zim gets easily jealous, not necessarily even about romance, but because dib is his and nobody else’s, but this rarely comes up as an issue because dib doesn’t have very many relationships outside of zim and his family (and zim understands family relationships)

zim is SUPER protective over dib because dib is much more fragile than he is, and he’s terrified of losing him no matter how much he refuses to admit it. he is consistently impressed with how easily dib gets up and shrugs off injury, but he won’t admit that either.

dib would be a horrible father if they ended up with an actual kid (which i don’t personally think they would), but gir is like his terrible robot son in the way that if someone’s legal guardian was their older sibling and their older sibling got married to this other guy and he moved in

after dib inevitably dies before zim, zim takes to space and fucks off recklessly for a while and always always ALWAYS wears dib’s jacket. he never takes it off unless he absolutely has to, and he always makes sure it stays clean and untouched by others. gir comforts him on long lonely nights

zim acts like he owns dib, but he’s only able to do that because dib wants to stay. if dib wanted to leave he could, and zim wouldn’t have the heart to hurt dib over it, even if he would be angry, and the both of them know it

zim is actually a great cook, having been banished to foodcourtia for a long time, but he really only cooks for dib

dib frequently ends arguments by picking zim up and swinging him over his shoulder like a towel and continuing on his way

neither of them really want to get married, zim doesn’t understand marriage and dib has never really actively wanted it and thinks it would be inconvenient with zim being an alien anyway, but gir is always running up to dib and telling him that he thought of a great plan on how dib should propose to zim and each time it’s more terrible and nonsensical than the last. dib always says that he’ll “think about it”.

gaz is completely unsurprised when they start publicly “dating” and prof membrane thought that they were together already

god said you WILL kin dib and then she made me rediscover iz when i was the same age as he is in the show and i was being bullied and isolated from my classmates for being “weird” and probably even “crazy” (most shit gets said behind backs where i went to school but as a loner who just sat around drawing borderline disturbing art during lunch and wore a trench coat every day and is only known relatively for being the kid of that dude who killed him self in 2011 the same weekend that other guy murdered his family, people have a certain impression of you) i didn’t even finish school for multiple reasons and one of them was that public school was essentially too dumbed down for me. i’m a fast learner and bc everything was taught for those who aren’t, i got easily and quickly bored and tended to be labeled as more intelligent than my peers if i was actually doing my work. basically episodes that take place at skool remind me so so much of my middle/high school days. it was so perfect like jhonen was just metaphorically writing about my life personally and throwing in some cartoonish exaggeration for flavor. also etf membrane is a metaphor for a homophobic dad that still loves you prove me wrong bitch. “i don’t understand you and i never will and i refuse to but i am always proud of you regardless” it was honestly a nice piece of reality. because shit is never gonna work out perfectly and no matter how hard you try how long you live many of us will never impress our fathers or live up to their expectations. but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a relationship with them
