Before Hundred Line comes out I'd just like to remind everyone about how it was described very early on.

the problem with watching buffy the vampire slayer for the first time when you're 13 is that it will fundamentally reshape your brain chemistry to the point where literally all fiction becomes buffy the vampire slayer in different fonts. "watch another show!" you might say, and believe me i have! i promise i've watched many other shows since i was 13. but the problem is that all those other shows as well as films, books, podcasts etc. are simply deviations of buffy the vampire slayer to me. it's the holy text, the primary source. everything else is just commentary.

ace attorney's temporal setting is so so funny. game released in 2013 takes place in 2027, video calls are some strange newfangled technology and everyone has a flip phone and also one of the main characters casually uses the robot assistant hooked up to her brainwaves to broadcast holograms that help her detect people's emotions

Rebuilding Community on the (fujo)Web — Part 1

It's (finally) time! A year after my CitrusCon24 talk & 10 days before my next, Part 1 of my "Rebuilding Community" series is on my blog.

This part explores why many indie social projects are caught in a "Downward Spiral" of disillusionment and burnout.

What's the "Downward Spiral"?

It's the vicious cycle where project runner burnout, user disillusionment, and impossible expectations feed each other. This makes it harder for the next project to get off the ground, and breeds resentment even within aligned communities. On… and on… and on…

I also look at the common "solutions" we desperately want to believe would work, but that are anything but straightforward:

Reducing scope (doing less)

Raising more funds

Relying on volunteers
