A horrifying but ultimately unsurprising thing happened. In my dungeons and dragons game I have a parody of the United States which is a giant city on a colossal pirate ship. They have a form of “stakeholder democracy” in which everyone gets a number of votes equal to the number of civil societies, neighborhood associations, private companies, and trade unions of which they are a member. This system is both ludicrously complicated and hideously corrupt. Anyone who has nothing better to do but join civil societies all day could amass dozens of votes just by having nothing on their hands but time and money.
Quote, Thomas Piketty Capital and Ideology on the second french republic:
In 1820, a so called “double vote law” was promulgated. This allowed the wealthiest quarter of those eligible to vote, roughly corresponding with those eligible to be elected deputies to vote a second time for some of those elected to the chamber of deputies.
Yep

pomfy what advice would you give to a beginner illustrator
a very generic but often glossed over advice is: to have fun with art. it's very vague, so I'll try my best to define it simply. Having fun with art is literally drawing dogshit drawings/doodles and doing whatever the hell you want. You have to be okay with liking your bad art and most of your art will be bad. If you're not having fun, it's up to you to make it fun in your own way.
all good artists have thousands of hours in art; all those hours are moving their brush/pen alone, not including research or visually studying other artworks. As you are having fun with art starting out, you will naturally start researching on your own merits and start doing studies of fundamentals.
Btw I didn't get good at art until 3000 hours into art. And I'm not even that good; I still have a lot to improve.
TLDR: draw for like 3000 hours

[Cueball holds a smallish rock.] Cueball: This rock weighs one pound. Megan: I'd believe it. White Hat: Looks like a normal rock.
[Cueball holds a small battery.] Cueball: This battery is one volt. Megan: Seems fine. White Hat: Might need a recharge.
[Cueball holds a capacitor while Megan and White Hat panic.] Cueball: This capacitor is one farad. Megan: Aaaaa! Be careful!! White Hat: Put it down!!

My T-shirt with the entire text of Borges' theoretical Library of Babel is raising a lot of questions already answered by the shirt, somewhere.
