WE FINALLY HAVE A TRAILER OMFG. in the last post i wished to have a trailer and its been a month since its release, i was waiting for lazygirltranslations to catch up more chapters as well.

Already said my thoughts on the trailer on a previous post but just adding in: i think drama xiao jue will be more soft towards he yan than novel xiao jue (who becomes soft mostly after their engagement) but this was expected and if you like me saw the reuters you know the bantering is very much present in their scenes. Thus from now on and if we get new trailers i will also be comparing it to the novel.

Chapter 221: He Rufei is actually so arrogant like he is truly aware he is no match for He Yan, his dad is literally a puppet and He Yans father is a weak pathetic man. I kinda guessed since they removed the 2nd life family and Xu Zhiheng they would have to highlight He Rufei as the enemy and its exactly what they portrayed on the trailer even altering her death a little bit (from blinded, poisoned and beaten w sticks them drowned to blinded, poisoned, a sword from the back and then the drowning in the drama).

From the drama we have seen that Song Taotao will be w Cheng Lisu whos novel Cheng Lisu and Lin Shuanghe merged in one and not He Yans brother like in the novel.

LOTFG TRAILER THOUGHTS

Finally Tencent gave us crumbs (airing date projected to 2025 so hopefully on Q1) and after watching 34032940249 times i have to speak about it:

First of all we already knew from the filming spoilers that they would have to change the novel a bit to pass censorship but it's still so loyal? In this first trailer they focused on who He Yan was, her military merits, her death, her "rebirth" and the fact Xiao Jue will be at her side. I think on the next trailers we will meet the other characters and more about XJ as well but i found it really on point that they focused on her (cause it's called Legend of the FEMALE General for a reason).

I'm obsessed with the way they mostly highlighted Xiao Jue's encouraging words to He Yan like "You are General Feihong, you must spread your wings and soar ", and "He Yan no matter how many storms lie ahead i will always believe in you", cause these mostly are coming after XJ figures out who she was not in the novel and before that just like the novel despite intrigued he always has a frown towards her and snarky remarks because he isn't sure about her identity and intentions.

I'm very ok with the highligh He Rufei has (and Bai Shu as him is perfect) because in the novel he was a coward sending other people to get rid of her in the darkness yet in the drama he directly tells her she needs to die but still gets someone else to do it.

Obviously is a slowbrun so it will take time but also i feel like XJ drama version will be more open about his feelings towards her, his confessions in the novel are alike his quiet and direct nature.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED all the fight scenes, her with the whip, with the swords and them together on the battlefield plus i'm even more happy that they will show He Yan as commander of FuYe army which is something we only know about because of her flashbacks in the novel but nothing too descriptive in depth, which will be amazing for her drama character construction.

And i'm back with more chapters, they are starting to release content from the drama so it feels closer.

Chapters 101-120.

So far we have seen a bit of how He Yan's life was, Xiao Jue discovered she is a woman and now they second chance really starts. I think the chapters ahead are some of my favorites bc we are also introduced to Lin Shuanghe (sadly his character gor cut in the drama adaptation and aparently Song Taotao and Cheng Lisu will represent his role.

Quote Chapter 101: “It’s special because… I know the Commander has a small red birthmark about an inch above your waist.”  SHE SAW EVERYTHING OMFG

In this novel in general we get to see the cruelty humans can reach. QSCK makes sure to highlight womens suffering by the hands of the men which is nothing more than reality, that is the scariest and saddest part.

Chapter 105: THE DAMN HOT SPRING LMFAAOOOOOO. This scene will be in the drama

In the next chapters Xiao Jue goes on a trip and He Yan is left alone to deal w a spy on the camp. i love how shr immediately knew there was something wrong with him. Also Shen Muxue, we will see ahead her reap intentions and while i don't think she was entirely evil i think the drama adaptation will make her way worse 😭.

Quote Chapter 111: “Sure,” Wala sneered. “But are you sure you don’t want to switch to a sword or a blade? A whip won’t kill anyone.”

The young man’s lips curved slightly. “To kill you, this will be enough.” YAN YAN SO FCKING COOL.

In the following chapters we also see a bit of Xiao Jue's past when his parents died and he took over the General position, it is honestly sad and helps to understand his character a bit more too.

Chapter 118: "Xiao Jue turned away, leaned slightly forward, and looked down at her, a faint smile playing on his lips. “Miss He is quite knowledgeable in military strategy. It’s a pity not to become a general.”

Xiao Jue had good judgment in this regard. He Yan nodded and said, “I also feel that way. I believe I’m naturally suited to be a general. Sometimes, I even think that I was a female general in my past life.”

Xiao Jue: “…..”

“You don’t believe it?” He Yan poked a hole in the snow with her stick. “Or do you think that women shouldn’t be generals?”

Chu Zhao is officially introduced in this chapter although we saw him in the early chapters. In the novel he does pose some threat to Xiao Jue but in the drama by the stills ive seen so far (June 2024) it will be WAY worse. JEALOUS XIAO JUE TEHEHEHEHE

Quote Chapter 120: "Seeing that Xiao Jue remained unfazed, Lin Shuanghe continued from another angle. “On a personal level, how could you let your girl go to drink with another man?”

Xiao Jue paused in his actions, raised his head, and gave Lin Shuanghe a cold look. “Who told you she’s mine?”

Chapters 81-100.

Chapter 81: The flag capture event in the mountain, He Yan is so cool.

Quote Chapter 81: "Xiao Jue chuckled softly, neither confirming nor denying, “It’s not just their individual abilities that make the difference; it’s because of He Yan’s formations. A team with a well-structured formation can’t be compared to a group of scattered soldiers.” We get it brother!

Quote Chapter 81: “You make a valid point,” He Yan nodded. “So, the confrontation at the foot of the mountain won’t be easy. But it’s alright. We’re sure to win.”

“Why?” Wang Ba asked.

Chapter 82: LEI HOU. He Yan almost immediately figuring there was smt wrong w him and thats on a woman instinct.

In these chapters in general we get to see He Yan and the Liangzhou recruits friendship bonding, even Wang Ba whos a bandit and rude cant help but admire her.

In the next chapters we are introduced to Song Tao Tao who will be (DRAMA SPOILER) Cheng Lisus partner. Also Xiao Jue makes some interesting discoveries.

Chapters 61-80.

Chapter 61 - 70: He Yan keeps building her name as a skilled soldier in the Liangzhou Garrison, she makes friends but earns the interest and suspicion of Xiao Jue. He Yan uses her past knowledge of battlefield to improve, in these chapter the wolf fight is the most important.

Quote Chapter 70: "She and this wolf were so alike, both left at the mercy of others after losing their sight. Now, witnessing the pitiful death of the wolf she had killed, even though she was the one responsible, memories of the past resurfaced. She felt utterly exhausted and powerless to do anything more".

Chapters 71-80: Things start to get really interesting, Xiao Jue does suspect her identity over the amount of things she knows as a "young man". One of the most heartbreaking moments of the novel happen here during the mid autumn festival, its not rly a moment but rather a glimpse of He Yans sorrows. We also get a different view of Xiao Jue, seen by He Yan when he comes to pick her up from the wolf trap and as well as Cheng Lisu telling her how his uncle is quite kind hearted and caring despite his cold demeanor.

Quote Chapter 73: " His most striking feature was his eyes—clear and cool like autumn water. They seemed as though they had never reflected anything in the world. One couldn’t help but wonder what kind of tenderness would fill them if they were to gaze earnestly upon someone". we will talk again on chapter 200 on He Yan lol

Quote Chapter 78: “I’m sorry,” she murmured softly, full of sorrow. “We, mother and child, have no fate in this lifetime. If there’s a next life, I hope you’ll be born into a good family, a life filled with joy and free of worries. Please, never encounter me again.”“I will…” She placed the water lantern into the river. “Seek revenge for you.” He Yan, you better than anyone knows that fate is fleeting 🥲

Quote Chapter 79: "Xiao Jue was too proud. He did these things quietly, like a gentle and continuous spring rain, nurturing silently without demanding any results".

The author said herself compared to her previous works, this one was more soft and focused on relationships but still there is many heartbreaking moments. He Yan's sadness about the child she never got to meet, Xiao Jue's childhood being turbulent bc of his parents disagreements and the way he still deeply cared for his mother while bearing the weight if the world on his shoulders.

Chapters 41 - 49:

Back with the chapters, this is an important time because He Yan builts friendships with the Liangzhou squad (even annoying WangBa) and most importantly she slowly builds her way back as a military officer. Also we have a little throwback to her academy time, Xiao Jue seemingly mocks her bc all he sees is a young BOY* with no decent talents only power of will but we will find out later on not everything is what it seems.

Quote Chapter 43: In this world, trying hard always brings results, even if it’s not as remarkable as those with natural talent. She had no talent, and the only thing she had was this effort. But in this world, there were things one could work hard for their whole life and still not obtain, and that was people’s hearts.

She sacrificed and dedicated herself to the He family, and she gave all her love to Xu Zhiheng, but her efforts were in vain.

Quote Chapter 44: "However, what made her angry was that since that day, Xiao Jue also came out every night. While she practiced swordsmanship, he would sit on the stone bench, reading and drinking tea by candlelight. Chapters 50 - 60:

Chapter 53 holds on of the most important moments imo, for He Yan as a person and for her story with Xiao Jue.

Quote Chapter 52: “Gentle disposition?” Xiao Jue repeated slowly. After a moment, he sneered, “You’re probably mistaken. It’s not Wang Ba who’s unruly – it’s He Yan.”

Quote Chapter 52: “In that case…” Shen Han changed the subject, “Commander, do you think He Yan can win this round?”Xiao Jue’s lips curled slightly, his voice faint.“Yes.”

Quote Chapter 53:

"She remembered feeling frustrated and despondent then. Someone had said to her, “If you’re truly determined to be strong, being blind doesn’t matter. Even if you’re blind, you can still be the most unique among the blind.”

It wasn’t exactly a comforting statement, but for some reason, it had stuck in her mind. She practiced doing things without relying on her eyes, and often thought about being “the most unique among the blind.” Many chapters later we understand the importance of what was said.

Quote Chapter 54: "Moreover, by Xiao Jue’s side, she could gather information about court affairs much more easily. She hadn’t thought about having any dealings with Xiao Jue in her previous life, but now she had to become his confidante. Back with my second reading of the novel, we are reaching the Liangzhou days.

Chapters 21- 40

Chapters 21 - 30:

Stuck in the Fan Cheng drama, He Yan with no way out enlists in the army once again disguised as a man, only this time she won't wear a mask. I remember thinking it was so interesting how the author tied this to He Yan's fate of being a military officer, hadn't the Liangzhou Guarrison be stationed close to where she was AND recruiting at the time and the incident with Fan Cheng never happened, would the chance come this quick? The body He Yan reborn in was currently only 16, she had a lot of things to work on yet it seemed like even with all the troubles things were slowly turning to her luck.

Quote Chapter 21: He Yan found herself longing for the day when she could see the girl whom Xiao Jue would choose in the future, a peerless beauty that would put all others to shame. (oh He Yan lol)

Quote Chapter 27: “You’re not a child anymore. You’re a man, and in the future, you’ll have to bear the heavy responsibility of the He family. You need to calm down and follow my instructions. I will be fine, you know that. Every time, I’ve been fine.” (He Yan is so fucking strong, i hope this part doesn't get cut from thr drama cause its essential to her character construction).

Chapters 31-34:

As He Yan starts her time in the military, things arent easy and Xiao Jue is about to make it seriously worse. What i love and hope it gets translated in the drama is that even tho He Yan wants justice for what happener she still values a lot her career in military because that was her life calling, with a new body she could've found a way to get revenge and justice but she took the harder path to it.

Chapters 35-40:

The first real interaction of Xiao Jue and He Yan, chapter 37 her digusting him on purpose to shoo him away from the river not knowing the future ... ah amazing.
