Natural Girls take Advantage of Weave Too!
Protective styles like weaves are great for most hair types. This is especially true when the weather is cold like during Hurricane Sandy (yikes!). Other times a weave may be the best hairstyle while on a vacation or when you'd just like to let your hair have a vacation from alot of brushing/styling etc. When getting a weave make sure whomever does the braiding does a neat/not-super-tight job like I did below. People like think the tighter the braids the longer the weave lasts, however having bumps along the hairline is not cute! Plus it shouldn't be in there too long either.

Finally, try purchasing hair that is very close to your natural hair patter like my girl did! This will be updated with reliable site info for purchasing good hair extensions that resemble natural curls.

All in a Day’s (more like 2 days) Work
Brooklyn's all microbraided up, and showing off the versatility of the hairstyle (work, play, gym, and red carpets). A love/hate relationship exists between myself and braids. I love the look, not having to worry about any tracks showing, and that I don't really have to mess with my own hair. The hate is in the time it takes to get them in (both as a client and doing the braiding) as well as take out. Braids can also be very damaging to hairs along the hairline. Embarrassing doesn't being to describe who you feel when goodness forbid, one slips out and lands on the ground behind you. Personally, I don't get my hair braided often and would suggest telling your stylist not to braid too tight and not to get them too small!

Trending for Fall/Winter 2012: High Buns
The high bun is classy, chic, and highlights all your best features. No matter your hair type this suits every woman and every wallet. Its also great because as the women below show, it can be personalized by adding blunt bangs or side sweeps, having braids, highlights etc. Make it messy, or make it sleek. The beauty is that it can be rocked while donning haute couture on a red carpet, or naute couture in the aisles of a grocery store. This style easily goes from work to play!

DIY High Bun What you'll need:
brush/comb (for any parting)
pomade to hold down any flyaway hairs along the side or back
bobby pins
elastic hair band (2 if you have braids, loads of curls or extra thick hair)
assistance (as I like to call it) AKA weave, for a fuller look
hair donut for giving you the perfect round bun
some leave in conditioner! use your discretion, not too much ladies!
Tips for those with thicker curlier textures:
make a halo (leave your hair out all along the perimeter of your head) about an 1 from your hairline to the middle of your head.
with the hair in the middle make a nice tight high ponytail (not too tight!)
take hair left out and slick it down using conditioner and hair pomade, using a brush smooth the hair up into the high ponytail in step 2.
proceed to put donut over ponytail and pull hair through.
add more conditioner (if needed to make your hair more malleable) and brush hair over donut, start covering the donut all around and pin as needed.

Skeptic Turned Model
Some of my favs! Installed...cut...styled...by yours truly! It only took one shot for me to "prove" myself before she stopped going to a traditional hair salon....that was 3 years ago! Gotta love those that love KBs (kitchen beauticians)!

Prom Queen

Whether she won or not, was even in contention for the title of Prom Queen...I haven't the slightest idea. BUT, what I do know is that once her hair was out of those pins (right) and she saw the finished product (left) she felt like a Queen.

Humble Beginnings
Barbie lol...this is what started it all. I was told I learned to braid at 3 yrs old! I was always fascinated with hair, its feel, the techniques I watched and mimicked (on anyone willing to let me mess with their tresses and that they now pay me for). I'm a kitchen beautician with a love for styling the hair of others, and trying to keep hair healthy above all else.

#teamrelaxed or #teamnatural product reveiw

Meet my FAB FOUR. These products are awesome, your hair is left feeling softer and manageable immediately, and they smell fantastic!
(from left to right)
L'Oreal EverCreme Intense Nourishing Conditioner about $6 Most Drug Stores & Walmart/Target Stores
Shea Moisture Retention Shampoo $9.99 Target Stores
Shea Moisture Restorative Conditioner $9.99 Target Stores
Neutrogena Triple Moisture Silk Touch Leave-In Conditioner $7.99 Rite Aid (I don't know why this is a Rite Aid "exclusive" but that seems to be the only place where I can find it.)
I like the L'Oreal product for co-washes. The Shea Moisture Products I like because they are good for color treated/damaged hair. To me, even if your hair is healthy there is no harm in using a shampoo/conditioner that is designed to be gentle on color treated tresses. Neutrogena's leave in conditioner is a fantastic product because its light and doesn't weigh your hair down.
