My Router Isn't Connecting To The Web
MAC address filtering is a very simple yet effective way to secure your wireless network. With MAC filtering you can specify precisely which computers can connect to your wireless network and which cannot. This way even if someone knows your hidden SSID and security key they will not be able to connect to your wireless network if you don't want them to. This is a great form of additional security. If, when setting up your router, you didn't change the administrator name and password, or if you're still broadcasting your SSID, (or if you don't understand what all this means) then it's possible someone else might leach onto your network and leverage your broadband connection for their own nefarious means. Hub / Switch: - This is a device the will be put in a central location and all the PCs will connect to it. These devices can be of 4, 8, 16, or 24 ports. They come with more ports also. These days switches are being used everywhere as they are more advance then HUB. In order to access the IP 192.168.1.1 address, the method is widespread which begins with typing of the same in your browser's address box. With the press of go can load you with options of change of settings. For this your browser should support the web standard requirements. You can set up an username and password by configuring your device. It is important that you place your router in the right location. You must also make sure that no metal surrounds your newly purchased Linksys router. Remember, a metal may block the signal, and this may hamper the working of the device. By default, most home routers have no security set up out of the box. This means that your neighbor can easily connect to your Wireless network and surf the web, without you knowing it. If that happens, they are using your bandwidth that you are paying for, to freely browse the internet. But that's not all. Without the proper security in place, your router and any network device connected to it (computer, cell phone, etc) becomes visible to anyone that can see your Wireless signal. From there, it's super easy for a hacker to connect to your computer and see your files, or even worse, steal/delete your data. 192.168.0.1 lies in the set of addresses that fall between 192.168.0.0 and 192.168.255.255. Currently, companies such as Netgear are using it as part of their broadband services. Note this WEP key down. Now, go to each PC in your network. Open up the Control Panel -> Network Connections and select your wireless network connection. You need to enter the WEP key for the connection - the manufacturer's should have instructions on how to do this. However, you might get an error, when you type 192.168.0.1 on the browser's platform, while you set up the router, make sure you follow the instructions, but avoid choosing the router's setup wizard.
