Jonathan wondered what type of people walked in, how Alex ended up finding out about their abilities as well. Were they more open about it, just walking around moving things with their minds or heating up their lunch in their hands, “I’ve lived in Manhattan for most of my life, but I knew about my ability long before we were outed, well one ability, it was a bit complicated.”
It was easier to explain than Jon was making it, but remembering it was in itself was hard, a time that existed where flight was the one thing Jon thought he could do, “What about you? Where were you when Marvel comics became one big live action movie?”
"I was..." Alex paused before answering. Did he really want to tell Jon about his life in hiding? It was fairly private, and Jon, though a nice seeming guy, was still a stranger. "It was complicated, like you." He said, nodding his head and hoping that Jon would understand his reluctance to share.
In truth, he'd been sitting in a bar, under a false name, watching the girl who saved his life introduce the world to their kind. But explaining the whole reason he had been there would expose more about him than he wanted known.
"I saw it on the news though, came to the city a few months ago."

"Well I suppose so." Alex chuckled rubbing a hand over the back of his neck whilst he thought on her question for a moment. About a year ago, he'd gotten curious about the extent of his power, found a lake and timed himself. "So far, I've managed about an hour and a half." He said, nodding his head. "But I can go down again a lot quicker than other divers." He had no idea as to the physiological explanation for his power, but it had to have something to do with his lungs.
"So uh, hydrokenisis you called it, what can you do with it?"

Jon nodded, though he did so with hesitation, “A lot of people are a bit protective about just letting people do what they do, and I can see why.” These were some extraordinary things that they could do, and some even believe it’s the one thing about them that makes them special, unique in their own right, even in a world where some could even do the exact same thing that they can. Someone walking up and adding their ability to their roster was probably something some people wouldn’t tolerate as well as Alex could.
“So, I can imagine that you meet a lot of people with abilities when you work in a comic book store, probably a lot of people looking for heroes with powers like their’s to get ideas off of, you know?”
“It’ll be alright, I’m sure.” Alex smiled sympathetically, tilting his head to the side slightly. Surely this wasn’t going to be irreversible, but Jonathan was probably freaking out about it, and comforting words wouldn’t help.
Nodding his head, Alex answered. “Yeah, there’ve been quite a few recently. I mean, I’ve only been here a couple months, so I have no idea what it was like when we were first outed. Probably even weirder. Were you in the city at the time? What was it like?”

“Huh. Well I’m glad you’re back.” She smiled widely at him before looking around a bit awkwardly. “If you’re here to stay for good, we should go get something to eat and catch up.” Claire bit her lip and looked up at Alex almost eagerly now, waiting for an answer.
“I’m free…now, if you want to go.” Her smile widened. “And I honestly haven’t really had a great day, so I could use a distraction if you’re up for it. Besides, I think you owe me after that kiss the last time we saw each other.”
Cheeks going slightly pink at the mention of their last meeting, Alex held up a finger to defend himself. “That-” He began, laughing a little. “Was just so you could breathe.” At least, that’s what he told himself those days he thought back to her. “So we wouldn’t get caught. Worked didn’t it?”
Grinning, Alex though on her offer for a moment, before happily nodding head. Really, he couldn’t think of a better way to spend the evening. “Sure, I’ve got the time. You probably know this place better than me, so wherever you want to go.”

Jonathan seemed a bit more settled when Alex made it clear he didn’t hold any ill will against him, relaxing his shoulders, “Yeah, I’m fine, I’m just a little shook up. This is sort of the first time I’m losing an ability, and I’m a little worried that I lost the one that works as my main means of getting around town.” Jon scratched the back of his head and moved past Alex as of to regain his bearings, “So, uh, you come here often?”
The more nervous of the two tried for a light grin, probably meaning to add a pinch of humor to their rather dramatic discovery.
Alex was very aware that Jon was quite nervous. He wanted to help out, but didn’t really know what more he could do to let him relax. It mustn’t be easy to have a power like that, and Alex couldn’t really say he was jealous. Breathing underwater wasn’t really something he needed to practice using, it was just a thing that he could do.
“Yeah, I come here quite a lot, given that I work here and what-not.” He chuckled, nodding his head. “And worst case scenario is that you have lost this power, but then you just gotta find someone with that power and get it back. I’m sure they’ll be someone?”

Jonathan looked at the other’s extended hand a moment before he took it and gave it a hesitant shake, “Alex…That, uh, is that short for Alexander?” Probably a dumb question, but Jon was suddenly feeling like he should leave, he should really leave, he really wants to leave. This was a big bad, a very big bad, and all Jonathan could think about was what he might have lost in order to gain the ability to breathe underwater. Did he lose the power to fly?
Remembering that he was in the middle of a handshake, he pulled his hand away and looked at Alex, suddenly feeling very sweaty, “Again, I’m really sorry about all of this. I didn’t think you had an ability, and I can understand why you wouldn’t want anyone to just copy it like that.”
"It's..." Alex thought for a moment, considering how he really felt about the whole thing now he understood it more. "It's fine, Jonathan, really, don't worry about it." As far as he could tell, it was really no problem for him if someone else could do the same thing as him.
"Are you alright? Does it.. Is there an effect on you when you do it? Are you okay?"

She was going to leave, already turned for the door, but then Alex mentioned their similarities so she stilled. Lynn shrugged slight. “Yeah.” She gestured with her hands, glancing to them. “It says hydrokinesis on my papers. Which is basically…all water manipulation? Not that I have that range of skills, yet.”
Her eyebrows raised, curious and a bit hopeful. “What is it you can do?” Lynn smiled, sharing, “I haven’t met anyone with a water power, this is cool.”
“Wow.” Alex didn’t stop himself from smiling brightly at the thought of that power. Breathing underwater was cool enough, but being able to control it? It just sounded amazing.
Glancing at the water for a second, Alex rubbed the back of his neck before replying. “I breath underwater. Not quite as useful as your’s, but it’s fun.” He said with a grin.

Awkwardly, Jon leaned against one of the displays, “Uh..”, Jon thought to use his ridiculous alias he had made on the spot last week when he’d met that antique shop owner, but ‘Johnny Sprinter’ didn’t seem like a good enough alias to fool someone who knew he had abilities and suspected that he’d hide his real name. Then again, maybe Alex didn’t think that Jon would try to do that, so maybe if he thought f-“Jonathan Walker, but you can call me Jon if you want.”
Jon sort of owed it to Alex not to lie to him, especially after so rudely taking his ability like that. All in all, running away seemed like an option, but he did sort of spend actual money for those books and would at least like to walk out with what he paid for.
“Jonathan.” He nodded his head, pausing for a second before extending his hand to greet the man properly. The way he saw it, there was probably nothing more that Jonathan could do by touching hands again... probably. “Nice to meet you, Jon. I’m Alex and uh... Well... Enjoy breathing underwater, I guess.. Unless you’re a swimmer it doesn’t really come into play much, except for maybe in the bath I guess.”

“More so frightening for you, I imagine.” Jon took an awkward breath, watching Alex move to better inspect Jon made him feel as if he were being forced into a verbal corner, “There’s a bit more to it than just copying, but that’s the basic thing. As far as I’m aware, I can only hold onto four abilities at a time and that means I’d have to have lost one when I took yours…” This has never happened before, plus he’s never tried to replicate from a normal person before, so what had he expected?
There were plus sides, he guessed breathing underwater wouldn’t kill anyone, harmless. Jonathan wondered how Alex felt about all of it, it’s not every day that a customer comes in with glowing red hands an says I do what you do’.
All Alex could do whilst the other man explained was nod his head and try to understand. Why had Jonathan tried to replicate an ability he didn’t think existed? Though curious as to the guy’s reasoning, Alex knew it was probably best to leave it. Honestly, he didn’t know how he felt about the whole thing, other than kinda freaked out of course.
“Right so... I mean... okay.” He nodded, his head- brows lowered. Where did they go from here? Was this just an accident that he’d have to try to forget? “What’s your name?” He asked, deciding that was probably a good place to start.

She felt bad for the way the guy seemed to get all nervous. Lynn shook off his apologetic look with a wave of a hand. “No, no. You’re obviously here to actually use the pool,” she pointed out, then looked at her clothes. Lynn quirked her lips. “It would not be fair if I kicked you out.”
“And anyway, I only wanted to see if this thing is still open so I can practice my ability.” Once she actually walked in the room, Lynn remembered her encounter with Claire last week. That was cringe-worthy; and because of that something she pushed out of her mind, apparently. She nodded to him. “I see that it is, uh, open, so I’ll let you swim in peace.”
“Well uh-” Alex rubbed the back of his neck, not sure whether he should tell the girl that he wasn’t technically be at the school or not. “I was gonna practice too..” He said, looking at the water for a moment, before he smiled back at the stranger. “You have a water power too? I gotta ask, uh, what do uh, what do you do?”

Jon looked around for a moment to check and see if anybody heard them, but nobody else seemed to be here, luckily. Turning his attention back to Alex, he spoke as if the cashier had accused him of something, “I-I didn’t think you actually had an ability! I thought it wouldn’t work, last time I do something like that on a whim…” Jonathan checked to make sure his body wasn’t doing anything it otherwise wouldn’t, this reminding him to ask a very vital question, “What can you do?”
Stepping back up to the counter, his voice went back to a slightly more casual tone, probably trying to keep the situation calm on some level, “Not that I’m not sorry for doing that without your permission, but I’m sure you understand that I can’t go around town if it turns out you shoot lasers out of your eyes…”
“Don’t worry about that.” Still watching the man cautiously, Alex crossed his arms over his chest as he explained his power. “I just uh, i breathe underwater, so, you’ll be fine.” Alex sighed and walked around the counter so he could stand closer to the customer and be on the same level as him. He knew that the man wouldn’t have done it on purpose, but that didn’t mean he had to be happy about it.
“So you can copy people abilities? That’s uh... interesting.”

Jonathan took a glance at the total, taking a few bills from the stack and putting the rest back in his wallet and doing the usual hand off that many people do a day. In retrospect, Jon wasn’t sure why he did it, maybe on a whim, maybe he wanted to get to know this comic book cashier better, but it’s more probable that he wanted to know if he had an ability or not. Jon’s pinkie made contact with the side of Alex’s palm, then began to glow a bright red, the pattern glowing in such a way that it seemed as if a current was resonating /from/ Alex and into Jonathan.
At the sight, the first thing Jon felt was excitement. This man was just like him! Now whatever he could do, Jon could do too! Then he felt guilt, Jonathan had made a promise to himself he’d never replicate without permission. What right did he have to take what one might find special about themselves and lessen their self worth by being able to do it as well? Then he felt panic, not even knowing for sure what Alex could do. What if Jon blew up randomly!? And what did Jon lose in exchange!?
He felt all of this in the span of a few seconds, dropping the money on the counter and taking a step back. Honestly, he hadn’t expected it to work, and now he wished he could take it back, “Uh…”, Not sure how to react, he awkwardly pointed at Alex, imagining that he was probably more confused than Jon, “I…You…We…” He cleared his throat loudly and continued, “I just…copied your ability.”
Alex had never really considered the possible dangers of taking money from someone before, but apparently it was something he was going to have to add to his lift of things-to-be-cautious-of. There was only a brief moment of physical contact, but as soon as their hands met,it seemed as though they started to glow.
Jonathan took a step back, but Alex stood there, staring at his hand in confusion for a moment before he managed to snap his focus back to the other man whist he tried to explain. “You copied my ability...” He repeated, finally dropping his hand. He knew that was a thing that people could do, but he hadn’t considered that it would happen to him. “You have a power... and now you have my power too?” He couldn’t help but be confused, especially given that 30 seconds ago, he’d been led to assume that the customer was just a regular human.

Laughing along, Alex shook his head. Sure, breathing underwater was cool, but the ability to create anything that you want with your mind still trumped it. He was just about getting ready to say goodbye to the friendly customer, when he handed him something. Alex smiled at the card for a moment, then back up at Ryant. “Definitely. I’ll have to show you some other comics you haven’t seen yet.” He grinned, flipping the card over between his fingers a couple times before putting it safely in his pocket.
