I got the urge to make PWHL teams as Pokemon gyms. Here's my team, the Montreal Victoire, as a flying type gym with Braviary as Hockey Captain Poulin's Ace.
I will have the other PWHL teams designed soon too!

No, it's fine, I'm definitely not thinking about murdering someone because for the third time in a row the final game of the season is going to be on ESPN. NO IT'S FINE I TOTALLY DON'T CARE AND AM NOT THROWING A FIT AND OR RAGE PLOTTING MURDER

pwhl camp day 2
today was fun too!!! we did a lot of edges today. and we jumped over higher things (or, we had the alternative at least, and i did). we played sharks and minnows, which was super fun. we did several drills with stops and i got meaningfully better at using my outside edge. i learned how to trace with my toe on turns, which i have always thought looks super cool but nobody ever showed me how so i never tried it before. i do indeed feel super cool doing it.
i scored in the scrimmage again and i also put a lot more pucks than usual in the net during drills, but i think a lot of that was because the goalies were getting tired. two hours of ice time two days in a row is a lotttttt, and i feel like the limited NHL practice schedule actually makes much more sense now that i've experienced skating that damn much for two days in a row. practice skating is different than game skating. something about sustained reps vs. game shifts. to consider further.
i really gotta make some time to go to stick and puck and work on my edges, and/or i need to be a lot more deliberate about using good technique during games. i haven't spent any time actually working on skating since i stopped doing lessons with katelyn, but two intense days of it was a good reminder that even a little bit of work gets me noticeable results.
coach said something at the end about how canadians can take hockey for granted because they're all practically born with skates on, and so it was good to see the energy of a group who all took up hockey later in life. he said he came to seattle because he wanted to see something grow. i'm thinking again about how the kraken understand that the best way to grow hockey is to cultivate demographics that hockey has traditionally overlooked.
today was autograph day, so i got megan carter and hannah murphy and coach to sign the excellent pwhl practice jersey we got issued for camp. why the hell not have a fun little side quest to see if i can get the whole team on there this season? i would never in a million years want to interact with a male hockey player to get an autograph, but with the pwhl it feels like it's a way to say we see you, we appreciate you, we're so happy you're here.
anyway, the additional pwhl scoop from camp is that we're going to have a name in a couple of months, and the green color they've been using for their placeholder logo is not necessarily going to stick around. i'm psyched we'll have a name for season 1!

pwhl camp day 1
i went to pwhl camp and it was great! very fun to be part of the first official pwhl seattle ice time, as coach noted. (not sure what to call him. the coach? our coach? pwhl seattle coach? coach o'rourke seems very formal.)
we had a nice looooong on-ice session (so long they did a fresh cut halfway through). skating work, edges, two sets of four drills, and then a little 4v4 half ice scrimmage. megan carter and hannah murphy were running drills and circulating to chat with everyone, and they are both lovely and seemed so happy to be here.
i also like our coach very much. if we must have a man involved, at least he's extremely western canadian. while we were working on edges he gave me two very specific and helpful tips about form. it was excruciating to be individually watched by a pro coach but it was worth it for the advice. it was also very interesting to watch him run the show and see how the players and kraken staff who were working the clinic responded to him.
i scored a goal in the scrimmage! and i got a compliment from megan carter for my jumps! the drills were supposed to involve jumping over the stickhandling barriers, but they wisely assessed the skill level of the group and modified it so we didn't have to jump, but i think it's way easier to just jump over if you're coming in with momentum instead of slowing down to go over one skate at a time, so i jumped anyway and megan carter approved.
afterwards they had a little q&a, which was very interesting. hannah murphy said the first welcome to seattle text she got was from joey daccord, so everyone was delighted about that. someone asked about how sharing facilities with the kraken is going to work, and coach got way too candid and said some stuff about how they're taking over the U18 locker room and it's small, but in sports you make it work, and eventually it will be good, and they've been told that they're moving to kirkland in two years. then the media relations person jumped in to pump the brakes and said nothing is official yet. sounds like we inadvertently got a big scoop though!
(i was kind of hoping the kraken would move to kirkland and leave northgate to the ladies since all the dudes live on the eastside anyway but oh well. i'm not going to say anything bad about two more sheets of ice in town and a better setup for the pwhl!)
