Ah but he did turn his back on her, he did try to betray her, didn’t he? “I had always been aware that you didn’t mean it when you said you’d stay… And the pain you felt because of Hotarumaru… The love you held for those two… I knew that was where your loyalty lied, with your family… Though I didn’t know if you would betray me or not I had always been aware of the possibility…” This doesn’t make it okay, but … “That night… The moment I went with you, I had already decided to forgive you…”

     “I’d rather you do any of that than what you did.” It was more of a mumble      than anything. “I still caused you to make that decision. I’m also responsible.      I should be the one punished.” That’s right, he should be the one to shoulder      the responsibilities.

     “It would’ve been easier for both of us if you didn’t forgive me. If you had      stayed behind. You’d be okay, and in time, I’d receive my punishment. You      wouldn’t be harmed. I chose my family over you, my Master, the person who      gave life to me.” Such treason should never be forgiven. He hardly even       sound like himself right now, even he’s surprised. But his words are not lies.      He can’t lie at this point, not when his usual mask had crumbled.

     He lowers his eyes, finding himself at loss for words. She really is too good       for him. It’s hard to understand why she would choose him, out of all people.      A good for nothing, traitorous sword like him. He doesn’t let go of her hands,      despite the fact that he can find nothing to say.

“But isn’t this the point, Kuniyuki?” It came as a surprise that he was to admit it. That he wouldn’t play dumb or try to change the subject. “You never asked me for anything, you didn’t expect anything of me, did you? I do what I do because I want to. Because I care about you. Isn’t it just the same with you sacrificing your time off to come stay with me at times? Or troubling yourself with how I might feel?”

Taking both of his hands in hers Elene smiles, listening to what he has to say. “I do the things I do because just like you said, things come and go, and so if I don’t give you my all it will be most likely that I will lose you someday.” And wouldn’t she have lost him if she didn’t take her time to get close? If she hadn’t rushed to stop him on that night? “But more important than that, if something does happen, I don’t want to regret not loving you, not giving you my all. As I said you are worth the effort even if you may think otherwise. Although… I think if you truly believed you do not deserve it you would’ve turned away instead of listening to me saying that it is not true at all.”

“I love you, Kuniyuki… I hope you can see why, but I will tell you if you still can’t bring yourself to accept it”

     “You didn’t have to, you know? For someone like me.” Maybe if he had kept       to himself, she wouldn’t have to do those things, and suffer the consequences      for his sake. 

     “But wouldn’t it hurt you more? You’ve given so much for me, and say, one      day I disappear without a trace, after everything.” And who’s to say he won’t?      Maybe now he has no intention to leave, but there’s always that possibility.      War isn’t so kind, life isn’t kind. He might survive today, but not tomorrow.      “Why won’t you save yourself from that kind of pain?” Keep everything at an      arm’s length, don’t let them too close. He always tries to do that, so he doesn’t      have to feel the loss.

     “But why? Surely I’m not the greatest person out there. I have one too many      flaws, I tried to turn my back on you. I got you in trouble, Elene.” He gripped      her hands in return. Such delicate hands, he thought. “Why do you still love me?”

“I wouldn’t worry if you didn’t give me a reason to. If you didn’t make it seem like you think you don’t deserve the things I did for you, if you didn’t feel so bad when you look at me at times…”

“Don’t even try to deny, it gets written all over your soul… It seems to me that you don’t work hard because you are too harsh on yourself… Something along the lines of, what is the point in trying? I am only going to lose it, right? Because I don’t deserve it…” It takes one to recognize another. “I worry that if I am to tell you that I love you your first thought would be why?”

     “But I really don’t. You’ve done so much for me, to ask for more would be       rude of me, right?” Someone like him clearly doesn’t deserve such       treatment.

     “I won’t deny it. You’re right. It really makes it hard for me to give it my all,      you know? Things come and go, even those I hold real close to myself.”      He pauses, “Then you may not want to ask, Aruji-han. Because that’s how       I’ll answer, unfortunately.”

“You are, but… I meant every word I said…”

“You should be kinder to yourself…”

     “You worry too much. I am kind to myself. I would’ve worked really hard if I’m not.”

Should Elene pretend she didn’t know he was listening? Nah, probably not.

“You’re an idiot, you know that?”

     “I’ve been told that on several occasions, so I guess I am?”

She feels your soul nearby, Akashi. And so she will go to where you are to hug you!

     Dammit. Then he’s going to pretend he doesn’t hear anything.      He still hugs back, though.

“Kuniyuki?” Crossing  her arms for a moment the greek tilts her head to the side while seemingly in thought. What does she think of him? “I think… He should stop looking down on himself. Yes he is lazy and sometimes may not feel like putting any effort into anything…” He may have thought of betraying her but…

“But his heart is in the right place. I mean I can’t imagine how it is… To be an inanimate object and all of a sudden gain emotions and thoughts and then all of his story rushing in as memories… And being asked to function like a human while in the middle of a war… Of course there are things he wasn’t going to get right, everybody is bound to make mistakes anyway… But truth is he isn’t a bad person, he listens and he cares (sometimes way too much…) even if he doesn’t show it directly…”

“I know he feels guilty of what happened…” He may think that he was the one who dragged her into going against her duty and losing her tongue for a while, but that is not true at all. “And sometimes it pains him, but I think he needs to realize that he is worth the effort. I want to take care properly of all my swords, why would it be different with him? He is a considerate person and although he may complain, Kuniyuki listens and does end up looking after me.” Even if he may end up falling asleep in her room sometimes while keeping her company. “He feels too much in my opition, guilt and fear, it is more apparent when he looks at Hotarumaru or myself at times but I think he is just someone who deserves to be happy and allow himself to be looked after without feeling bad about it”

A small pause. Yes, she is very aware of his flaws, but so was the tachi. With another sigh the greek averted her eyes,  a dust of pink tinting her face.

“And to be honest…. I love him. I love him a lot.”

"Kuniyuki-kun?" Having found the other sitting down by himself Elene waits untill he was to look up to her to take off his glasses and lean forward, bending down to place a kiss to his lips. Her face is tinted pink untill the tip of her ears but the greek has a fond smile when pulling away, putting his glasses back on their place.

     Akashi wasn’t particularly busy. He’s just being his usual self. Lazing around,     avoiding work, and all that. Though it’s not like he has work in the first place.     He’d picked up a good book, though! Someone left it laying around on the      table and he’d decided to pick it up for a short read. His chin leaning on his     palm, immersed in the story until the Saniwa came in.

     “Yeah, Aruji-han?” Nonchalantly, he leaned back and looked up at her. He      figured she’d be there to talk to him about his work, but to his surprise, it was     nothing of the sort. A pair of soft lips met with his, though it didn’t last long      enough for him to finish his thoughts.

     “…” His glasses put back on, he could feel the heat rushing to his face, his      cheeks turning pink in embarrassment, his eyes wide open.

     She kissed him.

     She kissed him!!

     He couldn’t bring himself to say anything, he wasn’t able to, the words just     won’t come out!
