I really liked AA:I, so I had to make a silly comic about it (it probably breaks canon somewhere, but I'm okay with it!). Ace Attorney really inspired me to become a writer/comic artist, so I wanted to give back to the franchise. Hope you enjoy.

The reason the general public nowadays cannot see Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson as a romantic couple is because romantic relationships in real life are not nearly as good as theirs is. The characters come from a time when men and women had a very different power dynamic in society – many can argue there are still remnants of that dynamic resonating today. The man ruled the roost, the little woman attended the home but made no actual decisions in her life. Can you imagine being a Victorian, used to that lifestyle, that unfair power dynamic, and getting your hands on a Sherlock Holmes story? Two people live together, work together, care about each other more than anything in the entire world, and each person is equal to the other? One is an army doctor, the other a detective, and together they kick ass… until it’s time to go to dinner and the Opera together. They vacation together, wake up and eat breakfast together, they know each other’s sleeping habits. They walk together in the park and don’t feel pressured to speak because they know each other “intimately”. They stay living together long into old age. What a romance! What an exceptionally high bar for romance! A bar everyone wants to meet but most don’t. Who doesn’t want to be in a romantic relationship where you and your partner love and care about each other most in all the world? Where you two spend every day together and you’re glad for it, and days you’re apart you wait impatiently for a reunion? Where you build a life together? Where you literally take to Journaling about how great your partner is? Where each person is equal?

Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson have had an 130-year romance and that’s precisely why people love them. If someone does not understand that those two men were as intimate as lovers, it’s because that person does not grasp what a romantic relationship should be.

Have i ever had a romance as great as that of Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson? No, not by a long shot, but i hope that one day I’ll be lucky enough to experience it myself.

I started a new remote job last week, and I'm the only genderqueer person at the company (and the first person who uses neo pronouns that anyone on my team has ever met, apparently).

So far:

Manager carefully wrote down spelling and pronunciation of my pronouns and told everyone on the team to respect them.

Coworker apologized privately for misgendering me (I hadn't told her yet) and said she will practice.

Guy on another team valiantly tried to use my pronouns and ended up saying something like zirzs-zhizz (I DM'd him and thanked him for trying and linked him to a practice site).

Teammate told me he has written out my pronouns and how to use them in a sentence and literally taped it to his monitor so he can practice.

Teammate also referred to me as compañere after I linked to a comic about gender-neutral endings in Spanish (whole team except me + 1 other person speaks Spanish as first language and they held all meetings in Spanish before the two of us started).

I am so stoked that people are actually trying. 💜🤍💚

The U.S. Justice Department has filed an antitrust lawsuit against Visa, alleging that the financial services behemoth uses its size and dominance to stifle competition in the debit card market, costing consumers and businesses billions of dollars. The complaint filed Tuesday says San Francisco-based Visa penalizes merchants and banks who don’t use Visa’s own payment processing technology to process debit transactions, even though alternatives exist. Visa earns an incremental fee from every transaction processed on its network. According to the DOJ’s complaint, 60% of debit transactions in the United States run on Visa’s debit network, allowing it to charge over $7 billion in fees each year for processing those transactions. “We allege that Visa has unlawfully amassed the power to extract fees that far exceed what it could charge in a competitive market,” said Attorney General Merrick B. Garland in a statement. “Merchants and banks pass along those costs to consumers, either by raising prices or reducing quality or service. As a result, Visa’s unlawful conduct affects not just the price of one thing – but the price of nearly everything.”

My friend performed a Sherlock Holmes themed play, and they sent me one picture of them, where they were STRUTTING like the streets of London were a catwalk. So here is Holmes doing the very same.

A current student looked at the visitor and flatly said, “we don’t do that here.” The guest started getting defensive and explaining that they weren’t homophobic and didn’t mean anything by it. The student replied, “I’m sure that’s true, but all you need to know is we don’t do that here.” The interaction ended at that point, and everyone moved on to different topics. “We don’t do that here” was a polite but firm way to educate the newcomer about our culture. > It turns out talking about diversity, inclusion, and even just basic civil behavior can be controversial in technical spaces. I don’t think it should be, but I don’t get to make the rules. When I’m able I’d much rather spend the time to educate someone about diversity and inclusion issues and see if I can change how they see the world a bit. But I don’t always have the time and energy to do that. And sometimes, even if I did have the time, the person involved doesn’t want to be educated.

If I deliver this sentence well it carries no more emotional weight than saying, “in Japan, people drive on the left.” “We don’t do that here” should be a statement of fact and nothing more. It clearly and concisely sets a boundary, and also makes it easy to disengage with any possible rebuttals.
