I rly hate the Satanic Panic & the moral panic surrounding violence in video games in the 90s, coz it's now impossible to talk about the social implications of violent video games in a realistic sense.
No, violence in video games does not create serial killers in the way most people imagine it would.
However, it's very important to notice how after 9/11, a lot of violent video games pivoted their content from silly gratuitous cartoon gore to more realistic military shooters set in the Levant from a US American lens. It's also important to notice the connection of these games & their toxic online multi-player voice chats to Gamer Gate in 2014.
It's obviously not as black & white as it was presented in the 80s & 90s, I dont think everyone who played early Call of Duty games is a white supremacist who wants to join the military to kill people in the middle east, but I think it's dangerous to pretend like video games or any media can't have an impact on the way people think about violence.
I think what makes all the difference here is how that violence is portrayed, what the message behind it is, what the motives are behind the people who crafted that message, who the victims of that violence are, how they are portrayed & the greater cultural context that surrounds it.

i was at an event last night in california and i went to the bar to order wine bc wine was like, a thing, and i looked at the menu and saw i was completely out of my depth bc idk any wine names, so i turned to my right and there was a man in a gorgeous suit standing at the bar beside me and i said “do you know anything about wine?” and he said “a little, yes!” i told him i liked white and dry wines and asked if he’d order for me. he asked the server for two glasses and had one poured for each of us and then he clinked his glass on mine but he didn’t take a sip, he just watched me taste mine and then he asked what i thought and i said “it’s pretty good, but like i said, i wouldn’t know.” he laughed and told me to have a good time & i walked away. fifteen minutes later i found out he’s the winemaker.

DM for Paypal
hey everyone, my car is having some trouble once again. i'm at a shop getting it checked out but i'm not sure what they're going to say. it's overheating and there may be a battery issue and a spark plug issue.
this could cost several hundred dollars that i don't have right now
i live in my car so it's important to keep it running so i can have transportation and mostly, so i can have AC. the temps are in the 90s lately, and i really need a running car to survive this heat. please consider donating whatever you can spare, or boost this post!
i'll update as soon as i know how much this will cost me.

Apparently there was some kind of race scheduled at a local park or something so I've been trying to avoid the main trail but a little while ago when I had to cross near it I overheard the following shouted exchange
Higher feminine voice: woo, look at you go! You're jogging! Keep it up!
Lower masculine voice (panting): you know it! Last place is still a place, baby!
And goddamn if that didn't rewire my brain a little bit.
Last place is still a place, baby.

idea that intersex people are rare is intersexism
[large text: idea that intersex people are rare is intersexism]
intersex people get routinely mutilated after birth, put on non-consensual hormonal "therapy" later in life, our medical history may be altered or hidden from us, doctors often lie straight in our faces to not tell us our diagnoses or push us to "consent" on "treatment" by fearmongering or witholding information about this treatment, the official definitions of intersexness are constantly narrowing to exclude as many variations as possible.
we aren't naturally rare, we are made rare, and then this "rareness" is used as excuse to not include us anywhere. to not address our discrimination. to not think about our experiences.
intersex people aren't rare. we're (often violently) erased and separated. and this is intersexism.

Remembering the time I was asked to remove 'intersex' from my discord bio by the mods of a furry discord server because "this is a sfw space and that includes bios too" and I got so fucking mad I chewed out one of the mods and was promptly banned for "being rude and disrespecting the mods"., As if my personhood as an intersex man hadn't just been reduced to a fucking fetish porn trope and deemed too inappropriate for teenagers to see in my bio.

Notpla, the company which makes seaweed-based packaging to replace single-use plastics, started with its two French and Spanish founders, Pierre Paslier and Rodrigo Garcia Gonzalez, experimenting in their student kitchen while at Imperial College London.
Now, Notpla has replaced more than 21 million items of single-use plastic across Europe, and is aiming to displace 1 billion units by 2030. In partnership with Just Eat, Notpla’s packaging was used at the UEFA Women’s Final at Wembley Stadium, London in 2022. From seven types of folded carton board boxes that year, it has grown into a catalogue of over 50 different designs.
And the company is launching a new deli range, featuring plastic-free windows so people can see their sandwiches before buying. Honsinger hopes this will help Notpla branch out into office catering and museums, where that sneak peek is important.
