E M P E R O R Y E A R C H E C K - I N 🌟 Well, how’s your Emperor year going so far? We’re halfway through and learning a lot about this card. The Emperor maintains foundations and boundaries. Covid is challenging the borders of our very bodies, searching for safety inside the borders of our own homes. But, let’s look at the amazing uprising going on across our country right now – officially the largest civil rights movement in our history. The Emperor is ruled by war god Aries. The Emperor is foundations and boundaries, it’s true, but it also knows that sometimes one has to go to war to protect those boundaries. The Emperor has a lot to teach us about the transformative power of anger, and the importance of being willing to risk your own comfortable position in order to build a better world. The Emperor stands strong, more concerned with results than politeness or respectability. 🌟 This movement is not some sudden phenomenon. Black people and their allies have been working for decades to build a solid foundation that centers community and mutual aid. The Emperor shows us from a movement perspective, when you take the slow road to cultivating strong foundations you will have the strength to win when it’s time to fight. The Emperor also shows us that from a larger societal lens, when the foundation has cracks in it (aka institutionalized white supremacy) the structure resting on top cannot stand, and will have to be completely rebuilt. 🌟 And this comes back around to the Emperor's connection to our individual power. How can we use our power to contribute to the movement? Smart, committed activists of color (Cargle, Oluo, and Newsome come to mind) have offered lots of suggestions, but we have to take the action. This is Emperor work, recognizing that the highest ideal of this archetype is someone who owns their power, takes responsibility for it, and uses it to serve their people.
