a lot of people don't realize that floyd is... the better twin.

those who do? really don't realize how much worse jade is. jade plays the role he's in with an uncanny perfection. and it is a skill that will only improve as time goes on. it's not secret that the twins work for azul- and i mean more than just waiters or cooks at the lounge. floyd is willing to break bones for azul, if he asks. and jade is willing and ready to ruin lives, if it has some gain.

it's easy to forget; jade has access to connections and information others do not. the game is quite light hearted, but they slip in darker content when they can. and the comic seems to have a bit more freedom-- introducing us to the twins, as they beat a dozen classmates senseless. my point of course, is that jade is not someone you ever want to try playing with. his kindly persona is just that, a false face and a means to keep people around him complacent. and usually, there is very little to worry about if you remain complacent, and easy, and don't push his buttons. chances are, he knows nearly everything about you...

rook's nickname for jade is monsieur mastermind-- a fitting title as, though azul is the dorm lead, jade really does supervise the entirety of it. a good practice run for him honestly, as he and his brother are in line to pick up after their parents. their family is HEAVILY implied to be the equivalent of the italian mob. so he's content to give azul the seat of power, as he pulls the strings from the shadows. displaying the reach he has multiple times in twst's stories and events. especially his own dorm vignette, in which vil expresses surprise at jade's efficiency. and jade manages to get vil access to things that would of otherwise been quite difficult.

all for his own gain of course ( and the dorms ).

that aside-- jade really loves fucking with people. he gets a kick out of scaring his classmates and making them uncomfortable. and thanks to one of his vignettes, he can be quite brutal. nearly beating a group of sharks to death. but getting into jade and violence would need... it's own post tbh.

the call from above immediately snatched floyd's attention. who had decided to skip his first class for the day ( boring shit, he's not in the mood ). a nap was the plan but... maybe it'd change. " eh? " he wont bother answering that question, given his and jade's similarities- it's plenty clear who he is. something about them reminds him a bit of jade--- the jade he doesn't like. the one that pushes his buttons, and pretends to be surprised when he gets mad. " wanting to meet me huhh... i'm usually in the lounge if that's true. " not entirely truthful, but not a lie. " what'cha want? i'm looking to take a real big nap here, so c'mon. "

"Heeey~ You're one of the eel boys right? Kyaha!" He chitters like a cat stalking its prey. From above as well, standing on aloft one of the many garden walls that line the campus. He was peering over, kicking his legs idly until the taller boy rounded the corner, Cheshire-smirk growing two sizes as they did. He speaks sing-song, cheerfully to the other as he feigns misplacing his name. "Mmm, Floyd is it? I've been wanting to meet you! I keep getting put on suspension though so I haven't been around." Jaibo stands, walking along the wall with his arms outstretched for balance, pulling a few leaves off a nearby tree as he does.

particular positive relationships that stick out for me: floyd edition

ace

floyd's birthday jacket vignette is pretty illuminating on his relationship with ace, and honestly,, i love it. he really says things how he sees them, and expresses his opinions openly and honestly. floyd and ace hang out from time to time, especially after or even during basketball practice. they talk about clothes and shoes, and probably a few other fairly silly things. but floyd comments on how ace is fun and all, but he never follows through on things. i really like the fact he said he'd pick ace as a sibling because this precise mentality kinda fits that dynamic.

jamil

complicated. he likes jamil plenty, but post book 3 i think his trust in jamil probably diminishes some. as even the twins express a kind of disappointment in the way things went down. granted, they can't really understand the situation. but from their point of view, kalim has been nothing but nice ( and annoying to floyd ), which makes the betrayal feel very sudden and harsh. i still think him and floyd are friends of course, they do work well when it comes to sports. and i think, due to jamil being so used to kalim's general energy, he's able to adapt to floyd's very well.

kalim

floyd thinks kalim's bubbly and overly kind personality is annoying. but that doesn't mean floyd doesn't like him. he's a lot of fun, and he actually enjoy spending time with him... just in limited bursts. plus, the two of them cooking together or just, enjoying food and or dancing or discussing clothes? great stuff. love it.

epel

god. im sorry. beanfest??? amazing. the conversation he had with epel about just, doing what he feels like was actually kind of wholesome. and if there was anyone i feel definitively has a big brother/little brother dynamic with when it comes to floyd- it'd be epel. i feel like floyd's no bullshit attitude would be something epel admires and likes to be around tbh. though the nickname he gives epel is a bit demeaning, it isn't given with the same sort of intent that he gives riddle his.

trey

okay. listen. hear me out. floyd & trey is a rarepair of mine as it is, but without that i really can't think of a lot of negative that comes between the two. it's a bit mean to say but, trey helping to handle the hearts students. and being vice to riddle, would help him a lot when it comes to just... being able to keep up with floyd. surprising honestly, since trey is just???? so unassuming?? i cannot come up with any other good reason for this. it's just a rarepair i like okay,,,,

lilia

the stitch event sold me on this one honestly. lilia and floyd were great, they got along they worked well together. lilia is kind of the dad of NRC, and pretty much everyone gets along with him one way or another.

there's a couple more, like cater, and silver, and ortho. but these ones really just stuck out to me the most. floyd's definitely difficult, and he can legitimately be a bully at times. but he's also got a couple friends here and there, and shows a lot of potential to maintain a few of these after he's finished at NRC.

ok but on that note. floyd DOES make a lot of threats, or comments that seem like a promise of violence. many of which he likely will never actually follow through with... unless.. you deserve it. he is a violent person, but not all the time. and actually, he can be pretty sweet, friendly, and chill to be around in the right mood.

i'm reading again through his quotes. the jp translations that is, because as we know english butchers everyone's lines.

sometimes his aggression is unintentional, like in basketball. commenting on how he used to get in trouble because his passes were too strong. he doesn't have any issue getting into fights with people in school. but wont necessarily do so unprovoked, or without some kind of reason.

him and jade also share a love for unsettling people. it's entertaining, it's funny to see people panic or grow uncertain about their intentions. i'm def not saying floyd is a nice person, because neither of the twins are. they deserve a lot of care and caution when it comes to interacting. but people tend to remove a lot of the nuance they both have, and it diminishes their characters a lot.
