I still remember how everybody mocked the queerplatonic label because it was 'just being friends'. Even if you treat them as overlapping categories, considering that the umbrella of friendship goes from 'we are classmates and had coffee once' to 'I cannot imagine my life without this person in it', I cannot in good faith object to someone needing the specificity of a new term.

want to clarify that the post i rbed earlier about disliking fanon, what i have in mind isn't people making weird or hyperspecific alternate universes or anything - at least, that's personal. what i really dislike is going into the tags for something i like and knowing i'll find the same three jokes and incorrect quotes that have been used for every other fandom since the dawn of time, that's what i don't like. i would rather read an opinion of a character that i think is straight up wrong but is at least an honest expression of someone's thoughts, than the same memes i've seen thousands of times and that barely fit the character at all... and i also think jokes are too often used to not have to say anything sincere. it's embarrassing to like something earnestly but we can do it, we're strong enough, we don't need tired memes

an awesome thing happens whenever an inaccurate headcanon for a character gets any amount of traction because someone invariably without fail will take up the world's most condescending tone to say "umm actually if you think this about Character you're stupid." and their own headcanon is so clearly built on the need to be contrarian instead of rooted in the actual character that they swing in the complete opposite mischaracterization direction. fandom horseshoe theory
