Successful Surgical Management of Testicular Tumor in a Dog at SS Pet Care Hospital
At SS Pet Care Hospital, we believe that timely veterinary intervention can change the life of a pet — and today’s case is a perfect example of that. Our surgical team successfully performed orchiectomy (surgical removal of the testicle) in a male dog diagnosed with a testicular tumor. The surgery was conducted under general anesthesia, and we are pleased to report that the procedure was uneventful and the patient is now recovering well.
Case Summary
A male dog was presented to our hospital with a complaint of scrotal swelling. On clinical examination, one of the testicles was found to be abnormally enlarged, firm in consistency, and slightly warm to touch. The pet had also shown subtle signs of discomfort and irritability in the previous few weeks. Based on clinical findings and diagnostic evaluation, a testicular tumor was suspected.
🔘Understanding Testicular Tumors in Dogs
Testicular tumors are relatively common in intact (unneutered) older male dogs. There are different types of tumors such as:
▪️Sertoli cell tumors
▪️Seminomas
▪️Interstitial (Leydig) cell tumors
These tumors may present as testicular enlargement, feminization syndrome (in case of estrogen-producing tumors), alopecia or behavioral changes. Though many testicular tumors are benign, some can metastasize (spread to other organs), which makes early diagnosis and treatment critical.
🔘Surgical Procedure
After routine pre-anesthetic bloodwork and physical fitness assessment, the dog was anesthetized using a balanced general anesthesia protocol. A closed castration technique was followed to prevent tumor cell spread. The affected testicle was removed completely, along with the contralateral testicle, as bilateral orchiectomy is the standard treatment for testicular neoplasia.
The surgery was completed without complications and intra-operative monitoring of vital parameters ensured complete anesthetic safety. Post-operatively, the dog was placed on analgesics, antibiotics, and anti-inflammatory medications and his recovery is being closely monitored.
🔘Outcome and Prognosis
The patient recovered smoothly from anesthesia and has shown excellent post-operative progress. The surgical site is healing well and the pet is more comfortable and active than before.
In most cases, orchiectomy offers a good to excellent prognosis, especially if the tumor is localized and has not metastasized. Further histopathological analysis of the removed tissue is being performed to determine the exact tumor type and need for additional management, if any.
🔘Awareness for Pet Parents
This case highlights the importance of early detection and routine check-ups in male dogs. Testicular tumors often go unnoticed until they reach a larger size. Neutering at an early age not only prevents such tumors but also eliminates the risk of prostate enlargement and certain behavioral issues.
🔘If you notice:
▪️Swelling or asymmetry in the scrotal region
▪️Hair loss or feminization signs in a male dog
▪️Behavioral changes or lethargy
…it’s time to consult your veterinarian immediately.
CONCLUSION
At SS Pet Care Hospital, we are committed to providing advanced surgical care with compassionate post-operative management. Our team continues to educate pet parents about the benefits of preventive healthcare, including neutering, which remains the most effective method to prevent testicular tumors.
Let’s work together for a healthier pet community.

Struvite Urolithiasis in a 5-Year-Old Beagle
A Case Report from SS Pet Care Hospital, Tirunelveli
At SS Pet Care Hospital, Tirunelveli, we recently managed a notable case involving a 5-year-old male Beagle who presented with alarming urinary symptoms, including urinary incontinence and haematuria (blood-tinged urine). The owner also reported frequent urination and signs of discomfort during urination.
🔘Clinical Examination and Diagnosis
Physical examination revealed pain on abdominal palpation, pointing to lower urinary tract involvement. To investigate further, we conducted an abdominal ultrasound, which showed multiple hyperechoic structures with acoustic shadowing within the urinary bladder — classic indicators of urinary calculi.
Based on these findings and clinical signs, the dog was diagnosed with Struvite Urolithiasis.
🔘Surgical Management
Following preoperative stabilization with intravenous fluids and broad-spectrum antibiotics, the patient was prepped for a cystotomy — a surgical procedure to remove bladder stones — performed under general anesthesia.
Intraoperatively, multiple large, irregularly shaped struvite stones were retrieved. The bladder was thoroughly flushed, and the surgical closure was performed routinely. The dog recovered uneventfully from anesthesia.
🔘Postoperative Care and Follow-Up
¹Post-surgery, the patient was managed with a comprehensive care plan:
²Antibiotics – to treat or prevent bacterial infections
³Analgesics – to ensure pain-free recovery
⁴Prescription urinary diet – to reduce stone recurrence
⁵Hydration therapy – to promote urine dilution
At the two-week follow-up, the dog demonstrated excellent recovery, with complete healing of the surgical site and resolution of urinary symptoms.
🔘Understanding Struvite Stones
Struvite stones, also known as magnesium ammonium phosphate uroliths, are among the most common urinary stones in dogs, particularly in females and in certain predisposed breeds. These stones typically form as a complication of urinary tract infections (UTIs) caused by urease-producing bacteria. These bacteria raise the urine pH, creating an alkaline environment favorable for struvite crystal formation.
🔘Potential Causes of Struvite Urolithiasis in Dogs
1.Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs)
Urease-positive bacteria (e.g., Staphylococcus spp., Proteus spp.) produce ammonia from urea.
This raises urine pH and combines with phosphate and magnesium to form crystals.
2.Alkaline Urine
High urinary pH promotes struvite crystal aggregation.
Often associated with chronic infections or inappropriate diet.
3.Improper Diet
Diets high in magnesium and phosphorus, especially with low moisture, can encourage stone formation.
Dry kibble-only diets without adequate water intake are particularly risky.
4.Incomplete Bladder Emptying
Conditions such as bladder tumors, stones, or neurological issues prevent complete urination, leading to urine stagnation.
5.Breed Predisposition
Beagles, Miniature Schnauzers, Shih Tzus, Lhasa Apsos, and Cocker Spaniels are more susceptible due to genetic and anatomical factors.
6.Sex-Related Susceptibility
Although females are more prone to UTIs and thus struvite stones, males can also develop them, especially if infections go unnoticed.
🔘Key Takeaways for Pet Owners
¹Stay Alert: Watch for early signs like blood in urine, painful urination, frequent dribbling, or straining.
²Hydration is Crucial: Always ensure access to fresh, clean water.
³Feed Wisely: Use vet-prescribed diets tailored for urinary tract health.
⁴Regular Check-Ups: Follow-up urinalysis and ultrasound can help detect issues early.
CONCLUSION
This case highlights the importance of prompt diagnosis and surgical intervention in managing canine urinary tract disorders. At SS Pet Care Hospital, we combine advanced imaging, skilled surgery, and tailored post-operative care to provide comprehensive and compassionate treatment for our patients.
If your dog exhibits any unusual urinary behavior, early veterinary attention is essential to avoid complications.

80% of Buildings Are Unsafe: Kashmir Is Sitting on a Volcanic Heap
By. JAVAD AHMAD HURA [ UN Educationist ,Chief Editor Srinagar Samachar ]
Kashmir, a region known for its scenic beauty and fragile ecology, is also one of the most seismically active zones in the world. Geologists and experts have, for years, warned of an impending large-scale earthquake that could dramatically alter the geography of the Himalayan region. These warnings, made during various seminars and studies, have been alarmingly consistent. Yet, despite the gravity of the situation, the response from the administration has been muted and apathetic.
According to seismic researchers, the Kashmir Valley lies in a highly vulnerable zone where a massive earthquake is overdue. Tremors are regularly recorded in various parts of Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh, averaging three to four every month. While these tremors have so far been mild, the frequency is a clear indication that the earth beneath us is restless. However, the government appears to be in denial, offering superficial reassurances rather than action.
It is deeply regrettable that the administration chooses to downplay the risks, aiming only to reduce public anxiety rather than addressing the root causes of concern. The truth remains stark: Kashmir is perched on a geological fault line — a "volcanic heap" — that could erupt without warning, leading to catastrophic consequences.
Studies have clearly placed Jammu and Kashmir in Seismic Zone 4, with Srinagar categorized under the extremely dangerous Zone 5. This means that earthquakes exceeding magnitude 8 on the Richter scale are not only possible but likely. Despite this, the government continues to ignore expert advice and fails to implement adequate safety protocols.
What makes the situation more alarming is the condition of the region’s infrastructure. According to experts, over 80% of the buildings in the valley are not earthquake-resistant. A survey once identified approximately 2,000 buildings in Srinagar alone as unsafe. Though some were demolished, they were replaced by equally vulnerable constructions, and the survey’s recommendations were quietly shelved.
Adding to the concern is the absence of a functional disaster management system. Although a Disaster Management Authority exists in name, it is grossly underfunded and lacks the operational capacity to deal with emergencies. No proper micro-zoning has been done, no seismic instruments are in place, and no dedicated experts have been appointed to monitor earthquake patterns in the region.
Construction across Jammu and Kashmir continues unabated and unregulated. Building codes, which could significantly reduce earthquake damage, remain largely unenforced. This negligent approach endangers millions of lives and highlights a stark disconnect between policy and ground realities.
The time for warnings and token gestures has passed. The government must now move beyond paperwork and take immediate, concrete steps. These include enforcing seismic-resistant building codes, identifying high-risk zones, establishing a properly funded and staffed disaster management system, and launching public awareness campaigns.
The recent tremors should serve as a wake-up call. If we continue to ignore the signs, we may not get a second chance. In a region as vulnerable as Kashmir, inaction is not just negligence — it is a potential recipe for disaster.

A True story.......
Subramani – The Brave Survivor
Two months ago, we received a phone call from Selvan sir. With concern in his voice, he told us about a stray dog near his home that had recently given birth. One of the puppies was injured—its back leg was broken, and it was bleeding. Most people would have walked past, unsure of what to do. But Selvan sir didn’t hesitate. He administered basic first aid himself and then immediately brought the injured puppy to our hospital.
When the little one arrived, she was weak and in pain. We gave her anesthesia, cleaned her wounds and applied a modified Thomas splint to help the fractured femur heal properly. She was admitted to our pet hostel, where she stayed under our care for over a month. She received daily medications, healthy food and, most importantly, love.
We named her Subramani—although she’s a female, Selvan sir had already given her that name, and we chose to honour it. During her stay, Subramani became close to all of us. She responded to affection, grew stronger each day and slowly found joy again. The day she fully recovered and was ready to go home was filled with tears—tears of happiness, pride and gratitude.
Selvan sir never once asked how much it would cost or hesitated about the effort it would take. We treated Subramani entirely free of charge, but his gesture of bringing her in and taking full responsibility touched us deeply. While many might have noticed the injured puppy on the street and moved on, Selvan sir stopped, acted and changed her life forever.
A True Role Model
In today’s world, kindness is often rare. But people like Selvan sir remind us that compassion still lives on. To have clients like him is not just a blessing—it’s a responsibility we carry with pride. His love for Kevin and his selfless actions toward Subramani show us what true humanity looks like.
A Gentle Reminder
There are still many little Subramanis in our streets—injured, hungry and waiting for someone to care. If you see one, don’t look away. Even the smallest step can make a difference. Bring them to us. Call us. Talk to us.
At SS Pet Care Hospital, we are always ready to stand beside you in making that difference.
And yes, in case you're wondering—Subramani is still her name, even though she's a girl. It makes us smile every time we say it. Because names don’t matter when love is this pure.

DOGS – LIVING SYMBOLS OF LOYALTY AND LOVE
A bond built on trust, affection, and protection
DID YOU KNOW?.
If you rearrange the letters in the word “Dog”, you get “God”.
This is more than a coincidence — it reflects a powerful truth.
Dogs embody the purest form of love and place their full trust in humans throughout their lives.
A TIMELESS COMPANIONSHIP
From ancient times to today, dogs have stood by humans — as loyal friends, brave protectors, and loving companions.
WHAT MAKES A DOG SO SPECIAL?
Unshakable loyalty to the one who cares for them
Pure, judgment-free affection
The instinct to love, guard, and trust wholeheartedly
BUT TODAY…
False narratives and fear-driven content portray dogs as threats. Social media and posters often show them as aggressive or dangerous.
This is misleading propaganda.
It's Time to Change the Narrative. Let’s balance these images with stories that show:
Their love and playfulness
Their emotional depth
Their loyalty and devotion
Dogs Are Not Just Animals – They Are Family.
Let us raise awareness among the younger generation about these beautiful beings who trust and love us without conditions.
Protect. Educate. Celebrate. Because every dog deserves love — and a chance to give it back.

▪️The Story of June
Three years ago, June—a frail, skeletal dog weighing barely 6 kilograms—was carried into our clinic, clinging to life. She was suffering from a severe case of babesiosis, and her condition was truly heartbreaking.
Her parents, a gentle, compassionate vegetarian couple, arrived with eyes brimming with tears and voices trembling with worry. Despite their personal beliefs, they had lovingly prepared every meal for June—adding fish, chicken, and mutton to her diet in the hope of helping her grow strong and healthy.
But despite their devotion, June’s health continued to decline. Her fragile body spoke volumes of silent suffering. When we examined her, the seriousness of her illness became immediately clear. We initiated aggressive, round-the-clock treatment. Through every injection, every IV drip, and every sleepless night, June’s parents remained by her side.
They visited the clinic every single day—sometimes just to hold her paw, sometimes to whisper gentle words of encouragement. Their eyes, often swollen from crying, reflected a love so deep and selfless that it touched even the most stoic hearts among us. They weren’t just fighting for June’s life—they were fighting with her.
In the end, it wasn’t just medicine that pulled June back from the edge—it was the unwavering, soul-deep bond between a dog and her family.

Reminiscence நினைவூட்டல்
Mrs. Meena Suresh, Vannarpetai, Tirunelveli
Sake, my beloved Labrador Retriever, is more than just a pet—she is family. I lovingly call her my daughter, and she holds a very special place in my heart. Intelligent and intuitive, Sake understands our conversations and even responds in her own sweet way. I can understand her emotions just as she understands mine.
She came into my life when she was just 30 days old and has been with me ever since. Now four years old, she fills the emptiness in my day-to-day life with her love and presence.
Dr. Rajesh, who looks after her health, also provides her a safe and caring space at his pet hostel whenever I have to travel. I’m at peace knowing she’s in good hands during my absence.
Sake is incredibly friendly and adores playing with children. My neighbors have embraced her just like their own, often letting their kids spend time with her. She is a bundle of joy, overflowing with love and cuteness.

National Pet Day - April 11, 2025
𝗞𝗘𝗩𝗜𝗡 - A Tale of Compassion, Connection and Commitment.
▪️By 𝗦𝗦 𝗣𝗘𝗧 𝗖𝗔𝗥𝗘 𝗛𝗢𝗦𝗣𝗜𝗧𝗔𝗟, Dr. C. Rajesh., M.V.Sc, F.VMAS, PGDVCLD, PGCVH
Clinic address: SS Pet Care Hospital, 80/3, MAS Complex, V.M Chatram, Tirunelveli 627011.
At SS Pet Care Hospital, we are fortunate to meet hundreds of animals—each with their own stories, quirks and charm. But once in a while, a few leave behind something much more lasting than memories. They become part of our journey, our family. Kevin and Subramani are two such special souls whose stories have touched us deeply and reminded us of the power of love and kindness.
𝗞𝗘𝗩𝗜𝗡 – The Puppy Who Stole Our Hearts
It was a regular day at the hospital when Kevin, a 45-day-old puppy, was brought in for his first vaccination. Tiny, curious and filled with innocent energy, he instantly became the centre of attention. Most puppies are nervous or scared during their first vet visit—but not Kevin. He wagged his tail with excitement and greeted us like he had known us forever.
From that day on, Kevin kept coming back for booster vaccinations and deworming. With each visit, he grew not just in size but in the bond he shared with us. In a hospital where we see 15 to 20 pets every single day, Kevin stood out. There was a calm confidence about him, a unique affection. While other pets often hesitate or show signs of fear, Kevin would eagerly walk in, refusing to leave once his treatment was done. He was home.
His owner, Mr. Selvan—a respected tutor at a nursing college—understood Kevin's special connection with us. He would often bring Kevin to the hospital just for fun, like a little picnic trip, so Kevin could meet us and enjoy his time here. We’d play, take pictures and cherish the little moments. Over time, Kevin became our beloved little mascot—his pictures now grace many of the walls of our hospital. He is more than just a patient; he is family.
We are proud to present Kevin with the Best Pet Parent Award and a Certificate of Appreciation for ensuring all vaccinations were administered at the correct intervals and for setting a great example for all pet parents.

Celebrating Compassion: National Pet Day with "Lilly" – A Story of Rescue, Love, and Hope
April 11, 2025 | National Pet Day – India
In a world that sometimes forgets the voiceless, stories like these remind us of the power of kindness and the bond we share with animals.
On April 3, 2025, a small, orphaned kitten was found on the street—her mother tragically lost in a road accident. Alone and vulnerable, this little soul could have been forgotten. But fate had other plans. She was taken in with love and care, and today, she is no longer alone. She is Lilly—a cherished member of the family.
Lilly's journey from the street to a warm home is a testament to the compassion shown by Adwaith and Arjun Krishna, who didn’t just adopt her—they gave her a new life filled with training, love, and nurturing. Their dedication reflects the true spirit of National Pet Day, a day to honor the animals who become our companions, our healers, and our friends.
Today, on this special occasion, Lilly received her second rabies booster dose and was also dewormed as part of responsible pet care. Her well-being is a shared priority, and her presence brings immeasurable joy to everyone around her.
Lilly is more than just a pet—she’s a symbol of how small acts of kindness can create ripples of love. Her charm, intelligence, and sweet nature have made her a beloved part of the family. And through this celebration, her story becomes a message to all: every life matters.

Tirunelveli Medical College Nursing School Observes World Sparrow Day with Green Initiative
Tirunelveli, March 20 – In observance of World House Sparrow Day, the Tirunelveli Medical College Nursing School organized a special awareness and plantation drive to highlight the declining population of house sparrows and the urgent need for conservation efforts.
The event was led by Principal Rtn. Mr. R. Parthipan and Vice Principal Mrs. Beula, with active participation from nursing faculty and students. As part of the initiative, saplings and various plants were planted to create a more bird-friendly environment, providing shelter and food sources for sparrows.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. V. Selvan, National UN Volunteer, emphasized the crucial role of sparrows in controlling mosquito populations by feeding on their eggs, larvae, and adult mosquitoes, thereby helping prevent diseases. He pointed out that habitat destruction due to urbanization, a reduction in insect populations essential for their survival, and the impact of large cell phone towers have significantly contributed to their decline.
“In recent years, the chirping of sparrows has become a rare sound. On this World Sparrow Day, I urge everyone to adopt the habit of keeping grains and water in their homes to support these little birds,” said Mr. Selvan, calling for collective efforts to restore their habitats.
The event served as a reminder of the importance of conservation and environmental responsibility, encouraging the community to take small yet impactful steps to protect house sparrows and biodiversity.

STOP
தமிழில்
Stop listening to people who excite you with the evils that will befall your enemies.
Stop saying amen to prayers that condemn your enemies to woes.
Stop patronizing people who feed you with the bad things you wish happen to your enemies, they are harvesting your peace of mind, they are turning you into a religious zombie.
The author and finisher of our faith said you should love and pray for your enemies. Anyone telling you the contrary is an antichrist.
