all of Robert Kanigher’s war comics are so, so interesting. Because he both is a ww2 vet and son of 2 Jewish immigrants, and it just all of his writings contain Jewish themes and stories and just everything is so fascinating.

I’m slowly reading through 2 of his characters enemy ace and Sgt rock, and sadly I don’t have access to all of the Sgt rock comics yet, the 1990s series and annuals/specials/other ones are all unavailable which is devastating to me.

but I have so many thoughts and things to share, it’s just all genuinely interesting. I will be back later on the inherent Jewishness of Sgt rock later.

it’s super interesting to me to see how they were presented in the comics!

i find it really sad we never could see gi robots true potential in the comics because weird war tales (the comic where they are from) got cancelled, but my GOODNESS.

he truely does have so many interesting and fun ideas about him.

gi robot we see in the tv show is designated the 2nd one just like in the comics! The first Gi robot named J.A.K.E 1 died after saving the creature commandos lives from aome undersea robots don’t ask me why I don’t know it was really fun either way.

and the second one is the currently alive and went on adventures, he fought Nazi’s with the creature commandos (oh my gosh they are such, such interesting characters I gotta read all of it) he was awarded some medals, he can’t speak yet has sentience.

he has a little family, and a friend. I don’t know if I’m reaching or not but he does have a lot of golem qualities it’s just such a fun reading.

I find it pretty interesting how gi robot is portrayed but he basically is this in both the tv show and the comics

comics Gi robot does appear somewhat after the cancellation but he’s kinda just stuck in the middle of nowhere along with the rest of the war comic characters. I do find it’s really interesting that they are bringing back not only the dc war comic characters but also the explicitly Jewish and Jewish coded characters of both creature commandos and Sgt rock.

I really really wanna make a post about Sgt rock’s Jewish coding and how it also relates to Judaism in dc’s war comics. Because there actually is a lot of Jewish characters like ALOT of Jewish characters and it’s extremely implied EXTREMELY IMPLIED Sgt rock is Jewish I have so much evidence to support that.

robert kaniger may have wrote one of the worst Wonder Woman runs, but some of the best war comics holy shit.

I've seen a couple people on here say things like, "The US is being run by literal Nazis and you're upset about antisemitism from leftists?" And you know what? Yes, I am.

I am angry that the people who told me they weren't antisemitic are being antisemitic. I am angry that the people who promised me a safe space are now going back on that promise. I am angry that the people who said they were better than that are being cruel in the same ways as the people I've always expected cruelty from.

I expect antisemitism from Nazis. I get angry when it comes from people who claimed to be my friends.

Do you have any advice on how to stop thinking about traumatic shit?

mostly, finding something that can fill your head instead. It’s actually a tactic used to help people, but I do it DIY like.

for me I read a lot, like ALOT ALOT things that can fill my head instead, I read a lot of comics and books.

comics help a lot because you read and look at pretty pictures and your brain starts to slowly process that instead of thinking of the bad stuff.

other things that helped me were when I was feeling like in a flashback was to focus on that I was safe and distracting myself from the thoughts.

sometimes music or podcasts help a lot, when I used to get nightmares almost every night I used to listen to podcasts so my brain would think about stuff in those podcasts and make the dreams more manageable.

sometimes talking to a friend helps a lot too. I mostly use DIY grounding techniques to help with a lot of it.

otherwise it’s really cathartic and helpful to write out all these feelings both scared and angry.

and gives you a chance to see what helps.

just keep trying new things until something sticks, some people find walking or exercising helpful, some people find reconnecting to their communities or religions helpful.

it just depends on you! Do what makes you comfortable and happy and you will find it

in light of recent events, i am seeing a lot of posts talking about punching nazis and fighting nazis. and that is good and all, but at the end of the day it is worthless if your activism starts and ends at condemning the nazi salute. antisemitism and nazism are more than sieg heiling and spray painting swastikas on a wall.

if you truly care about nazism, learn about its characteristics. learn what it really means. learn how it has affected and still affects jewish people. learn about antisemitism, about dogwhistles, about stereotypes. learn how to identify it when it's hidden, when it's not coming from right-wing white supremacists who openly hate jews, when it's coming from friends, or relatives, or other left-wing groups. identify what antisemitic beliefs you hold. fight antisemitism even when it is directed at jews you don't like or you disagree with.

and, above everything, support the jewish community. learn about their history, their culture, their customs. love jews more than you hate nazis.

international holocaust remembrance day is next week (january 27th). if you truly want to be an ally to the jewish community, condemning elon musk is not enough.

What Jews and other people from ethno-religions understand when someone says that they want you to stop being Jewish or other religion: "I want you to stop worshiping your god, stop having your festivals, stop having your holidays, stop having your own language, stop eating your traditional foods, stop observing your rituals, stop using your calendar, stop wearing your traditional clothing, stop holding your cultural norms of morality, stop holding your cultural norms of modesty, stop your cultural outlooks of identity, stop using your names, stop practicing all of your inherited ties to your ancestors, stop having your connection with your heritage and your history... just... stop being different and instead be like me, with my holidays, my foods, my language, my norms and culture, my clothing, my identity, my stripped-down heritage."

And then the Antitheist claims that that's not what they mean... but when you try to explain, they refuse to listen. And that's on them.
