it really is fucking wild that we got a movie about Peter mourning Tony and a tv show about Wanda mourning Vision and a tv show about Sam and Bucky mourning Steve (funnily enough this is the SECOND tv show about someone mourning Steve, RIP Agent Carter) and yet we don’t see anyone giving a shit about Natasha’s death for more than three minutes.

A moment in TFATWS that I enjoy is the scene right after they leave the meeting with Bucky’s therapist. Sam says “I feel great!” and Bucky says “I feel awful.”And…not only is that them in a nutshell, it also leads into one of my favorite underappreciated SamBucky dynamics.
Sam doesn’t let anyone get close when he’s hurting, and always deflects, whether it’s with sarcasm or jokes or turning the conversation to someone else or faking a smile. “I feel great” is obviously sarcastic, so it comes off as angry more than hurt, but it’s also a way of shutting down any other conversation they might have. Deflect deflect deflect.
Bucky on the other hand wears his heart on his sleeve. He blurts out facts about his life to people like Leah and Yori who he barely knows. He talks honestly about his feelings to anyone he trusts and he never seems to be afraid to have those conversations. “I feel awful” is not only 100% open and honest and vulnerable, it’s a invitation to talk about what happened.
And I find this so interesting because on the surface Sam often appears open and in touch with his emotions while Bucky appears as closed off and reserved, but in reality Bucky is almost always the one who’s willing to open up while Sam tries to avoid doing so. It’s also such a great thing for SamBucky because Bucky’s openness can create the space for Sam to let down his defenses too. We even see this in the show: it’s Bucky apologizing in the shield throwing scene that leads to the heart to heart that they both needed.

the first bit of Good Game I wrote, which I then cut because it never made sense for this scene to happen
nsfw text obviously!
“I’m gonna kick you with my shoes off,” Sam says. When he was younger he would have apologized, tried to justify why he’d do certain fucked up things but not others—but he’s pretty comfortable just saying it now.
Bucky lifts his head up off the floor as Sam’s taking off his sneakers. “You won’t damage me. Honest, they used to kick me with boots on all the time.”
“I know, but it still feels like I could really hurt you, so. Just not into it.”
Bucky kind of screws up his forehead but he also lays his head back down. Sam is thinking he’s getting ready to say something else, but apparently they’re not on the same page because Bucky whines, “I’m sorry, I’m sorry, please don’t make me wait. What do you want me to say?”
“You know what I want,” Sam says, because, well, if Bucky thinks he has to say something, Sam’s never going to say no to that. For good measure he rests his sock foot on Bucky’s throat, and Bucky’s eyes go all starry. It doesn’t seem to be a problem that there’s no boot.
“I love this,” Bucky says.
Sam pushes gently on his neck. “Good. Again.”
“I love it.”
“Yeah, you do.” Sam steps back and starts kicking Bucky’s prone form, walking all around him to make sure he gets everything. It probably doesn’t hurt that much—Bucky just lies there and sighs, which is pretty satisfying, until Sam gets a little too close to his balls and Bucky yells.
The same thing happens—Sam stops, automatically, to make sure everything’s okay, and Bucky starts talking. He starts going, “Thank you, thank you. More, please. I love it. Hurt me there again.” He’s so excited he’s stumbling over the words, and he’s spreading his legs a little for Sam to kick him, and he’s really hard.
“Fuck! You’re so fucking hot, you’re so fucking hot, I mean, all joking aside you are killing me,” Sam says, which is really self-contained and intimidating and not ruining the mood at all.

Good Game (24453 words) by birdbrains Chapters: 1/1 Fandom: The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (TV) Rating: Explicit Warnings: Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings Relationships: James "Bucky" Barnes/Sam Wilson Additional Tags: Dom/sub, Past Rape/Non-con, Kink Shaming, Human Furniture, Face-Fucking, Orgasm Denial, Watersports, Communication, Begging, there's a fine line tbh, work partners to play partners, Not Raynor Positive, Mostly takes place during the show, you just have to imagine they had a lot of downtime Summary:
“Take all my sympathy as read,” Sam says, “it’s fucked up what they did to you, but my point still stands. If you like pain there’s plenty of normal people you could date.”
“If they like pain,” Bucky snaps, “then they’re not normal. Q.E.D.!” He gets really loud sometimes. “Besides, it’s not just pain. The details of what I need—you’d be horrified if I told you.”
“Yeah? I notice you haven’t tried telling me.” Sam can’t stand people making a big deal about how shocking their kinks are, and he can’t stand Bucky anyway. So it’s not the most palatable combination.

You can call yourself a lesbian but condoning R*ylo is peak heterosexuality. Embarrassing and disgusting
You're right anon. It is embarrassing and disgusting. What could be more wretched, more tragic, than the moment Mickey Mouse burst into my apartment, astonishing me as I laid in a feathered robe on my bed, the midst of polishing my strap-on?
What could be more terrible than him leveling a begloved, corpse-white finger at me and demanding I morally condone a hot goth kissing a magic ingenue?
I tried to resist, I really did. I clung to my lesbian accoutrements, calling on the spirit of Leslie Feinberg to protect me, but to no avail. The Mouse forced a heterosexuality card into my hand and in that moment, it was all over. My pussy closed for business, my cats deserted me, and I started researching super bowl buffalo chicken dip recipes.
God, if only blockbusters weren't the only way to ascertain goodness. but the Bible (a thing I know about now, because I'm straight) is clear on this issue. As Christ said:
Ye shall know them by their ships. ... A good tree cannot bring forth evil ships, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good ships. Every tree that bringeth not forth good ships is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their ships ye shall know them." (Matthew 7:15 - 20)
Wise words.

My post from 2016 (about Sam being written as a 1-dimensional caretaker) is being reblogged a lot again. The fandom climate has kind of changed so I do want to clarify, I AM problematic and I AM writing a fic where Sam pees on Bucky in a motel room.

THE VEST
You know this is the first piece of clothing I’ve ever bought for myself. The point is, I’ve never had control over my own life before and now I do. I want to do things.

A sporadically maintained journal of wanting to die and not dying anyway, and also how hot it is to move to Louisiana in the summer.
Doc asked about writing, I said it’s going good, she said can I see, I said no it’s a journal it’s private, she said so you haven’t been writing, I said I’ve been writing, she said okay I don’t have to read it just flip through the pages, I didn’t say anything, she said that’s what I thought James.
Content warning for suicidal thinking, depression, a lot of therapy thinking, and (I’m not saying this to be flippant, I know this is genuinely a deal breaker for many people) first person journal style.

I’m way more bothered now that I’ve seen some of the fan response.
I’m in my 30s, I came out when I was 13. For years I was the only openly gay person in my high school. I’ve forgiven so many straight people for being homophobic or just ignored it because I had to be around them. I can ignore a straight actor being homophobic; it’s certainly easier than ignoring friends or family being homophobic.
And I’m not going to get in a long argument about this--the idea that there was a good old days when gay relationships were unthinkable is pretty vile, even though straight people may not think through what they’re really saying. They miss when they were the only game in town and everyone else was “other.”
The idea that straight ships are normal and gay ships are “twisted” and “exploitative”, or just people trying to be trendy, is not great either.
The idea that straight men are being inconvenienced by the fear of someone thinking they’re gay is, um...well, I guess they are being inconvenienced because they think that’s a legitimate thing to be afraid of, but that’s, like, just because they’re homophobic, so...
I don’t want to hear one more galaxy brain take about why what he said was Good Actually. He said himself he doesn’t look at fandom stuff, so this wasn’t secretly a comment on racist tropes in fanfiction or any other problems in fandom because he literally doesn’t know about them. He is just upset that straight people aren’t treated as the default quite as much as they used to be.
Mackie’s weird quote was a buzzkill, I tbh wish people wouldn’t ask actors about ships. Can’t actors and fans just politely ignore each other?

This one may be tired of war, but the White Wolf has rested long enough.
This moment in Infinity War is so underrated and I’m still not over it. The first thing Bucky says when he sees his new arm is “Where’s the fight?” The arm is a gift, he should be happy, but instead he looks absolutely miserable.
In his mind, he may not be Hydra’s weapon anymore, but he’s still a weapon. Simply a tool in someone else’s arsenal – graciously allowed to “rest” when not needed but deployed just as easily. In his mind, this “gift” means one thing and one thing only: that he’s going to be thrown out on a battlefield again. That he’ll have to kill again, whether he wants to or not. In his mind, it’s no coincidence that he’s only being given a new arm now, of all times. Hydra taught him that he would never get anything nice without paying for it in blood. The worst part is his assumption is not wrong.
