A tip from my therapist
When you’re going through something, treat yourself as you would treat a friend going through the same thing. For example:
You feel like you’re moving on too slowly and should just be getting over it already? Would you tell a friend to get over it faster?
You want to go do something, but don’t feel like you can or think you’d be bad at it? Go try it, give yourself the encouragement and support you’d give a friend!
Think you made a bad decision? Don’t hold it over your own head, everyone makes mistakes, forgive and don’t hold a grudge with yourself, you wouldn’t hold it against your friend so don’t do it to yourself.
This has really changed my outlook. When I start thinking negative thoughts or regretting things that have happened, I need to remember that I’m supposed to be kind to myself. If I wouldn’t say it to a friend, I shouldn’t be telling it to myself. We all deserve love and kindness, and we should be making a point to give it to ourselves every chance we get 💜💜
