You did such a great job of highlighting Tysess' guilt over being the one who unintentionally activated the Starfleet-destroying virus in your "Body Language" series. But I also wonder how scared he was when the UT went down and he couldn't understand anyone. "Prodigy" did such a great job of highlighting, since the first episode, just how vital the UT is, and how this singular device is the thing that keeps Starfleet/the Federation from falling apart, and it's the thing that unites so many people and cultures. I know in your story, Tysess eventually learns English/Standard so he can connect with Opheila and her family more.....but I also wonder if he actually started learning much earlier than that. Suddenly not being able to understand all the people I normally talk to would F-me up emotionally for sure. No doubt he'd want to be prepared and never want to be rendered so helpless ever again.

And yes, I definetly agree with you there. I believe that this could've or should've been like a key moment for him to realise that he should start learning it. It doesn't need to be perfect, but at least should cover enough language knowledge so he could communicate with his other crew members in case of emergency. It would be actually quite interesting to dive deeper into such a topic in general, how th UT works and maybe limits its users, especially on a starship...

every time I see posts about nutrek that laud Lower Decks as the only good nutrek, I want to cry a little, because what about PRODIGY!!!! Star Trek Prodigy is SO good and nobody gives it a fucking chance!! Yes, I know it's a "kids show", but this is Tumblr, and considering all the love AtLA an Gravity Falls and The Owl House get, you'd think people wouldn't be weird about that.

Finished watching Prodigy not too long ago, and that scene where Rok Tok hands the Bribble off to Tysess lives in my head, rent free. I think it lends credence to the headcanon that Tysess is a softy underneath, as he never showed any annoyance towards the Protostar kids, was ready to lay down his life for Ma'jel, and put up zero fuss about pet sitting for Rok Tok. (Also find it noteworthy that he fully stood up to address Rok and didn't just stay seated at his console--it felt like he was acknowledging her as an equal, at least to me.) Now I wonder if he took the Bribble back to his quarters or if it just hung out with him at his station. Either way, there's a fun side story to be had here.

I feel like in a better universe, instead of people talking about their Hogwarts houses, they’d talk about which of the 4 founding Federation members they like best or most identify with. I suppose it could still happen. I could see Tellarites replacing Gryffindor, Humans replacing Hufflepuff, Vulcans replacing Ravenclaw, and Andorians replacing Slytherin.
