I don't think we talk enough about how hard it probably was for B'Elanna to even get into Starfleet and by extension Starfleet Academy.

She grew up on Qo'nos. She is only half Human. She doesn't live with her father, she lives with her mother. How do we know she got her father's citizenship perks? In other words, if you aren't a part of a citizen world of the United Federation of Planets, you gotta go through a ridiculous number of hoops and paperwork. She probably is more a citizen of Qo'nos/Klingon Empire than UFP. Ironically, Worf probably had it easier because he you know was raised by two Humans but is a full Klingon.

We don't know the Federation's rules on adoption, on immigration. We know if you're not a member of the UFP, like you're a Ferengi or something, you need sponsorship to go to the Academy. But guess what? We don't know if being half-not a Federation Member and grew up on a non-Federation planet means the same thing.

So who the hell sponsored B'Elanna Torres?

And then, she gets in. She gets bullied like shit for 2 years and calls it quits. After all the shit they probably made her go thru just to get in.

And you wonder why she's bitter as hell? Two years of her life Starfleet stole from her because they're xenophobic as hell in actuality. Because she dared to be Half-Klingon. Because she was actually much smarter than anyone gave her credit for. Because she had spent her life being a little too different. But she was told Starfleet was different. Yet come to find out that wasn't quite true.

"When everyone else around you is all one way and you're not you can't help feeling like there's something wrong with you."

And it turns out, there was something wrong with everyone else around her. Nothing wrong with her, though. Never anything wrong with her. Just having to defend her existence every second of her life.

And life on Voyager started out more of the same. I'd punch a guy, too.

also im just fucking cracking up at oliver going "at the beginning of the season I was going to play buck as having a sexual awakening whether the writers were doing it or not" and that translating to buck looking at eddie with the most down horrendous blushy heart eyes possible in every scene cause WHAT would he have done if tim didn't decide to make it canon. at some point he would've been in a scene with eddie and marisol and you would just see buck in the background gagging. he would give that boy Hanahaki disease in the name of character development.
