My Final Design Boards
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These are my final 4 design boards for my collection “Freedom”. For the background I created these floral line drawings using a black and white colour scheme as I felt my designs were quite chaotic and colourful so I wanted something to contrast with this. As well as this I layered some vintage wallpaper in which I cut these swirls out of, over the top to add a bit more of a vintage feel to it and some texture. By slightly changing the place of the green swirls and illustrating different flowers on each page it creates a more diverse look however all still linking together. In conclusion, I really like the outcome of my 12 piece collection and think the background compliments my illustrations nicely as well as not looking too overpowering and chaotic.

Design Board Layout Ideas
Here I have tried experimenting with different background and layout ideas for my final design boards. As my designs are quite large and OTT I've tested out having 3 designs per board rather than four so you can see the designs a bit better however I think I prefer them with 4 illustrations as I feel their is less blank space where as with 3 it looks a bit unfinished.
Idea 1
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
For this layout I photocopied my SS24 trends page in my sketchbook as I felt the pastel colour scheme matched very well my designs and theme of the collection. I paired this with some line drawings I had drawn as backgrounds in my sketchbook as I liked the sketchy feel and how the black and white colour scheme went with my designs.
Idea 2
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here I got rid of the pastel strips and used just the sketches as I felt my first idea was a bit chaotic however now I feel this is to basic and needs something else to add some depth and detail. Therefore I tried to add some strips of pastel coloured card to apply some colour but also not to overpowering as shown below.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Idea 3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For this idea I wanted to show the contrast between the joy and happiness of my designs with the reality of the Victorian era therefore I used my mourning period mood board as the background however I felt it was too dark and obnoxious therefore on the left image I layered a sheet of tissue paper over the top so it does not look as dark in which I quite like however I feel it would look better with 4 illustrations rather than 3.
Idea 4
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When I presented some of my initial illustrations I drew some sketchy line drawings for the background, I really liked how these turned out so here I have done some digital designs where I have put some line drawing for the background in which I feel contrast nicely with my designs however I feel their still needs to be a bit more depth and layering.
Press Release Design Idea
Tumblr media
Here I have designed a layout for my press release in which will connect with the rest of my boards. Similar to my last idea I drew a floral line drawing for the background and placed these textured swirls I had cut out of vintage wallpapers on top. I really like how this design turned out and I think this is the idea I would like to develop on for my final boards.

Commercial Plan
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here I have done a quick plan for my commercial to help me decide on the layout and how the commercial will fit together. From here I need to decide on a song so my clips can fit to the beat as I feel this will work really nicely together and create a more cohesive commercial.

Pattern Cutting - Peplum Top
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
For Unit 2 pattern cutting we were tasked to create a peplum top  independently with only our toile and method of construction to refer to. I really enjoyed this process of working independently and figuring things out by myself whilst also developing my sewing skills in the process. Overall, I am happy with my final garment and how it turned out however there are a few things that did not go exactly to plan, and I would like to improve upon in the future. Firstly, the seams on the side of the top and peplum do not match up perfectly in which after trying to figure out why this had happened as it lined up perfectly at the front, I realized I must have not done exactly 1cm seam allowances or my pattern pieces were slightly of meaning the end product did not look as polished as it should have been. As well as this I usually struggle with getting my top stitching to be perfectly straight however, I feel I have improved on this, and they have turned out a lot better this time around. Finally, when marking on the placement of the buttons and button holes using tailors chalk I initially started using pink although unfortunately it left a slight stain on my garment meaning it does not look as tidy and polished as it should do. Furthermore, when doing my lay plan, I found I used quite a significant amount of fabric meaning the overall cost of my garment was a lot higher therefore for future projects I would like to practice my lay planning as I feel it is an area I need to improve on to therefore develop my overall pattern cutting skill set. In conclusion I am proud of how my final piece turned out and thoroughly enjoyed the process.

Final Design - Design 12
Tumblr media
This is my last final design for my Victorian inspired collection "Freedom". For this design I took inspiration from Victorian lighting. I wanted to take a much more literal approach to this design process, therefore I have basically turned this design into a lamp. Although it is quite basic I love the outcome of it and how it creates such a unique silhouette. I wanted to make the top of the design slightly see-through creating this frosted effect and adding a bit more of a modern twist to the design. Furthermore, for the colour scheme, once again sticking with the pastel pallete I combined pastel pink with this mint green colour in which I think compliment each other very nicely and create this bright and colourful design. Linking in with my SS24 trend XL Shoulders, the silhouette featured a heavy top contrasted by flared trousers detailed with a ribbed effect to add some more detail, I also added a small bow around the neck to link to my SS24 trend of bows and add a bit more of a feminine touch to the illustration. In conclusion, I really like the overall effect of this design and how it all fits together so nicely, as well as this by the use of trousers it shows this idea of breaking free as during the Victorian Era it was frowned upon for women to wear such things therefore just by adding trousers to my design shows how my collection took revenge on the Victorian Era.

Final Design - Design 11
Tumblr media
This is the eleventh of my final designs for my Victorian inspired collection "Freedom". For this design I took inspiration from Victorian fashion and the mourning period. The idea for this design came from the restrictive corsetry of the period and the pain it caused for women of the time. To show this I started with a classic victorian corset however to show the amount of pain it puts on the body I wanted to show the intestines spilling out of the body, however to make this less gruesome and put a more fun twist on it, I made the intestines pink and fluffy to lighten the feel. As well as this to link into the mourning period I added these chain like links going down the side of the leg and arm further adding to this idea of being trapped to the rules of the period. Finally by adding the massive tissue paper bow in which I created this gold marble effect onto to link to design 7 it also linked with the SS24 trend I researched of bows. Furthermore by adding this asymmetrical design and a form of trousers it helps contrast with the typical clothing of the period and add a bit more dimension to my design. In conclusion, I believe this design really helps describe the pain and restraint of the period showing how my designs are exploring the escape from that world and the joy without it.

Final Design - Design 10
Tumblr media
This is my tenth final design for my Victorian inspired collection "Freedom". For this design I took inspiration from Impressionism and the mourning period. I wanted to add this large chain going around the neck to symbolise the restraint of Victorian England, however to show this sign of freedom and breaking free I made the chains look like they where breaking and flowers were growing out of theme creating this feeling of release and joy. As well as this the flowers also link in with the Impressionism movement through their consistent use of florals. Furthermore, to link in with the SS24 trend mesh frills and the constant presence of layered fabric and frills in victorian fashion I made a simplistic tiered mini dress to contrast with the dramatic chain. For my colours I decided to use two shades of purple to create a monochromatic look whilst also adding a bit of depth and a more unique element in comparison to my other designs. In conclusion, I felt this design portrayed exactly the aesthetic I was going for whilst also clearly stating the theme of my collection.

Final Design - Design 9
Tumblr media
This is the ninth final design for my Victorian inspired collection "Freedom". For this design I took inspiration from victorian fashion and Impressionism. As we know Victorian Fashion mainly consisted of these large ball gown dresses therefore for this design I wanted to stick to the typical fashions of the era however add a more modern twist to it. To link it in more with the theme of my collection I made the top more revealing so you can see the mid riff which would not have been acceptable during the period. In addition to this I wanted to add a lighter feel to the design rather than the typical heavy and restrictive dresses worn in the Victorian Era, I did this by adding the floaty sleeves which I feel creates a more delicate look. Furthermore similar to design 4 and 6 I covered the dress in purple and pink floral appliqué to link in with my SS24 trend of monochromatic floral appliqué and link with impressionism in which features a large number of floral paintings. For my colour scheme I decided on pastel pink and purple to link with the colours in my other design and I also felt it helped to make the dress look lighter and flowing. In conclusion, I really like the outcome of this design as I think it compliments my collection nicely and by adding a more simplistic design it creates the contrast which works really well.

Final Design - Design 8
Tumblr media
This is my eighth final design for my Victorian inspired collection "Freedom". For this design I took inspiration from victorian lighting, victorian fashion and the mourning period. For the top of the design I took inspiration from the iconic victorian corset however rather than just doing a basic corset I wanted to combine it with the shape of a victorian umbrella in which many woman of the time would pair with their outfits. To go with this I chose to have some basic trousers as I felt the top was already quite busy. For the lines coming out the head and bottom of the trousers I took inspiration from the beads on victorian lamps to create these ray like shapes shooting out from the top and bottom of my design to balance it out and add the more unique element. In addition, one of my SS24 trends I researched was XL shoulders in which I have added into the design as well as the colour green in which was another of my trends, developing on this I paired the green with gold and yellow alternating between the colours on the top to form a more textured and diverse design. For the beads I wanted to use a variety of colour to match with design 7 and add a bit more colour to the design to really make the beads pop. In conclusion, I really like the outcome of this design along with this feeling of hope created by the rays of beads linking in with the theme of my collection.

Final Design - Design 7
Tumblr media
This is my seventh final design for my Victorian inspired collection "Freedom". For this design I took inspiration from Victorian lighting. The shape and flow of the design mimics a ray of light in which is associated with lighting, as well as this I have included the beads holding the garment to the body similar to the beads that as are seen around the edges of victorian lamps. For the colours I created this gold marble effect on tissue paper for the main fabric in which I added a gold border to look like there was a layer of gold fabric underneath which is peaking out around the edges. In addition, I made the beads multicolour to link in with the pastel theme as well as adding a bit of colour and detail to the design. Furthermore, with this silhouette in which is very free and flowing it creates this feeling of liberation and freedom further linking with the theme of my collection and showing a bit more diversity.

Final Design - Design 6
Tumblr media
This is the sixth final designs for my Victorian inspired collection "Freedom". For this design I took inspiration from Impressionism once again linking with the floral idea commonly connected with the movement. I used floral appliqué like in my SS24 trends "monochromatic floral appliqué" for the corset like bodice using a variety of pastel pro-markers. I then created these petals out of tissue paper in which I painted around the edges with gold to add definition to the design and to link in with the gold theme throughout my collection, in addition the petals not only link with the petals of flowers in impressionism they also kind of link with the SS24 trend "mesh frills" as they create this layered and frilled texture similar to those I researched. I much prefer this thin gold outline to the thicker one in my second draft as it looks a lot more elegant and ties the design in a lot nicer. Furthermore I added some simple bows to the back of the shoes in gold to link with the SS24 trend "bows" I also researched. In conclusion, I believe this design came together very nicely and although I am bot a huge fan of collage I believe it came together well and created this texture and see through feel I wouldn't have been able to achiever otherwise. Finally, this design unlike many of my others captures the typical silhouette of victorian dresses which I believe helps to identify the collection as being inspired by the victorian era.

Final Design - Design 5
Tumblr media
This is my fifth final designs for my Victorian inspired collection "Freedom". For this design I took inspiration from crinoline in which was a huge part of victorian fashion. Crinoline is a stiff, structured petticoat designed to add volume to women skirts, highly popular throughout the 19th century. They were known to be heavy and restricting along with all the other undergarments women of the period were forced to wear, therefore in this design I have used the structure and material of crinoline to create puff sleeves and domed hood. This creates a restricted and conformed essence to the garment however this is contrasted by the other revealing aspects of the design which would have been considered highly forbidden in Victorian Society such as the mid riff, under boob and leg slit. By doing this I wanted to show how my collection is breaking free from the pain and suffering woman of the time had to endure and the power they deserved whilst also creating a more sexy feel to my collection. Furthermore, linking in with the pastel theme I chose pastel purple for the main colour of the design as I thought it reinforced this power I want my design to show as well as complimenting nicely with gold used for the "crinoline". In conclusion, although this design is a little more simpler than my other designs, I feel it links perfectly with the theme as well as also complimenting my other designs by adding this balance and therefore creating a unique and different collection.

Final Design - Design 4
Tumblr media
This is the fourth final designs for my Victorian inspired collection "Freedom". For this design I took inspiration from the mourning period and impressionism two polar opposite sides of the period to create a unique and interesting design. For the main dress I took a modern style line and paired this with these blue and green floral appliqué inspired by the flowers in impressionism, as well as this one of my SS24 trends was monochromatic floral appliqué and although this is not monochromatic I believe the floral appliqué creates this unique texture and sense of elegance contrasting with the chains of the necklaces. The gold chains where then inspired by a particular necklace worn in the mourning period shown on my mood board however by changing the colour from black to gold it lightens the design giving it a more pleasant feel, however with this the use of chains still creates this imprisoned feeling although the blossoming flowers and vibrant colours add this well needed source of life shown throughout my collection.

Final Design - Design 3
Tumblr media
This is my third final designs for my Victorian inspired collection "Freedom". For this design I took inspiration from Impressionism which is a huge art movement created in the victorian period described as featuring "small, visible brushstrokes that offer the bare impression of form, unblended colour and an emphasis on the accurate depiction of natural light". From there I looked into "The Starry Nights" painting by Vincent Van Gough exploring a swirly background that I really liked. I used these swirls to create this abstract design where we see them shooting of the body, using a variety of different pro-markers and colouring pencils I created the pastel multi coloured designs paired this with a green body to link in with my SS24 trend I researched being that green seamed to be a very popular colour this season and paired very nicely with the rainbow swirls. To then fit with this present theme of gold we see throughout the collection I added these funky little gold pom pom like objects as bra cups adding this fun and exciting element to the design. Furthermore, as well as linking with the theme impressionism, the swirls also represent freedom and create this sense of relief further embodying this theme of freedom.
