Moxham Castle was a beautiful castle that once stood in Sydney, Nova Scotia. AJ Moxham, who was a steel and rail engineer, moved most of the castle from Lorain, Ohio in 1900 to the small Cape Breton town for his wife, Helen, who only agreed to move if she could bring the castle too.
It has been described as having creepy wine cellars, large crystal chandeliers, a huge ballroom, a solarium, 14 fireplaces, 30 rooms and 2 large steam furnaces.
Not long after the move, tragedy struck when the Moxham’s son, Thomas, was killed after being hit and dragged by a rail train and nearly decapitated. Devastated by their loss, the Moxham family left the castle behind and moved back to the United States.
The Moxhams kept ownership of the castle for over 10 years, loaning it out as a convalescent house to soldiers returning from WWI. Eventually it became ruins after it was abandoned in the 1940s and was overgrown with weeds and shrubs before it ultimately caught fire and burned down in 1966.

DeNeka Dashay Walker has been missing since August 13th, 2010. The 30 year-old woman was last seen in her hometown of Muskegon, Michigan. On the day she vanished, DeNeka was seen getting into a black Cadillac CTS driven by a man known only by the nickname ‘Brick’. She never returned home and has never been seen or heard from again. DeNeka’s family finally reported her missing nine days later, on August 24th, 2010.
The only information that DeNeka’s family was able to provide to police was that she was last seen with the man known as Brick. The police were able to identify and contact this man, but they were unable to find any evidence that he was involved in DeNeka’s disappearance. He came into the police station for questioning, but he was eventually released from police custody.
DeNeka left behind four children, who were subsequently placed in foster care after her disappearance. Her family does not believe that she would voluntarily abandon her children. However, her family also heard rumors that prior to her disappearance, DeNeka was involved in the theft of a large amount of drugs and money. These rumors have not been confirmed, and it is unclear if the rumors have anything to do with her disappearance.
The Muskegon County Sheriff’s Department is investigating DeNeka’s case. If you have any information that could lead to her whereabouts, please contact them at 231-724-6750.

Lindsey Jo Baum was only 10 years old when she disappeared on June 26th, 2009. The night before she vanished, Lindsey told her mother, Melissa Baum, that she was frightened that something bad was going to happen to her very soon. When Melissa asked Lindsey what she meant, she replied “I don’t know, I just have a feeling.” This puzzled Melissa, but she did not worry for long; as Lindsey appeared to be back to her normal, happy self the following day.
That day, Lindsey and her brother Joshua spent the afternoon swimming at a friend’s house located close to their home in McCleary, Washington. The two of them returned home briefly before heading towards another friend’s house located five blocks away. However, on the way there, Joshua and Lindsey got into an argument and Joshua went back home. Lindsey made it to her friend’s house and hung out there for a few hours. The two girls hoped to have a sleepover that night, but the friend’s mother said no, and Lindsey began to walk home around 9:15pm. She was expected to be home by 9:30pm—her curfew. Based on the distance between the two homes, Lindsey should’ve made it home just in time. Unfortunately, she never made it there, and was reported missing by her mother by 11pm that night.
An immediate search provided no sign of Lindsey, nor did it provide any clues to her whereabouts. News about Lindsey’s disappearance garnered national attention. In fact, Lindsey was on the cover of People magazine in November 2009, five months after her disappearance. Despite this, there were very few clues or leads in Lindsey’s case. In 2010, the FBI searched the home of a 47 year-old man who had provided “inconsistent” statements to police, but no arrests were made. Two years later, investigators searched the home of local jewelry/pawn shop owner Tim Hartman. Throughout the search, investigators found ropes and handwritten notes about Lindsey’s disappearance. After this, Hartman was listed as a person of interest in the case, but he was not ever arrested or charged with anything in connection to Lindsey’s disappearance.
Other than these two searches, any news about Lindsey’s case seemed to be far and few in between. Then, during the summer of 2017, three elderly brothers known as the Emery brothers were arrested in Mason County, Washington and charged with possession of pornography. Mason County is located just 17 miles from Lindsey’s home in McCleary. Investigators searched their home for a possible connection to Lindsey, but have yet to reveal if they found one.
During September 2017, a hunter found human remains in a remote area of Eastern Washington. News about these remains were not spread in the media. At that time, it is unclear if investigators even pondered the idea that the remains belonged to Lindsey, due to the fact that they were found over three hours away from Lindsey’s home in McCleary. The remains were sent to Quantico, Virginia for forensic testing. Months later, on May 10th, 2018, investigators announced that the remains had been positively identified as Lindsey Baum. Family and friends of Lindsey are shocked and understandably devastated by the news. Her case is now classified as a homicide and police are looking for a suspect. If you have any information that could lead to Lindsey’s killer, please submit a tip by calling 360-964-1799 or sending a message to [email protected].

Cynthia Ardina “Cindy” Leslie (15) and Jackie Lynn Leslie (13) have not been seen in over 40 years. Cindy and Jackie, teenagers who had recently moved to Mesa, Arizona from Page, were last seen on July 31, 1974, near Baseline Road, approximately 3 blocks away from their home. They informed their mother that they were going to be babysitting, however, Cindy and Jackie were actually heading to a friends house for a party. It is unknown if either actually made it to the party, as some at the party that night claimed that they never arrived, while others remember seeing them there. All that is known for sure is that neither has been seen since.
With a lack of information, theories seem to take hold. Some believe that they may have run away, however, they did not take any of their personal items with them, making this seem less likely. The majority of theories point towards foul play of some sort. One of these theories points out that Cindy had been told by her father to not talk to a certain unidentified teenage boy, but she may have wanted to see him anyways. Others believe that they may have been abducted and later killed by Ted Bundy, as both Cindy and Jackie fit the profile of one of his victims; white females with long, dark hair, parted in the middle. While it’s unknown if he was in Arizona at the time they vanished, many don’t think it’s far out of the realm of possibilities. Despite efforts made by law enforcement to find the missing duo, they remain missing.
Cindy Leslie is a white female with brown hair and blue eyes, stood at 5′6″ (167 cm), weighed 109 pounds (49 kg), and wore glasses. It is unknown if she was wearing glasses when she vanished. Cindy has a mole on her outer left armpit and has pierced ears. If alive, she would be 59 years old. Jackie Leslie is a white female with brown hair and blue eyes. She stood at 5′4″ (162 cm) and weighed 110 pounds (49 kg) in 1974. Jackie has pierced ears and a mole on her right cheekbone. If alive, she would be 57 years old. Foul play is suspected in their disappearances, which remains unsolved. If you have any information that may lead to the whereabouts of Cindy or Jackie Leslie, please contact the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office at 602-256-1087.

Samuel Thompson confronts Jarred Harrel, who murdered his twin sister, Somer. On October 19th, 2009 Somer Thompson was abducted while walking home from school in Orange Park, Florida. Her body would later be found in a landfill in Georgia, over fifty miles from where she vanished. An autopsy report would show that the seven year old had been sexually assaulted before she was smothered to death. DNA left on her body would link Jarred Harrel to the crime. To avoid receiving the death penalty, Harrel pleaded guilty, and was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole. He did not make eye contact with any of Somer’s family when they spoke to him at the hearing.

In 1983, two teenage girls–Cindy Collier, 15, and Shirley Wolf, 14, met and instantly clicked while serving time in a juvenile detention center. Both were broken souls who endured years of abandonment, neglect, and sexual abuse from their fathers, and hatched a plan to escape from juvie and start a life together. Their first order of business was to somehow obtain a car. In order to get one, they had to kill someone, Cindy reasoned. Shirley coldly agreed. Once they were out of juvie, the girls dyed their hair in an attempt to disguise themselves as they hunted for their victim. They approached the home of Anna Brackett in Auburn, California, and asked if they could use her phone. The girls sat and conversed with the old lady for about an hour or so when she went up to answer a call. Once her back was turned, Shirley stabbed her several times. After she was dead, the girls grabbed the keys to Brackett’s car but it didn’t start, so they fled on foot. When the girls were separated and questioned by police, Cindy immediately came clean. In her recorded confession, she stated, ‘’ To honestly tell you the truth, we didn’t feel any badness. Then after we did it, we wanted to do another one. We just wanted to kill someone. Just for fun.’’  Both girls were sentenced to 25 years, which was the maximum. Cindy was released on parole and hasn’t had a single encounter with the law since. She currently has four children. Shirley was released a couple years later and is now trying to turn her life around, knowing she can’t change her past.

The disappearance and murder of 19 year old Amber Donna Kirwan
Amber Kirwan, a 19 year old from Pictou County, Nova Scotia, went missing on the night of October 9th 2011 after having a fun night out with friends at a Dooly’s pool hall in New Glasgow, NS. Amber walked down the road from the pool hall intending to meet her boyfriend, Mason Campbell, at a local convenience store called Big Al’s, which is just a few minutes walk from the pool hall itself. Campbell said Amber did not show up. Instead of waiting longer for his girlfriend or trying to contact her, Campbell returned back to their apartment and went to bed.
The next morning, there was still no sign of Amber. No one had heard from her, no texts, no calls, nothing. Campbell stated he had slept with both phones next to him that night waiting for Amber to reach him, and when she did not he contacted her parents through Facebook telling them she was missing.
Immediately, Amber’s parents phoned the police and told them that their daughter did not return home the night before. A search for the missing teen started in the small community, posters with Amber’s picture were placed all over town and vigils were held in hopes of her safe return.
Tumblr media
Sadly, Amber Kirwan’s case turned from a missing person investigation to a homicide on November 5th 2011 in Heathbell, Pictou County. A couple out walking their dog had stumbled upon a pair of women’s black leggings and feathered earrings, which Amber was said to be wearing the night she disappeared.
Upon a ground search investigation of the property in Heathbell, the RCMP stumbled upon a patch of ground that looked like it had been recently disturbed. This is where they found Amber, face down in a muddy, shallow grave, bound and naked.
Some clothing and multi-colored towels was found along with the body. The clothing items were a black sweater and a black and blue shirt, which were tied around Amber’s wrists along with the towels. Kirwan had stab wounds on her back, neck and shoulders and a stab wound to the heart. Several stab wounds found on her hands were inflicted with such force that one of the fingers on her left hand was almost completely severed, showing this young lady put up a great battle for her life.
Medical examiners stated she had suffered at least 10 stab wounds but that it was impossible to tell exactly how many because the wounds were so close together. The medical examiner also determined Amber had bled to death from her wounds and also stated they did not determine if she was sexually assaulted. Kirwan also had at least 10 times the normal dosage of codeine in her system, a very high amount that confirmed she had been heavily drugged.
The police had first focused their attention on Amber’s boyfriend, Mason Campbell and seized his car. They found a shovel and some duct tape in the trunk that he explained was for camping. Police dropped the investigation into Campbell after concluding nothing in the trunk was tied to Amber’s murder. A police officer said that there was so much dust collected on items inside the trunk of the car that it was obvious nothing had been moved in a very long time.
Not long after, police did a search of a mobile home close to where Amber’s body was found. The trailer home belonged to Alice Meier, who is the step-sister of 29 year old Christopher Alexander Falconer. Chris had been staying in the trailer ever since his release from prison in early 2011 for the murder and robbery of a taxi driver he committed when he was just 15 years old.
Tumblr media
Inside the mobile home RCMP seized multiple items including a piece of silver duct tape, an earring, blankets, a mattress and some towels. The towels found inside were similar in color and texture to the towels found with Amber’s body. They contained the same “Made in India” tag, had the same bar code and $2.97 price tag. A blue ink substance was found on the piece of duct tape which revealed a reverse imprint of the word “Dooly’s”, the same pool hall Amber was at the night she disappeared. Amber and her friends had each received a blue Dooly’s stamp on their hands when they paid admission. Blood evidence was also found inside the mobile home.
Next seized was Christoper Falconer’s Chevy Impala. Inside the car RCMP found a garbage bag, duct tape, scissors, a black tank top and green pill bottle containing a white, powdery substance which was later identified to be codeine, the same drug found in Amber’s system. The bloody tank top found in the back seat of Falconer’s car had both his and Amber’s DNA as well as leaves and dirt stains There was blood evidence and fingerprints on the plastic bag where the empty bottle with traces of codeine was found.
At one point Falconer told his father that he was considering pleading guilty to killing Amber months before he was even charged to “save everybody a lot of stress.”
Eventually, Falconer was charged with 1st degree murder to which he plead not guilty. But there are cell phone records that trace Falconer’s movements from downtown New Glasgow at around 1:48am about the time Kirwan went missing, to the Heathbell Road area where her body was found.
After weeks of trial and all the evidence displayed in court, it only took the jury a matter of hours to find Chris Falconer guilty of 1st degree murder. In January of 2014 he was given an automatic life sentence in prison with no parole eligibility for 25 years.
The motive for the murder is still unclear and the murder weapon has never been found. Amber Kirwan and Chris Falconer did not know each other.
Christopher Alexander Falconer still proclaims his innocence and filed an appeal to the Supreme Court Canada in 2015, which was denied.

I had to. She cheated on me; The murder of Brittany Green
On December 3rd 2010, 16 year old Melvin Skeete Jr. From Whitney Pier, NS and his 17 year old girlfriend Brittany Green from Glace Bay, NS, who were only in a relationship for four months, were spending a night together drinking and doing drugs at Skeete’s grandfather’s house. At some point in the night, Melvin became enraged with Brittany after discovering she had cheated on him and proceeded to attack her.
Skeete first bludgeoned Brittany and then stabbed her a total of 104 times and used a total of four knives, two of which broke off at the handle and were lodged in Brittany’s left side. Besides the amount of wounds sustained to her body, this shows the anger and determination Skeete had to kill Brittany as he kept retrieving more knives to continue the stabbing to make sure she was dead.
A family friend had showed up to the house to drop off some food for Melvin’s grandfather and found Melvin kneeling next to Brittany’s mutilated, blood soaked body. Shocked, the woman called the police and when they arrived on the scene told them that when Skeete saw her he just said “I had to. She cheated on me. I had to kill her.”
Minutes later, Skeete was found by police walking down a road close to the crime scene and was taken into custody. He was under the influence of prescription pills and moonshine and claims he did not remember anything from that night until he woke up in jail the next morning.
Because of his age at the time of the murder it was uncertain if Skeete would be tried as an adult or a youth offender. But due to the obvious overkill and viciousness of the attack the judge on the case decided that he should be charged as an adult.
Tumblr media
In January of 2013, Melvin Skeete Jr. was found guilty of 2nd degree murder and sentenced to life in prison. During the judge’s sentencing, Skeete who is known to have violent outbursts disrupted the court by taunting the victim’s family telling them “You guys ain’t gonna break me, I’ll still be smiling.” When being lead out of the court room he started to scream “fuck these people, man! Fuck the judge, fuck the police, and fuck the system.”
The judge described Skeete as a “very dangerous young man” and ruled that a youth sentence would not have held him accountable for the horrific crime he committed and is considered a high risk to re-offend.
Skeete automatically received credit for his time served since his arrest in 2010. He was ordered to provide a sample for the national DNA database and will have a life time weapons ban. Skeete will be eligible for parole on December 3rd, 2017.

“What are you doing!? Stop!” Man murders his wife after an argument over his online gambling debt
On the evening of December 27th 2005 in Timberlea, NS, Jason MacRae and his wife Paula Gallant, got into an argument in the basement of their home over a 700$ debt Jason owed on the couple’s VISA card due to his online gambling.
After the argument had settled, MacRae, still angry with his wife, grabbed a piece of 2X4 wood and struck Paula on the back of her head while she was working at her computer. Shocked at what had just happened, she was still able to get up and face Jason and said “What are you doing? Stop!”
Instead of stopping his attack, he then strangled Paula with both hands and to make sure she was dead he wrapped her head and face in plastic wrap and left it there for at least 20 minutes until she ultimately died of asphyxiation.
MacRae then covered Gallant with a sheet and left her body in the basement while he went upstairs to feed their daughter, who was soon to turn one year old.
After he finished feeding their daughter, MacRae left the infant in her highchair and went outside to check for possible witnesses or any neighbors around the area to ensure he wouldn’t be seen.
He then went back inside the home, put a jacket and shoes on Gallant’s body, carefully slid her out of a basement window next to the driveway and put her in the trunk of her car. MacRae covered Paula’s body with a blanket taken from an emergency kit that was inside the trunk.
He then got into the car and drove it to the parking lot of Beechville-Lakeside Timberlea Elementary School, where Paula Gallant was a Grade 3 teacher. He left the vehicle there and walked home, ran some some errands and then reported his wife missing later in the night.
Her body was discovered the next day in her locked car, laying in the fetal position under the blanket in the trunk. Her shoes were positioned next to her head and her purse and keys were in the glove compartment. She was not dressed for the type of weather that day nor was she in the same clothing that she was last seen in.
MacRae was questioned numerous times by police but always claimed that he had no knowledge of his wife’s murder, and kept his story straight that she had left at around 2pm to shop for baby diapers and never returned home.
For almost 5 years the murder of Paula Gallant went unsolved despite police and family members being suspicious of MacRae, they just did not have any concrete evidence. Paula’s family said that Jason showed almost no emotion at the time of Paula’s funeral and was very reluctant to stand by his wife’s casket during the service.
In October of 2009 in an undercover investigation known as the “Mr. Big” sting operation, an undercover officer befriended MacRae claiming to be the boss of a crime syndicate who promised he could get MacRae work if he revealed the information about his wife’s death.
Tumblr media
MacRae told the officer about how he thought about killing his wife in the past but stated he didn’t think he’d actually be able to do it.
According to the Statement of Facts Agreement that was made, Jason MacRae was quoted saying “Honestly, I had thought about it before. I didn’t think I would ever do it. Umm, then, yeah. I pretty much knew I was gonna do it when I did it,” and then proceeded to re-enact the murder for the undercover officer.
Jason MacRae was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in August of 2010 but took a plea deal of second-degree murder in Halifax’s Nova Scotia Supreme Court in March 2011. He received an automatic life sentence but will be eligible for parole in 15 years.

Dalhousie killer; The murder of Taylor Samson and time line of events
22 yr old Taylor Samson and 24 yr old William Sandeson were both students at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, during the year of 2015. Samson was studying physics and Sandeson was a med student. Somewhere along the line their paths met and unfortunately it would cost Taylor Samson his life.
on August 14th 2015, the two had been setting up a drug deal through some text messages and the two had agreed to meet up. At the meeting location Taylor gave William a sample of his marijuana to try.
Sandeson didn’t care for the sample Taylor gave him and texted him saying he wanted more because of the poor quality. Taylor agreed to address the issues Sandeson was complaining about and made plans to meet up again the following night at Sandeson’s apartment.
The next day, August 15th 2015, Sandeson told his girlfriend that he wanted her out of his apartment that evening. She wanted him to stop dealing drugs and when he asked her to leave his apartment she was under the impression he just wanted to do one last deal.
Around 10pm Taylor Samson left his Halifax apartment with a large black Dalhousie duffel bag containing the marijuana to meet up with William Sandeson. He left his keys and wallet at home and told his girlfriend that he wouldn’t be long.
William Sandeson had set up his own security cameras in and outside of the building and him and Taylor, still carrying the duffel bag, were caught on camera together that night.
Tumblr media
About half an hour later, William Sandeson’s neighbor and his friend who was with him at the time both heard a loud gunshot. Very shortly after the gunshot, Sandeson knocked on his neighbor’s door, stood there for a moment, said nothing and walked back to his apartment. The two men followed behind him and said they saw a man sitting at a kitchen table with blood running down his back, but could not see his face because his back was towards them. They claim they also saw some marijuana and money on the table and that Sandeson started to panic while trying to gather up the bloody money.
At some point, the two men walked back to the other apartment but decided to check back and looked into Sandeson’s apartment a second time. This time the body was gone but the blood and and money was still inside and this is when they decided to leave the building and attend a party they had planned on going to.
Concerned about her boyfriend because he is taking much longer than expected, Taylor’s girlfriend sends him texts and tries calling but never receives a reply.
Sandeson’s girlfriend, who left his apartment for the night, returned home not long after midnight. She noticed that there was a strong smell of cleaning solutions and when she asked about it Sandeson told her there had been a fight and he had used it to clean up some blood.
In an attempt to make it look like Taylor was a no show that night, Sandeson sent a couple of texts to Taylor’s phone, suggesting he had failed to show up to their meeting.
Tumblr media
The next day while Sandeson’s girlfriend was on Facebook she saw a missing persons post about Taylor and asked him if he was the one that was hurt in the apartment last night, to which he replied no.
The security system was cut off for some time but when it was hooked back up, it showed Sandeson making several trips up the hall, carrying different items. The camera he set up outside showed him placing the items in the trunk of a small black car. And early the next morning the cameras also showed him cleaning the trunk of his car before heading to work.
The next day Taylor was supposed to travel to Amherst, NS, to visit his mother for dinner but he never showed up. She tried to contact him many times without success, before she decided to call the police. The following day, August 16th 2015, an investigation started in the disappearance of Taylor Samson.
Also that day Sandeson sent a text to his younger brother, Adam, stating he’d be coming over to do some laundry because “there’s stuff in his basement and it smells funny.” While his bother was there, Adam noticed a black Dalhousie duffel bag containing marijuana.
After some investigating, the police brought William Sandeson into the station for questioning. At first they looked at him as a possible witness but his story kept changing and he was put on surveillance after he left that day.
The police saw this case as a large marijuana deal and feared Samson was a target of a drug rip and could be captive somewhere. When police showed up at Sandeson’s apartment looking for Taylor, there was no one home. Thinking that he could be inside, they busted the door down. There was no sign of Taylor but they did see evidence of foul play and filed for a search warrant.
Police finally find Sandeson at the home of his girlfriend’s grandmother in Dartmouth, NS, and place him under arrest for charges of kidnapping, trafficking and misleading police. He is taken to headquarters where he is interrogated. After Sandeson told the police that two masked men entered his apartment and killed Taylor and took his body out through the window he then changed his story that he knew the two men were in his apartment but only thought they were going to scare Taylor.
After so many inconsistencies during the interrogation the police finally told Sandeson they collected evidence from his apartment, including the security videos and saw what appeared to be blood stains and charged him with murder.
William Sandeson’s brother, Adam, and his roommates decided to look more in the basement as well. In addition to the Dalhousie duffel bag full of marijuana they found the day before, they also found two other containers full of drugs; one small appliance box filled with marijuana and some in a grocery bag. They then contacted a lawyer to take the evidence to the police.

Police gathered evidence, including the duffel bag, a shower curtain, a tarp, a bullet that was lodged in Sandeson’s window frame, and a handgun. There was also evidence of blood on the table and chair set along with blood spatter in the bathroom. All of these items contained the blood and DNA of Taylor Samson. The items were seized from Sandeson’s apartment in Halifax and from his family’s farm in Truro, NS.
The police believe William Sandeson lured Taylor Samson to his apartment with what he thought was a going to be a drug deal - 20 pounds of marijuana for $40,000. Sandeson was receiving pressure from his family about his spending habits and he had owed more than $70,000 to a credit company plus $10,000 in student loans. They believe he took Taylor to his apartment and shot him in the back of the head so he could take his money and then also sell the marijuana as a way to help ease his debt.

To this day, Taylor Samson’s body has not been found but despite that, in July of 2017, William Sandeson was found guilty of first degree murder and sentenced to 25 years in prison before he can be eligible for parole. During his sentencing, Samson’s family yelled at William Sandeson demanding he tell them where Taylor’s body is located. Sandeson has remained quiet and never revealed that information but the family vows to never stop looking for their loved one so they can bring him home for a proper burial.
