Greetings citizens of the Union and beings from beyond! Welcome to Union News Central, I'm your host Bluglakkag Flublabbak. Hello! And we have breaking news! We don't have all the information yet but...

Long-range sensors across the Union started flaring up, all reporting the same thing... A star in Union space went supernova. It wasn't just any system either, it was the NIL-057 system, a minor star system in between the Aidon System and the Nillor System known only for its few mining stations.

What makes NIL-057 important is that it was the current location of the Black Banner Khan's fleet. The fleet was preparing for an assault on the Nillor system, repairing their ships and stealing minerals from the local mining stations to fuel their efforts. It's believed they would have made a move on the Nillor system if the Battle of Nufef went in the Khanate's favour, but since it did not, they decided instead to wait and rally with the Twin Star Khan.

The CBI has provided us with limited sensor data leading up to the system's destruction. It's quality is quite poor and there are missing chunks of data, as it was recorded by a mining station's sensor feed, but we do have a somewhat clear picture of what happened out there.

At 31:63 Union Standard Time, an as of yet unidentified vessel appeared in the system and the Black Banner Sects moved to engage the vessel. We're unsure what happened next as the sensor feed scrambles and its internal chronometer malfunctions. The feed returns, the star has gone super nova and the Black Banner fleet has been completely destroyed, Kurualtai included, with the inner most planet and its associated mining station... get... consumed by the supernova... Oh dear...

Shortly after, a fleet of what may have been Gogan, possibly Academy ships, and the Kurualtai of the Twin Star Khan appeared in the system. The joint force attacked the unidentified vessel and by the time the supernova... dissolved... the central planets, the unidentified star-destroying vessel was destroyed.

At this point... the feed stops as the mining station was disintegrated by the supernova. We can only guess what happened to the joint attack force, but its unlikely they survived the supernova.

Naturally... travel to and through the NIL-057 system is now off-limits. As for the long-term consequences of the supernova... NIL-057 is ten light-years away from the Aidon system and fifteen light-years away from the Nillor system, meaning we have much time to prepare and minimise the disaster ahead of time. Meanwhile, be mindful when travelling through the Aidon-Nillor corridor and keep an eye on local cosmic weather reports to avoid at-risk systems.

No... no doubt you're... experiencing mixed feelings, viewers. I know I am... On one appendage, two Khanate fleets and their Khans can no longer terrorise Union citizens. On the other appendage, 3,281 Union workers were present in that system, from the miners on the stations to the crew aboard cargoships... I... I need a moment, can we cut?

Following the Armory Bolstering Order, Marshal Vakir requested independent Union industries on Vesrun Prime - Feforyana - and aboard Libertopia to begin production of civilian multitool-weapons which can be used both as weapons of self defence but will mainly be used for industrial and civil purposes.

For instance, the Feforyana-Pattern Bolt Pistol fires self-sealing bolts which could be used aboard starships to quickly patch holes in the hull, or in factories to bolt together machinery. The bolt gun has an adjustable chunk, similar to drill bits, to allow a wide variety of bolt sizes. Naturally, these can also be used by civilians in occupied territories or at home for defence.

Similarly, the Libertopia-Pattern Laspistol fires an adjustable strength laser. Unlike cheap Zangren lasweapons, the Libertopia-Pattern Laspistol is reliable and primarily functions as a civil tool for welding, mining, cutting fabrics, or on its lowest setting, scanning. Just like the Bolt Pistol, this can also be used for defence.

Both multitool-weapons require a license to own, which can be earned with safety and operational training. But don't worry, citizens, once the war is over, production of non-lethal self defence weapons will begin, along with the production of weapons for folks on the frontiers, such as hunting rif-

Ah! I have breaking news! Great news, in fact, citizens! The Battle of Nufef is over and I'm proud to announce it was a victory for PEACE! We go now to the bridge of Task Force Kon'nal over Nufef Prime to hear live from one of the heroes of the battle - Captain Zeren Ah-Thalas!

While yes, it is true that the Khanate invasion started with a string of Union defeats, together we will persevere and defeat them. The element of surprise and their swift deployment was the Khanate's best advantage. But now they're running out of steam. All thanks to the leadership of our valiant Marshal Vakir, the aid of our allies, and our brave folks in the military fighting on the front lines, we've begun to thin the enemy's numbers and turn the tide.

The public interlink was alive with disturbing news not so long ago, as word spread across the Union that the assassin and traitor Zolisa Ah-Shasad escaped Union custody. Ever since she killed our beloved MP Gloglogagg Klaglugoo, Ugluks across the Union have struggled with grief from the loss.

But the hands of our engineers have been anything but idle. In the face of the war, and now the loss of our MP, Ugluks everywhere have been pulling their weight. Previously Ugluks were denied access to enlist in the IUCCM, but with the news of our MP's death, our leading engineers invited Marshal Vakir a demonstration. Upon seeing what we're capable of first-hand, the Marshal approved the creation of the UMC, the Ugluk Mech Corps.

Since then, Ugluks engineers have been given the green light and joined on-mass to aid in the efforts to mass-produce mechs for the war effort, and many volunteer pilots have stepped forward to ride these mechs into battle when the time comes and in the meantime, train.

Though I hope I never see battle, I would love to ride some of the mechs produced, it certainly looks cathartic to stomp around in a giant mech or to fly like a shooting star!

Another executive order passed by Marshal Vakir was the Armory Bolstering Order, all citizens are required to hand in any military-grade weaponry in their possession so that the weapons may be redistributed throughout our armed forces.

I confronted the MPs about their actions and fortunately, most came to their senses, admitted to their behaviour, and for the protection of the Union, handed over their authority to the military. Effectively, stepping down.

Starting off with everyone's largest concerns, the fate of the refugees and the citizens in Khanate occupied territories. In times of war, there are few things that lift the spirits, but the efforts of our PEACE comrades and friends in the Galactic Community, the lives of hundreds of thousands of refugees are now at least a little bit safer. Escorted out of the conflict zones, and bound to new worlds with homes and welcoming communities awaiting them. Though nothing can give back what was taken, the Union is dedicated to righting these wrongs.

However, we have received a disturbing report that the occupied territories are required to pay the Khans a "tithe of levies", meaning that everyday civilians are being conscripted into service aboard Khanate vessels. It effectively means our people are being held hostage aboard Khanate ships and forced to fight against us. As you can imagine, dear friends... this is an ethical problem in more ways than one.

We go now to ex-MP Martial Sher An-Zecetesh, who is willing to speak to to UNC about the recent battles going on across Union Space. Martial Sher?

"Greetings, comrade Bluglakkag. Unfortunately the state of the war is not what we'd like to see, the contemptable Khans have all but taken the Northern Quadrant, as well as portions of the Western Quadrant. The most recent battles, The Battle of the Aidon System and the Battle of the Sheng System both ended in a Union defeat. But the worst of these was in Aidon."

What exactly happened there, Martial Sher?

"You'll understand I can't share the specifics of the weapons or tactics used or the finer details for the sake of the IUCCM and our allies. But I will share what I can. The battle started off with three Interstellar Guard fleets and the local star base under assault by two Twin Star Sects - Sects is what the Khans call their fleets - and four Black Banner Sects. Our allies in PEACE, the @vegvasignal, the @elepharchy, and the Bzadi arrived in the system to assist and rescue our diligent fleets. Most of the Sects ignored our allies, initially, choosing instead to continue engaging our fleets. One Sect, however, split to engage SMOOCH, though they would eventually find themselves in an Elepharchic trap from which they could not escape. Meanwhile, our Vegvian allies used their unique talents to impede the Sects and strengthen their allies made efficient use of their artillery to bombard the foes from a distance. Then of course, our Bzadi allies, who were undetected by the Sects and moved into a strategic position to surprise the enemy with a full weapon assault."

It sounds like it started well, sir.

"Indeed, and it continued to go well as the battle continued, piece by piece our fleets and those of our allies were able to whittle down the shields of multiple Khanate Sects, until the point where one fled combat and another initiated a self-destructive ramming action against a fleet of ours. There were survivors of that reckless and frankly insane action, but enough fell that the fleet in question had no choice but to retreat. At this point, the Sects had all received some damage, ranging from severe to minor, whilst our allies had taken little from their assaults. I can confidently say that if the battle had continued like this, it would have been a PEACE victory."

What changed, Martial Sher, sir?

Martial Sher An-Zecetesh turned to the camera and flicked her fins.

"The Pact. I can confirm that three fleets of Argent Pact design appeared in the system and immediately engaged the remaining Union fleets and one of our Vegvian allies at their flanks. One of our fleets was destroyed in this surprise attack, and the other was forced into stealth. The balance of power drastically shifted and a full retreat was in order."

Oh my! What has the Galactic Community said about this, sir?

"The report just came in moments ago. Parliament's been informed and likely considering what instructions to give to our representative of the GUN before informing them, as it seems that the Pact has declared war on us."

Then... are you currently violating protocol?

"Yes, I am. And I don't care. The people should know the facts. Know that the Parliament has been holding the military back! We could be fighting harder! But instead our best assets ar-"

Our contacts in the navy report that the Union has entered a state of emergency, with hostile vessels crossing into our space in the Qeng System, Neseth System, Zang System, and Loth System at this time. Though there may be more intrusions we're unaware of here at UNC, as the navy is tightening its grip on the control of information.

The identity of these attackers is still mostly unknown, though preliminary data suggests they may be of one of the ex-Khanate remnants.

The Fefing khan raids have lessened in frequency and severity as the success of Project Integration and Emancipation is beginning to show results.

Though the Fefings were hesitant to trust us, they quickly learned that we hold no grudges against them and their past. However, despite much of what we've offered them, they've been very resistant to give up on their warrior culture.

But with the help of our comrades in PEACE, we've been able educate them, reform them, and provide them with virtual escapism to fulfil their more violent tendencies. There's still a long way to go, but they know that the social safety net is strong, that they never have to worry about scrambling for resources ever again. And that's a start.
