Part of why social media is so bad for us is that, although we believe we live in an age of interconnectivity, most of us are not truly connecting w one another. We see these immense archives of data (social media profiles) as the totality of personhood and exist only as amalgamations of labels. We carefully construct our online identities to show ppl who we are as we want to be seen. The more time and energy we put into this, the more we deceive ourselves into believing that this is who we really are…..then we form enclaves of ppl who have the same interests and who consume the same things as we do and basically become a hivemind of collective consciousness. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk now go meet up with somebody who is dear to you and just be with each other without looking at ur phone please!!!!!
