three classic childrens movies with books that are 100x better and are interesting to analyse as an adult: the Last Unicorn, The Neverending Story, the Princess Bride
#Last Unicorn is one of my favourite books i didnt even watch the movie until i read it in 20s#the language and weird fluidity of time is fascinating and its an amazing essay on female rights from a man bizarrely#Neverending Story movie ends halfway through the novel and the novel is a full childs moral on the consequences of power#Princess Bride is the more teen of these and well i just love it tone down the woman hating but otherwise perfect and the book#has those meta commentaries and notetaking from the author with more detail#i love childrens books sometimes because you can see what the grown adults were getting at and trying to impart#i love these three films dont get me wrong but theyre the more spectacle

How did we end up in a world where the most basic, boring, blatant sexism (female with short hair = not woman) is seen as progressive

Been reading “The Never Ending Story” for the first time, and came to the chapter of Atreyu finally encountering his pursuer, the planes-walking werewolf Gmork. I remembered seeing the film several years ago, and loving the horror element to their interpretation of the monster, but the scene in the book had so much more impact! Just the emotional vibes of a lost kid in an abandoned, gothic city watching a monster slowing starving to death while it assaults him with bone-chilling existential horror will be burned into my memory for a lifetime!
