     “ i can’t do much else, can i? ”  he wasn’t sure just when this compulsory commitment crossed the threshold into an ingrained habit, ( or, perhaps an intrinsic need ) but all ambrose knew was that this was all he’s ever known. he had a role to play, and it was one he’d become ruefully dependent on. still —– fatigue was bleeding out of him with every word junsu happened to mutter. the affinity was mutual. his eyes softened, and his lips curved wearily — and sincerely. the sigh pouring from him really couldn’t be helped, and he leaned against the other, head falling onto junsu’s shoulder as he stifled a yawn. they’d known each other long enough for this not to be as strange as most would assume. they were a collision of clipped wings and mandatory allegiances, but there was no real impact as far as they were concerned. junsu was the only instance in which ambrose did break the rules. most people steered clear of the fallen, but their shared history trumped trivial laws.  “ apparently, you have enough selflessness to lecture me, at least. ” it’s said fondly enough, and he laughs to himself — a light melody that hangs in the air. 

      “ for once, i’ll listen. as long as you spend the evening with me. ” he won’t be able to rest otherwise. his mind would drift elsewhere and everywhere, and it would be a dangerous cycle from there. empathy stings, after all. “ you’re not too busy for me, are you? ”

                       ❛     i’m trying to act considerate .    you know , i’m cruel , not heartless . or so i think .  ❜    cadence dripping , rippling , rippling  ( benign ? bogus ?  hysterical poignant endeavor ? ) / BITING , full - teethed & sullen . was all the ire spurious ? all the malice ?    all the grudge ?  or is he , in the gelid influence of pitiless , grim , rancorous enmity , just a boy , scared / scarred / sacred , desperately trying to be soft ?     junsu is leery . watchful . distrustful .   unforgiving .  junsu is horrid & grotesque , junsu’s fingers  --- shaky / frosted , brushing through ambrose’s pliable hair , silken between .  ( q : is god a joke ?   an antic ?  or a comedy ?  /  a : how could he be anything else ? )   how benevolent can a crippled wall clock get with its ruthless ticking / barbarous teeth ? how docile a hungry wolf can be , how pliant can it become ?  can a carnivorous nature disappear ?  he doesn’t feel the need to hurt , to destroy . so , was he even a wild animal in the first place   --- or just a hungry stray dog seeking for a hand to bite through ? peaceful hum , amicable , almost purring .   nails scratch at rose’s scalp , ludicrously placid . 

                      ❛     i’ll stay .  ❜  mutters .  smooth strum of an ac heater reticent , a soothing background noise . he shifts , looks down .    ❛    you hungry ?  ❜

    ‘ aren’t i always, junsu? ’ a listless refrain, in response to a phrase he’s heard one time too many from the other. from everyone. his bones pang with fatigue, but has he known anything else? will he know anything else? the ache has dulled with time ——- but he is worn. ‘ some of them are grateful, not that it matters, i suppose. saving people or not…everything is exhausting, don’t you think? everyone is exhausted. even you. ’ transcendence was a curse ( not a blessing ) to them all, fallen or not.
