the thing that gets me about about barbie is that barbie land wasn’t even purposefully a matriarchy, barbie land came about because of the way little girls were playing with their barbies, it wasn’t created by mattel it was created by the people using the toys, so the fact that the barbies ignored the ken’s and had girls night every night wasn’t because they had some bias against him, it was just an accurate depiction of how kids play with barbies. I had some ken dolls as a child and they were essential to the plot in the sense that of course my barbie has a boyfriend because that represented the world i saw around me, but also he didn’t have any purpose in my dream world because i was only interested in what the girls were doing because they represented me and how i wanted to be, I wanted girls night every night I wanted the girls to be president and austronauts and not because of some inherent feminist idea but because I was a girl and I wasn’t thinking about boys, ken was an accessory. this movie wasn’t made to change the world but it showed a different perspective than what we usually see which I thought was fun. Men don’t have to be the centre of all our stories and its not even because we hate them, sometimes we’re just not thinking about them

I honestly feel like media needs to start portraying more lesbians and gay men who didn’t realize they were gay until much later in life. Lesbians and gay men who married the opposite sex and had a family. Lesbians and gay men with religious traumas that made it hard for them to understand they could have been gay. Lesbians and gay men who honestly struggle to make the connection that they are gay because of how ingrained societal standards are in them. I need for the media to start having characters that didn’t always know. Not everyone always knows and it would be beneficial to show that. There is no time limit on realizing your sexuality or gender.

I just want to remind you that sometimes your life really doesn't begin until you are 26+... Romanticizing and obsessing over our youth is harmful. Growing up is beautiful. Discovering who you are and how you interact with the world is a gift. Maturing and learning what you truly want out of life and living in that purpose brings fulfillment and peace. Your life is not over in your early 20's because you haven't figured it out yet, it's just beginning.

if you are a lesbian who used to identify as bisexual...
if you are a bisexual woman who used to identify as a lesbian...
i am so proud of you, and even more happy for you that you have discovered something new about yourself.
there is no shame in going from one label to another if you find the new one reflects you better, and you are not betraying anyone for doing so. changing labels does not make you any less worthy of love.
you are not a stereotype. you are human, a human who is constantly evolving and always on the journey of self discovery. ignore anyone who says otherwise. you owe them nothing. your sexuality is your own.
this is a beautiful next step. i am endlessly proud of you for getting to this point, and i wish you all the luck and magic as you go on forward 💕💐
