her heart had frozen over and sunk hard to the pit of her stomach.
she has definitely never felt this kind of ache before.
she didn’t know where she was going, but she can hear the shouts of her name growing louder by the second. it was only a matter of time before levi would catch up to her, she knew that. but she couldn’t find the courage to face him, not after that. she was desperate – desperate to hide, desperate to disappear. all she had to do was get back to her dorm and then–
‘lee kahee!’
callie stopped in her tracks instantly, much too her own dread. her breathing was uneven, shaky, her heart pounding rapidly against her chest from both the sprint she just did and the uncertainty she was feeling. she stood there still, unsure whether she should stay exactly how she was or turn to face him. she knew the correct answer, of course, but actually forcing herself to actually meet his eyes at this moment? she couldn’t do it. she didn’t have the strength to.
‘talk to me.’
slowly, callie reluctantly turned around, her eyes downcast as she stared down at the stony walkway beneath them rather than levi himself. she didn’t even know what to say to him or what he wanted to hear exactly. it was obvious to her how he felt. or rather, it was getting obvious for her to see that he was beginning to see her as someone else; and maybe, she was beginning to see levi as someone else too because this this wasn’t them. and the fact that callie had to keep telling herself, reminding herself of that only helped raise her anxiety, her fear that maybe… maybe, this wouldn’t work.
maybe… there is no them anymore.
that thought alone was enough to shatter her heart into a million pieces.
“i wouldn’t miss our day for the world…” her words came out weak, fragile as if she was trying so hard to just keep herself together – just long enough to get herself through this confrontation. “i was late, but i would never miss it. you know that, levi. I– thought you knew that…”
crossing her arms, she continued to stare down at the road for another moment or two before her eyes slowly began to glance up towards the man in front of her. she felt nervous, hurt, and overwhelmed, and her body language probably showed that as well. but with every word that she spoke, callie felt herself become a little bit more braver – her own ire stirring this pot of emotions and confusion boiling between the two of them. she knew this was going to get out of hand, she can feel it. but knowing the both of them, they’re both going be too much in their feelings to try and stop it.
“are you really that jealous of hyunwoo that you would have to throw out his name every time you’re disappointed with me? is that how we’re going to do things now?”
yeah, maybe today was their downfall.
‘i wouldn’t miss our day for the world… i thought you knew that.’
“i thought i knew that, too. but what do you want me to think?” his tone of voice is harsher than he’s intending it to be, but it’s obvious he’s exasperated. it’s a stark contrast to the way she’s talking to him — so quiet and frail, so unlike her — and that makes him feel even worse. he doesn’t think he’s ever upset callie like this before. not on purpose, of course not, and any time he’d done so unknowingly he’d been quick to gather her into his arms the minute he figured it out, suffocating her with his warmth until she’d relented.
he can’t do that now and it’s driving him crazy.
“we haven’t spent any time together lately. not like before.”
is before gone now? just like that? had they… had they made a mistake when they decided to cross that line, right after they’d promised each other to not let it fuck up their friendship? because that’s the only thing that’s different about them this year, isn’t it? things aren’t supposed to be this complicated. he doesn’t even know why it’s so complicated. why can’t they just stop acting like this. why can’t he just stop acting like he’s—
“i’m not—” jealous. he doesn’t bother to finish that sentence, because it’s absurd. isn’t it? there’s nothing for him to be jealous of. callie is his—his best friend, his best girl.
isn’t she?
“i just— i don’t understand why you have to spend all your time with him when…” that used to be me. us. but he doesn’t know how to tell her this without… without what, exactly? there’s a lump in his throat he has no idea how to get rid of, as if preventing him from telling her how he’s feeling. he should be able to tell her. he’s never not been able to tell her everything. but levi can’t seem to find the words to express himself and he doesn’t understand why. none of this makes sense to him anymore.
what are you feeling? that’s the worst part of it all: he can’t give this a name because he’s never experienced this. it’s anger, most of all. quite a bit of frustration. he’s so damn irritated as of late, every time he has to watch callie show interest in someone that isn’t him. it hadn’t ever bothered him before, not like this. he used to damn well congratulate her for getting laid, for fuck’s sake. tease her about her endeavors the same she did him. and now? now he can’t stand the fucking thought of someone that isn’t him touching her. what the hell’s that supposed to mean?
‘are you really that jealous of hyunwoo…’
is he? is that what this is?
“you’re not dating him again—” as soon as the words leave his mouth, it feels as if a heavy weight settles into his stomach. because fuck. what if she is? no. of course not. she would’ve told him if she was, right? yeah. but that doesn’t stop him from looking at her as though he’s suddenly seeing her in a new (and not exactly positive) light, his tone accusatory despite the fact he has absolutely no reason to be—has absolutely no right to be. “are you?”

hello stranger.
crap. crap!
she knew she was running late, and the anxiety that was eating away at her stomach only made the situation worse. okay, so maybe she shouldn’t have left her dorm later than usual; and maybe, she shouldn’t have been trying to limit her time with levi, of all people, in the first place. but things have been weird between them lately and its grown to the point where no matter how hard either of them try to fix it, it only made things worse. especially when almost every conversation between them always ends up with them arguing over one person in particular: her ex-boyfriend, hyunwoo.
levi never showed interest in whoever callie was seeing before. sure, he made his remarks – but they were always offhanded jokes about how callie could do better or how they better treat her right. he has never shown disdain towards any of her relationships outside of theirs until hyunwoo was mentioned. that was when the under-handed comments began.
‘do you have to dress up for him in front of me?’
’you know he’s just going to hurt you in the end.’
’why does it have to be you? he has other people he can see.’
and honestly? she knew he was right. but it didn’t help the agitation that was seeping into their already tense relationship. callie thought some distance would help improve things; but obviously, she had never been so wrong.
she was ten minutes late when she finally reached the store front, slightly out of breath with her face flushed. she had been running to try and make it on time for their monthly get together, a tradition they kept since the first day they met. she was already feeling apologetic that she was late. after all, callie was never late when it came to levi. however, after seeing him sitting alone in their usual booth waiting on her, it was more than enough for the guilt already inside her to multiply tenfold.
taking a deep breath, she approaches the other carefully, her hands clenching onto the strap of her bag. she offered levi a small, rueful smile hoping that he wasn’t too upset. maybe if she can crack some sort of joke, the tension would ease a little. however, before she could even get a single word in, levi had already beat her to the punch.
if words could knock the wind out of a person, callie should have been ko’d right then and there. and in a sense, she was. her expression changed and if she looks anything like how she felt, she knew she had to leave. immediately.
she couldn’t do this anymore.
she couldn’t talk to levi knowing he’s going to be like this the entire time.
she couldn’t fight with him again, especially when it was supposed to be their day.
so without a word, she turned and walked right back out from the bakery with every intention of leaving levi behind. she could feel her face burning, but whether it was from the anger or the unfairness from the situation that was bubbling inside of her, she couldn’t exactly tell. all she knew was that if she had stayed, she would have probably said something she would end up regretting.
and she would never forgive herself if she did.
the realization he shouldn’t have opened his damn mouth had been there before he’d even said anything — but it didn’t truly hit levi until he saw the abrupt change of her demeanor right in front of him. his throat immediately goes dry, closing up on him. his lips are parted as if to say something, but nothing’s coming out and he’s just staring at her. before he can even think of an apology of some kind, she’s turned on her heels and fled the bakery even quicker than she’d arrived, and that’s when the panic starts to rise up.
had he ruined it— had he just ruined them? all because of his own pettiness?
shit. shit. shit. “callie— callie, wait.” but she’s already left and he’s so fucking stupid. “i’m sorry!” he abandons the booth and leaves his drink behind, hurries after her. “could you just— shit, sorry— callie?” he’d straight up knocked someone onto the ground when they tried to come into the shop just as he ran out, giving them a quick apology but not bothering to help them up because he’s too frantic. too bothered by the fact his best friend, his— his callie won’t even look back at him or give him any kind of response.
he shouldn’t have said that. he’d already been aware of this and yet. part of him had wanted to be an asshole, for his words to hit her like a slap to the face, to make her feel as confused and irritated like he’d been the past few days. weeks. he doesn’t even know when this started anymore. but he’d never seen that expression on her face before and that’s what throws him off most. not knowing how to place what she’s feeling. it scares him because he doesn’t know that means.
and that, in turn, angers him. he’s so confused it pisses him off, because this isn’t them. he doesn’t snark at her like this, she doesn’t ignore him. it’s not about hyunwoo. or— or maybe it is, but not about him specifically. it could’ve been anyone, if they’d threatened levi’s presence in callie’s life enough. because that’s what this boils down to, doesn’t it? she’s so close to someone who’s not him, as if she’s trying to replace him.
‘i do want you, so be with me.’ isn’t that what she’d told him, back in that classroom? she’s not supposed to want anyone else—
his head’s reeling. he raises his voice.
“lee kahee!” the streets are mostly abandoned, but they could’ve been crowded and levi still wouldn’t have cared about anyone else around them at this point. “stop. talk to me.”

reposingminds·:
it had been a few hours since the matches had ended for the day and after being checked out of the infirmary, callie was free to go on about her evening — though she’d be lying if she said that upper body didn’t hurt like hell. sure, she had worse beatings by bludgers in previous games, but merlin, nate sure had one hell of a swing.
although she felt a little bad for not going out to celebrate with her team when it was their first win, she was glad to take it easy tonight not only for the sake of her own scrapes and bruises, but to also help keep levi company. it was shocking to see hwaseong have their first loss of the season and knowing how hard levi can be on himself, callie would much rather be readily available to him more than anything else. it seemed like nate had the same idea.
so the three of them were situation in the seeker’s dorm, entangled on his couch as they watched levi’s favorite film. she had seen the matrix with levi before, perhaps some time earlier last year, the other shocked and perhaps even appalled at the idea that she had never watched the film before. of course, he was more than willing to show her despite the confusion she had through most if it. fast forward to present day, some concepts of the film were still pretty confusing, but at least callie felt a bit more accomplished at the realization that some of the missing pieces were starting to come together through her second watch through.
a knowing smile crossed her lips as nate expressed his confusion at what was happening so far in the movie. she’d been there and was glad to know she wasn’t the only one confused during their first sit through. meeting gazes with nate, she merely shrugged unsure whether her guess was as good as his.
“i think they’re in some sort of simulation?” she offers as she picks at the popcorn sitting on her lap before passing it over to levi who was sitting across from her with nate. “the matrix is the simulation and everyone living inside it are actually trapped. i think — what his name — neo, yeah. he has to stop the matrix from the inside out to free everyone from this fake virtual world, right?”
after that devastating upset — merlin, he doesn’t even want to think about it anymore — it had come to no surprise to levi to find callie at his door after her own match, waiting to cheer him up. he’d already kind of expected her to come over, considering she always had some sort of sixth sense when it came to knowing the exact time to show up and make his day. the real surprise had been nate, who’d tagged along too. but even that hadn’t exactly caught him off guard as they’d been… hanging out. a lot. “we friends now?” he’d teased when closing the door behind them, because yeah, at this point they were, but the grin on his face had been half-hearted, and the both of them had noticed.
he can’t remember how they’d ended up on the couch, with him resting in-between them somehow. he feels nate’s chest against his back, and levi’s leaning most of his weight on him. he’s got callie’s legs sprawled in his lap, his thumb subconsciously drawing circles over her knee. it’s a flurry of limbs, arms and legs everywhere — and levi feels more at ease than he has all day. that might be because they’re also watching the matrix, though. “pay attention,” he purposely digs an elbow into nate’s thigh. “you’re not focused, that’s why you’re confused.” there’s nothing about this movie that’s hard, if you asked him.
“neo woke up in the real world, for the first time. that’s why he’s in that tank,” he nods towards the screen, where neo — now bald like a newborn baby — tries to escape the wires that are stuck inside of him. at least callie’s been paying attention, and levi digs into the popcorn she’s sharing, talking around the pieces in his mouth. “it’s a dystopian future,” maybe he’s more into this than he should be, but this is his favorite movie. “and yeah, humanity’s unknowingly trapped inside a simulated reality. the machines have been using humans as energy sources. but the movie tells you that! watch.”

hello stranger.
at honeydews’ bakery & sweets with callie. @reposingminds (06/11/20)
he’s jittery.
it’s not because of the already half-empty iced coffee he’d ordered with a tight-lipped smile, nodding stiffly when honeydews’ owner recognized him and asked if he’d like to get the usual. he’d shrugged when she’d asked, ‘oh, where’s your friend?’ because he’d already been expecting that knowing look in her eyes when she puts the emphasis on friend, like it’s some inside joke the three of them shared. today, he doesn’t want to acknowledge it. he just wants to sit here in this damn booth, eat his damn treat and be done with this damn day. ‘she’ll be here,‘ he’d said. she always is.
except callie isn’t. not yet, and that’s what’s causing his foot to tap on the floor like a vexed customer. she’s late. barely, but late. and callie’s never late, at least not without letting him know. but he’d checked his phone a minute ago and she hasn’t sent him a message, so. where is—
oh. there she is.
when he sees her walk inside the shop, there’s a swoop in levi’s stomach. it’s similar to that feeling you experience when you’ve been waiting at the top of the rollercoaster, the brief moment of exhilaration before you realize you’re about to plummet down — and then actually do. it’s been happening more and more around calie: he’s so incredibly relieved, confused and irritated all at once simply at the sight of her, and levi has no idea which one he’s supposed to express. and it bothers him. it bothers him to the point where it feels like an itch under his skin, something he can’t quite get rid of no matter how or where he tries to scratch it. he needs it to stop. how does he make it stop?
he doesn’t say hello and the smile on his face can barely be called one. “i didn’t think you’d show up.” it’s said so airily, as if it’s an off-handed remark, as if he doesn’t mean anything by it. as if things haven’t been weird and he can tease her like he always does — or at least that’s what he’s trying to pass it off as. except there’s nothing about the tone of his voice that implies it was a joke, and levi knows it. well, irritation it is. he doesn’t want to be an ass, not on today of all days, but he’s so god damn annoyed that it's obvious he's just spewing word vomit for the sake of being an ass.
don’t say it, don’t say it, don’t— “did you get lost on your ex-boyfriend’s dick while on your way here?” …and he said it.

“you’re helping me, a customer,” levi’s quick to point that one out. what does nate mean, he doesn’t work here? alright, so he’s not being paid as far as levi knows, but nate’s still helping around the store, isn’t he? clearly he couldn’t have known the next person in the store was going to be levi, so that means he’s nate’s customer. yeah, solid logic. levi’s not sure why it even matters at this point, but whatever. they bicker about nonsense all the time, so.
no special treatment? boo. “damn, knew i should’ve brought callie.” yeah, he’s teasing, but it’s not a lie to say nate’s got a soft spot for her, so she probably would have received a lil’ something extra. he answers nate’s look (glare) with a mock-innocent smile, obviously intent to be the most annoying customer nate’s going to have to deal with today. because why not? It’s not like levi’s got any other plans. jieun can wait.
is that all you need? “probably,” he can’t be bothered to double check. he’s alright with potions, not quite the ‘expert’ jieun is, but it all looks like it should be right. “that was quick,” he’s commenting on the amount of time it took nate to pick out the ingredients, but the grin on his face suggests something else entirely. “quicker than expected, i mean. kind of like last night, when you came—”
his gaze suddenly shifts to something else behind nate, and that playful look in his eyes immediately disappears, replaced with something more kind — he even straightens his back, making sure he’s not leaning on the counter anymore. “hi, mrs. moon.” oops.
flushed emoji.
umhdurum:
jieun’s the worst. the wicked witch of the east. and west. and every other direction, because she’s everywhere. no matter when, no matter where, his best friend somehow always knows where he is whenever she needs him to do her a favor. this time, it’s for a potion of hers, some sort of ingredient that they didn’t have back at the castle. so who does she send out to get it? levi, of course. because levi cannot say no to his childhood friend, for whatever reason. he insists it’s because he can’t stand the pouty look on her face she gets whenever he tells her no, but it’s probably that feeling of duty, as her best friend. they’ve taken care of each other since they were kids, he shouldn’t complain. right?
or whatever. he hates this. he’d wanted to stay in his dorms, think up a more effective training regime for his team, but noooo. he’s at dalfin’s emporium of solutions now, waiting for anyone to help him. this is nate’s mother’s store, and though he hasn’t come here often, she’s always been incredibly nice to him and pleasant to chat with, so at least there’s that. but it’s not delphine whose head peeks out of what levi assumes to be the storage unit. speak of the devil…
“hey.” he snorts at the rather blunt question of why he’s there. “damn, nathaniel, are you always this friendly to your customers?” it’s obvious he’s not done yet, because of the grin on his face. “or you givin’ me the special treatment because we’re fucking?” it’s a good thing he’s the only one there in the store right now, or else that would’ve raised a few eyebrows into their direction. but levi obviously doesn’t care, because it’s not like he’s told a lie.
but he’s there for a reason, and flustering nate isn’t it. though that’s an added bonus. “jieun needs some ingredients for some potion she’s brewing. goosegrass and, uh, whatever’s on this list.” he digs around in his pocket for it, handing the crushed up note over to nate with an innocent smile that suggests that yes, he did crumple that paper on purpose and no, he’s not going to smoothen it out for him.
“hey, they’re not my customers,” he’s is quick to insist, “i don’t even work here.” though, levi does make a fair point — he doesn’t usually treat his mother’s customers with such bluntness. then again, the customers aren’t usually kang levi, which he should be thanking whatever higher-ups there are for, judging by the topic immediately brought up upon his arrival.
following a quick look to the back, to make sure his mother is still not here (because god knows he’d be beyond ashamed had she just heard levi’s words), there’s a roll of his eyes at levi’s words. “sorry, no special treatment here, kang. just didn’t expect to see you here, that’s all.” it’s not like levi deals much in potions, does he?
the reason for his visit is soon explained, though, as nate is handed a crumpled list of items. there’s a glance over at levi, bordering on a glare, as he smooths the piece of paper out to the point where it’s readable. okay. so there’s a few ingredients he doesn’t recognize, but thankfully for him, he knows everything is labeled on the shelves.
“i’ll, uh, get them for you.” with a nod, he leaves levi as he goes to grab the right ingredients, making quick work of it despite carefully double checking everything. he doesn’t know dahlia, but if he’s being honest, the grad student does slightly intimidate him. just a little bit — enough for him to want to ensure there’s no room for error. once everything’s collected (again, he’s carefully double checked that he got everything), he brings it all back to the register, again facing levi.
“so…” how do you talk to customers again? wow, maybe his lack of customer service skills is the reason his mother has never wanted to hire him officially. or maybe, it’s just weird that levi is the customer. this isn’t usually the kind of setting they meet in, after all. “is that all you need?”

kermit’s been missin’ an awful lot. levi’s not one to worry because his toad’s almost like a cat: she goes on wild adventures — he’s seen her terrorize a few of the other pets that walk around campus — but she’s always home in time for dinner. this time around, however, she hadn’t been. and she hadn’t been home for breakfast either. yeah, levi’s not one to worry, but he thinks this is reason enough to be mildly concerned.
where’s this damn toad? could be that she’s somewhere in the dungeons, again. it’s her favorite spot, aside from the pool of universe, and he’d seen her with another toad there a while ago. she hadn’t been bullying it, though, they’d been sitting there vibin’. maybe she’s made a friend, that’d be kind of cute. being forever alone must get boring.
but he should make sure, just so he knows she’s not in any trouble. his toad’s like him: sturdy, able to take care of herself. doesn’t mean she doesn’t need a little help once in a while, even if kermit’s never ready to accept it. wait, is he talking about his toad or himself at this point? who knows. he’s gotta check out the dungeons.
it’s an incredibly shrill shriek that welcomes him. uh. “dotty,” he’s eyeing her almost warily, as if she’s about to lose her marbles. then again, is that even possible when she’s already lost ‘em ages ago? “what’re you doing with my toad? what— are those? eggs?” oh no. he’s too handsome to be a grandfather, what the hell.
scales: missing in action!
and, according to levi, so is kermit! 24/11/20. ( @umhdurum )
ugh, that scales. he’s sure been away a lot recently, hasn’t he? in the past few weeks, he’s managed to escape her dorm room, several times at that! and with nowhere to be found in the suseong common rooms, either. most of the times, he turned up again on his own, but then there was that one time she’d found him in the dungeons, of all places.
today he’s missing, again. and today, dotty swears she’ll come to the bottom of what exactly he’s up to these days. this university, though? it’s huge, like, hogwarts level huge. so while she doesn’t expect finding her toad to be an easy task, she does have a slight idea on where to begin looking — the dungeons, where she’d found him last.
and perhaps it’s not surprising when she finds him there again. a new favorite spot, perhaps? has he gotten tired of the airiness of the suseong tower? maybe she needs to start going on walks with him. what is surprising, though, is that this time, she finds him with another toad. and… is that…?
“AHHHH!!!” a shrill shriek leaves her, at the sight of what looks suspiciously a lot like toad eggs. “scales! are you starting a family? and you didn’t think to tell me?!” dotty bends down, getting a closer look at the two toads. “awww, scales. i’m so happy for you! who’s your girlfriend?”
