May 14, 1944 was a dark day for the allied Italian Air Force.
Italian CANT 1007 bombers, now transport planes, dropped aid to the Yugoslav partisans in Kolašin.
On the way home to Galeta's Italian air base, they did not meet up with their fighter escort.
They were intercepted over the Adriatic by the JG 27 squadron armed with Me 109 planes. 9 Italian transports were shot down and 26 airmen were killed after that CANT 1007 was only used for night missions.

Fiat G.50 Freccia (Arrow), North Africa, date unknown. I'll bet these guys were glad the worst thing they had to worry about was getting sun burnt, as opposed to their unlucky colleagues on the Eastern Front

Restored and colorized by the YouTube account Archives Reloaded, to which I only changed the music

The stern catapult of the Italian battleship Vittorio Veneto with a Reggiane Re2000 fighter prepared for launch with the battleship Roma in the background. September 30, 1942.
The catapulted Re2000s were used similarly to the Hurricanes embarked on British CAM ships, requiring either to moor or land on land.
