Finally caught up on buccaneers season two and I have thoughts about theolizzy…
I am not buying their relationship at all right now. It just feels like the show runners want them together since they’re both beloved main characters, which I should enjoy because I do in fact love both of their characters!! So them being together should be great and perfect, but I am having two major issues with their relationship as it stands. First, Theo’s heart still belongs to Nan. It seems like they want us to believe that he got over Nan in the three weeks that he left Tintagel, but it was obvious that he was still hurt when he returned. He’s deliriously dancing around the castle, getting day drunk, etc., and those all sound like the actions of a heartbroken man!! He is not over Nan and the betrayal. The betrayal hurts so much because he still loves her. He loved her fully and forcefully, and that doesn’t go away in a mere three weeks—even with his revelation. This brings me to my second major issue with this pairing, which is that Lizzy deserves someone who is fully hers. An integral part of Seadown’s torment of Lizzy was pitting her against her friend for his affections and then parading their relationship in front of her to add even more salt to the wound after he assaulted her. Would this have been as effective if it was any random lady in London? No! The fact that Lizzy (a fiercely loyal friend) was caught in this situation with Jinny (her oldest friend) was part of what made Seadown’s torment and harassment so much harder. Obviously, Theo’s intentions are wildly different from Seadown’s, but I can’t help but wish that Lizzy had a great love that was truly her own. Why does she keep ending up in these situations with the St. George sisters’ husbands? Theo’s heart belonged to Nan first (whether or not you think it still does) and wouldn’t there be a part of Theo that finds satisfaction in being with one of Nan’s dearest friends given that she cheated on him with his dearest friend?? Do I really think that Theo is consciously making that choice? Probably not, but I also don’t think that it would be at all disheartening for him to realize. He has mirrored Nan’s betrayal in the closest way possible by pursuing Lizzy. I don’t think Lizzy deserves that in the slightest!! Do I want them both to have happy endings? Yes. Do I think that it makes sense for it to be with each other? Not with the information we have currently.
Predicting that they are going to reveal some unsavory things about Hector in the next episode before the wedding…so I’ll hold off on my evaluation of him as a love interest for Lizzy.
TL:DR Lizzy deserves to be someone’s greatest love, and I cannot imagine Theo being the one to give her that as it stands.
