sketches of hands/life drawing - This page was completed during the very beginning of year 12, as you can see i was trying to get a feel of hand proportions and shapes.

These 3 artworks are all extensions of each other. The collage at the very top of this post was created using all different kinds of magazines; lifestyle, geographical and home. My objective here was to create an underground world in the sea, i thought that this idea was interesting so I wanted to experiment with it further by using different mediums. Such as, using smooth crayons instead of magazine cut outs to give it a child like feel or using markers and Posca Pens to layer over the original collage to see what that would look like. I really enjoy the playful and colourful style which you will soon come to understand as you look through my other works.

The characters on this page were inspired by the artist Jon Burgerman (some of his works are shown on the bottom left hand side for reference). At this point in my project i was starting to get a feel of what my theme was gonna be and what kinds of artworks i wanted to create - characters. Many of my initial character developments and experiments was created using Posca Pens as i thought those were easy enough to use to help me fully understand the fundamentals of what makes a character 'pop'. Such as; colour, how thick and thin some lines should be etc. before i moved onto more experimental mediums.

This is my Year 12 Final piece completed using Posca pens on A1 paper. I essentially added all my characters together that i developed overtime in my sketchbook - filling up the entirety of the page. My aim was to make it look really compressed, colourful and cartoony with bold colours (thus the use of posca pens).

I was intrigued by the old surrealist technique decalcomania (specifically ink decalcomania) for a while before i decided to experiment with it here. My objective in this project was to find a way to combine modern visual imagery (this being the cartoony characters) with more traditional ones, which is where the decalcomania technique comes in. Right hand side shown the end results.
On the left hand side, towards the bottom, you will find artworks from famous surrealists such as Andre Breton that i used as inspiration to create this piece.

After that experimenting i came to the realisation that i really enjoyed the end result and decided to pursue this path further and see how far i could take it. I started creating ink patters using the decalcomania technique on big A2 pieces of paper. And as final touches i added the characters on top using a thick, black posca pen. I was happy with the results and tried to move onto canvas - the post on the bottom with orange ink - i also liked the effect it created on the canvas however the ink 'swirls' got lost and blurred into each other. Thus i decided to make an animation using these inked papers instead.
