Roo fidgeted around awhile before curling up on Alex’s lap. He’d usually have curled up in Aiden’s… but… he wasn’t there. The thought started to make him panic, but, before it could get far, Alex started to gently stroke his fur. The rhythmic motion quieted his anxious thoughts. Taking some shaky breaths, Roo shut his eyes. He’d just… take things easy. He was on someone’s lap, he was getting some pats, and he was safe inside with a roof over his head. Even if Aiden wasn’t home, he was alright. … right…? The paint cat’s ear twitched as Alex spoke up. Peeking up at him, he gave a small nod. He didn’t know much about dragons, but storytime usually did him some good. Hopefully it’d help him calm down a little more.
Thunder rumbled softly outside the window.
Mewling quietly, Roo curled up a little tighter. Why did the thunder have to be so threatening? His ears pressed against his head as he dug his claws into Alex’s lap. He didn’t mean to- it was fearful habit. With all the dripping paint and sharp claws digging, it’d be a miracle if Alex didn’t need a change of clothes after this. Roo just gave him a skittishly apologetic look– he really hoped stories would help. He didn’t know how much more of this thunder he could take.
Alex winced slightly when Roo’s claws began digging into his legs. Not the most pleasant feeling, but not anything he hasn’t experienced before. It’s a good thing he brought extra clothes, these ones were going to be covered in paint and torn for sure. But it’s fine. The familiar needed comfort, and he was happy to give it. Sacrificing a pair of pants and a shirt wasn’t a big deal. He opened up the book, and settled a bit more in the chair. He was going to be in that spot for a while, and so was Roo, most likely. He flicked the pages back to the beginning. “Every chapter in this book’s a different legend, but they’re all about dragons. I imagine you wanna hear something to put you in a good mood, sooo...” The sorcerer glanced at the chapter list, before flipping further into the book. “Does a story about a dragon protecting a village from a dark sorcerer sound good?” He glanced down at Roo, giving him small scratches behind his ears as he spoke. “I think it sounds like a good one, my uncle told me about when I was a kid. Though he probably took a few liberties with it...” He chuckled. I should introduce everybody to my uncle sometime... I think they’d get along well.
Alex wasn't quite sure why Aiden asked him, of all people, to watch the apartment and keep an eye on Roo. Especially during this storm... surely Journal would be a better choice? He had no clue. He could at least rest assured that Lucy would be fine while he was gone, storms didn't bother her much anymore. At the moment, he was resting on the recliner, reading one of his new books. Hopefully this would be uneventful... ~ Alex
When Aiden had gone out questing that day, he’d been very glad Alex had said he could watch the apartment and his familiar. Roo couldn’t exactly go on quests in the middle of lakes. Journal might’ve been a better choice to watch things, sure… but he was out on his own adventures. So, that left alex. And, as it turned out, Alex was much better than nothing.
Storms absolutely terrified Roo. They had since the very first one he’d seen. Even if he wasn’t in danger of being rained on, the thunder and bright flashes of lightning were enough to send him skittering for a hiding place. This storm, though, was the first he’d spent without Aiden in a long time. And he wasn’t coping well. Peeking out from Aiden’s armchair, the trembling paint cat gave the window a wide eyed stare. The rain spattering madly against it made him shudder. Tucking his tail tighter around him, he mewled softly to himself. It’s gonna be ok. It’s just rain, it can’t hurt yeh, Alex is here i-if anything were to-
Suddenly, there was a loud crash of thunder.
Roo yowled in terror, bolting out from under the chair to hide under Alex’s. He’d left a streaky trail of paint behind him– the poor familiar was dripping like a busted faucet. Soft yowls continued to bubble up from under Alex’s chair. Roo really wasn’t faring well…

Roo tensed when a face appeared at the side of the chair, but relaxed a tad upon realizing who it was. Alex. It was just Alex. No need to freak out any more than he already was. He trembled softly, wide eyes locked on the sorcerer as he spoke. The patting of the chair made him wince… … but petting sounded nice… Meowing quietly, Roo edged out from under the chair. He was leaving paint on everything he touched. Not that he could help it; the familiar dripped when distressed. He kept sneaking glances at the window. Despite knowing the rain couldn’t come in, it felt as if the water was just waiting to pour in on him. Biding its time before it could soak into him, before it could wash him away to the booming roars of the sky- Shaking off the thought, the familiar held up trembling paws to Alex. A puddle of indigo was starting to form below him. Up? he tried to ask with his eyes. Please? Being stuck meowing in times of crisis wasn’t exactly a useful quirk. The wind outside the window picked up, sending more rain hissing into the glass. Roo flinched, mewing louder. Fearful tears were starting to prick at his eyes. I-I’m scared, Alex. Please lemme up!
Alex quickly reached down to hoist Roo into the chair with him, he’d worry about getting the paint out of his clothes later. He set the distressed familiar down on his lap, letting him get settled before he started rubbing his head gently. He understood where he was coming from, when he was younger he often went to his uncle for comfort when there was a storm while they were on the road. Having the small feline familiar in his lap like this brought back memories, mainly ones of when Lucy was his size, and could fit in his lap. Those days didn’t last long, but he enjoyed them. Sometimes I wish Lucy didn’t shoot up like a weed... After a long moment of silence, and gentle steady petting, Alex spoke up. “You wanna read this book with me?” He stopped petting Roo very briefly, only to start again with his other hand, switching hands so he could pick up his book. “I haven’t gotten very far, so if you wanna read from the beginning with me, that’s fine.” He gave him a small smile, and held up the book so he could see the cover. It seemed to be another book having to do with dragon legends, one of Alex’s favorite subjects. Revaew knows that books always calm his nerves, hopefully it would do the same for Roo.
Alex wasn't quite sure why Aiden asked him, of all people, to watch the apartment and keep an eye on Roo. Especially during this storm... surely Journal would be a better choice? He had no clue. Alex jumped at the crash of thunder, almost throwing his book out of his hands and his glasses off his face. He didn’t, though. He adjusted his glasses, and glanced over at where Roo was. He almost didn’t know he was under his chair, but the mewling gave it away. It reminded him of Lucy’s first thunderstorm... memories. Not great ones, but memories nonetheless. He leaned over the side of the chair. “... you okay, bud?” His tone was soft and quiet. “... I don’t like thunderstorms either, if it makes you feel any better.” He shifted in his seat, placing his book on the arm of the chair.
“They’re loud and scary, and... I hate ‘em too. I have since I was a kid. They’re not fun.” He sighed. “But they can’t hurt you, not in here at least.” He patted the chair briefly, non-verbally beckoning to Roo. “If you feel like coming out from under there, there’s a free spot on my lap. Maybe a little petting would do your nerves some good.”
It’s true, Alex was really not a fan of storms. He hated loud noises, and flashing lights... and storms just combined those things. Sensory overload incarnate. They didn’t frighten him as much as they once did, but he still didn’t like them. He hasn’t had to comfort Lucy in a while, so his familiar comforting skills were most likely be a bit rusty... but he was trying.

“H-hey, ‘s no problem,” Journal mumbled sheepishly. “‘M jus glad I could help...” He reached over to take Alex’s hand; gave it a small squeeze. With a small smile, he leaned his head on Alex’s shoulder. He smelled warmer now. A tad more like the human Alex he knew. “... y’know, I might jus take a nap,” he yawned. His eyes were starting to shut on their own, anyway. Being a boofer and keeping your vamp boyfriend fed takes a lot out of a guy. His ears twitched tiredly. “You don’ mind, right...?”
Alex was not blushing any more than he usually does in these sorts of situations, but, because he was so pale now, it looked about like his entire face was red. He situated himself a bit. “N-no, I don’t mind at all.” Flustered boyfriend achieved. “I-I mean... I’m not tired, but... I don’t need to be anywhere right now.” He rested his head on Journal’s, he felt a lot warmer than he usually did. He wasn’t sure if it was just him, if it was because of his newfound boofer-ness, or if he was colder now because he was a vampire.Either way, it was very nice.

Once Journal’s arm was wrapped, some of the tension left his body. He let out a shuddery sigh. His arm was gonna hurt like hell for awhile, but he was just glad alex looked better. At least he wouldn’t bleed out now. He gave a soft snort at Alex’s comments. “Hey, ‘s fine. You’re a vamp, and you jus had your first meal in days. I know where you’re comin from.” He leaned over to plant a kiss on Alex’s cheek... only to nearly fall over. “Gh-! Ohhh lightheaded-“ he winced, a soft groan escaping him.
Alex has starting to very visibly blush as Journal leaned in... and then flung an arm around him when it seemed like he was about to fall over. He chuckled a bit. “Don’t lean over when you’re lightheaded, you dingus.” He planted a kiss on his cheek, wrapping his other arm around him to hug him. “... thanks, Journal.” He said softly. “I uh... really appreciate it. If you hadn’t said anything, I probably would’ve never even figured out what was going on with me...” Did he feel like an idiot for not realizing the obvious? Oh, most definitely. Not that he’d say that out loud with Journal in the room.

Journal grimaced, immediately slapping a hand over where alex had been feeding. Even from losing that little amount of blood, he felt lightheaded. Some blood was leaking from under his fingers. That was... less than ideal. He was still cursing in pain under his breath as Alex spoke. “I’m glad it worked out-“ he paused with a pained hiss- “and I’m pretty sure the taste is cuz I’ve been eating meat like nobody’s business.” He smiled shakily, breaths short. “S-sorry- gh- could I get a bandage?”
“O-oh yeah! Yeah, sure!” Alex quickly got up to grab a bandage for Journal, and he very noticeably had a more pep in his step, as opposed to the miserable shuffling he was doing before. It wasn’t long before he was back with some bandages. He quickly started wrapping up the bleeding arm, giving him an apologetic look as he did so. “S-sorry... I kinda forgot that uh... that probably wasn’t very enjoyable for you.” He cleared his throat. “If it makes you feel any better, I think that your blood was like... the best thing I’ve ever eaten... uh.” He fell silent for a moment. “Actually I uh. Don’t. Know why that would make you feel better. F-forget I said anything-” He finished with the bandages, and started fidgeting again, talking quietly to himself as he did so. “W-why would you say that, you weirdo-”

The moment Alex picked up Journal’s arm, he started to shiver. Those early doubts were starting to scream at him now. When he actually bit /down/, he bit back a yelp. He grimaced, just trying to stay still and ignore the fact that alex had his teeth in his arm, /oh gosh why is he biting down harder/- A pained whine managed to slip out from his gritted teeth. There was a muffled string of curses a moment later. “Al- alex- I-I’m all for you bein f-fed, but could you /please/ lighten up a bit?!”
Was Alex getting a bit too into this? Yes. Was he so far into it that he was deaf to Journal’s voice at this moment? No. In fact, almost as soon as he was told to lighten up, he stopped. Keyword being almost, because his bite did linger for a bit just to get a little more blood. “S-sorry, sorry!” He cleared his throat, breathing a little rapidly as he may or may not have forgotten to breath during all that. He wiped his mouth with his sleeve, which wasn’t the best idea as he now had blood on his light blue shirt. He spoke up as he was using his sleeve as a makeshift napkin. “… your blood tastes gamey as fuck, by the way.” Probably from eating an entire kitchens worth of meat, if we’re taking guesses. “… I just realized that blood probably doesn’t wash out easily, does it.” He stared at the bloodstain on his sleeve. Yep, that wasn’t coming out for a bit. He licked his lips.… and may or may not have also licked his sleeve for a second before catching himself. He mumbled to himself for a moment. “Well… that wasn’t nearly as bad as I was expecting…” Was he blushing? Yes. Whether it was because of Journal, or just having gotten a healthy dose of blood, wasn’t entirely clear.

“... i was under the impression vampires usually bite necks, b-but, uh, if we could do my arm, I think I’d like that better,” Journal replied. Carefully, he rolled up his sleeve, leaving his forearm exposed. “I think I’m gonna sit for this. Y-y’know. Just to be safe n all.” With that, he plopped down on the couch. The werewolf tried to hide his nervousness that was bubbling up, but he was finding it hard to sit still. “Just, uh, make sure you get what you need, but go quick, I-If you can.”
Alex took a few deep breaths, rubbing his eyes. “I mean... your neck’s not the only place with blood, so I figured I’d give options...” Eventually he just covered his face with his hands, displacing his glasses a bit, and giving a frustrated sigh. “I don’t know what’s worse, this, or that time an anon turned me into a spider monster...” Ah, yes, that was a fun time. It took a minute, but he eventually just sat down on the couch with Journal. It’s fine. It’s fine. I just... gotta bite him... I can’t believe I’m about to just slurp up some blood... After beating around the bush for far longer than necessary, he gently took Journal’s arm. “... I-I’ll try to be careful.” Finally, after far too much delaying, he just bit down on his arm. As promised, he was being fairly careful... though, when he actually tasted the blood, it tasted... a hell of a lot better than he was expecting. He was practically starving, so when something appetizing finally hit his tongue after so long, some of his restraint went out the window, and he started biting harder. It wasn’t like Journal’s arm was going anywhere, but he’d probably be feeling that...

Journal tried not to wince or shudder at Alex’s decision, instead just giving a decisive nod. He’d gotten him to accept /something./ that was better than before. Even if he was having second thoughts. “I’ll take your rabbit, then. I’ve got a feeling I’m gonna need it after this.” He tried for a quick smile. Pulling off his cloak, he tossed it into a nearby chair. He didn’t want to get it bit or bloodied. “You wanna Wait for when Frisk comes, or get it over with now?” he asked hesitantly.
Alex sighed, grumbling a bit to himself. I'm already regretting this... but I really don’t have a choice, do I? After a moment, he looked to Journal. “... I think I’d rather get it over with now before I have a chance to change my mind.” His stomach growled loudly. “... s-so...” He started fidgeting anxiously. “A-am I... g-g-gonna... be biting you i-in the neck...? The arm? H-how are we gonna do this?” He seems a little flustered, but mostly just anxious.

“Because I’m not,” Journal huffed. He was completely determined to get Alex to eat something. There was no way he’d get him to budge now. “Frisk is bringing over a rabbit. If you won’t eat that, then...” He crossed his arms. “I’ll go pop by the library and see how much blood I can loose without dying.” He shrugged, as if it was no big deal. And since he’d made up his mind, it really wasn’t. “Take it or leave it, Alex. You’re gonna eat.” He raised an eyebrow, as if asking for a challenge. Oh boy.
Alex groaned, his irrational brain was telling him no, but his empty stomach was begging him. He was silent for a while, mostly trying to calm down and think this through, but eventually he finally spoke up. “... I’m not gonna drink blood from a rabbit...” He sighed. I can’t believe I’m about to say this... “I... I-I rather feed from you, to be perfectly honest...” See, now we’re making progress. “Th-the thought of feeding from... y-you... just sounds a lot more... appealing, I-I guess.” He laughed nervously. He wasn’t sure if he really thought that, or if it was the vampire talking. But he did really think that.

"Ok, no. When I said you can't starve yourself, I meant it," Journal said firmly. He put his hands on Alex's shoulders, trying to catch his eyes. He really didn't like Alex's sudden headache, and his complete rejection of literal lifeblood didn't sit well. "Listen, I know it sucks- pardon the pun- but I'm serious here. You need food. I'm not gonna let you starve yourself just because you don't like blood." He glanced him over. "Honestly, I'd give you my own. Just- think about this, please!"
Alex looked at Journal when he placed his hands on his shoulders, hand still on his forehead, as if that would do anything to sooth the splitting migraine. The red color surrounding his normally blue eyes were a fair bit more noticeable. He reeled back at that last statement, stammering for a moment before he could find his words. “I-I- w-w-wha- nO! NO! I-I CAN’T DRINK Y-” He grimaced, clutching his head again. “... o-okay, y-y-yelling is not good for migraines, I am a dumbass, d-duly noted...” He mumbled to himself. After a moment, he brought his gaze back to Journal, still wincing. “I-I can’t drink your blood... w-what if I... drink too m-much and k-kill you or something?” He brought his free hand to his stomach, making a sound of rather obvious discomfort. “... why do I have a feeling you’re not gonna give me a choice in whether or not I drink blood from something...?”

Journal grimaced as Alex began to retch. He shoulda known it would go south. Anxiously, he reached down to steady him. "Alex, c'mon, you can't starve yourself!" He whined at the thought. "I promise it won't be so bad! You probably won't even notice if you're hungry enough," he said nervously. He felt like he should've done more vampire research before coming over. Ah well. He just gave Alex some gentle pats on the back. "W-we'll figure it out. Just hang in there, ok?"
Alex tensed as Journal pat him on the back. He tried holding onto the fact that was just a temporary thing, but it did little to comfort him. He let out a deep sigh... though it sounded a bit more like a long hiss, which of course was followed up with him flinging his hands to his mouth.Yeah, a lot of things are making more sense now.“I-I-I- I just- I-I can’t-” He started shaking, and sounded a bit more nauseous. “I c-can’t drink... b-blood...” There’s a difference between can’t and won’t, Alex. “N-no, I’m, I-I’m not gonna, no.” It’s obvious that convincing him will not at all be easy. “I’ll survive... without that, f-for the rest of... h-however long this lasts. I’ll be fine...” He pulled his hand to his head, clutching it. He had a migraine, whether it was from the stress, hunger, or some vampire thing, he couldn’t tell...

“... okay... well...” Journal paused, considering how to phrase this. Having thoughts that went a mile a minute really wasn’t helping him right now. He just sighed. “I dunno how to say this lightly, but you’re a vampire. And. I don’t think I need to tell you what they eat. But it’s not human food.” He fidgeted nervously. “Please don’t freak out— Frisk and I already talked about it, sh-she’s gonna have somethin for you to eat real soon! And it’s gonna be good for you!” He’s trying here.
Vampire.... what was a vampire again? Alex wasn’t particularly well versed in the different varieties of monsters. Which probably isn’t good, considering he’s a questor, and he’s going to have to deal with monsters sooner or later...... wait.“... v-vampire...? That’s... aren’t th-those are th-the... monsters that... drink...” Alex’s face, somehow, paled even more at the thought. He retched slightly. He hated blood, and the thought of drinking it made him highly uncomfortable. He forced an anxious laugh, suddenly standing up and pacing, wringing his hands. “Y-y’know what? I-I can go... for... u-uh, however much longer this lasts! Without eating!” As if on cue, he clutched stomach, almost doubling over. Yeah, no, he would not last as well as he wants to believe. “... I-I’ll be fine... without... b-bl-” He retched again. He couldn’t even say it without getting sick.

Journal winced a little at Alex’s reaction to his ears. He was about to put his hood back up when he caught the panic on his face. Quickly abandoning all thoughts of his own troubles, he reached over to take one of his hands. “Hey, Alex? Just- just calm down a sec, o-okay?” He said hesitantly. “Take a breather. The curse will wear off. W-we’re just, uh kinda magically matching for a bit.” He tried for a smile. “I can tell you what sort of monster, if you want. Might help get you some food, too.”
Journal was always a very grounding presence, which is good, because if he wasn’t, Alex would probably be hyperventilating right now. His panic was still barely contained though, as Alex is rather terrified of monsters, and the idea of being one didn’t sit well with him. He tried his best to take deep breaths, but it seemed to be difficult for him to do that and keep from hyperventilating at the same time.At the mention of food, his stomach growled, and he winced. God, he was starving. “... I... I-I haven’t eaten in. Days, I think.” He mumbled quietly. He was honestly scared to know what he would have to eat, if not regular food. He swallowed the growing anxious lump in his throat and waited for Journal to tell him what exactly the anons did.

Journal came in gratefully, shutting the door behind him. “Eh, don’t worry about the mess. You should see my place,” he joked. “I’m just glad to see you.” He paused for a minute, pulling down his cloak hood. His brown ears flicked back nervously. “... erm... s-So... y’know how you’ve been feeling really bad lately...?” He shifted worriedly. How was he to say this...? Might as well just bite the bullet, he thought. “... you know the anons cursed you into a monster, right?”
Once the door was closed, Alex practically fell on the couch, trying his best to look at least slight less miserable. He rubbed his eyes, and groaned quietly, though when he looked up again, he was more than a little surprised by what he say. He sat up. “... uuuuuuuh.” Needless to say, he was more than a little confused about Journal’s new... features.
However, what he said next, confused Alex even more. “... what?” He said, blankly. “... I’d ask how you know, but uuuuh...” He gestured to his ears. “N-no I didn’t. I uh... knew they did something, but I couldn’t. Really. Figure out what.” He rubbed the back of his neck nervously. “... k-kinda feel a little dumb for not realizing it earlier...” While he seemed to take it well enough at first, his increasing panic very quickly became visible in his features.

“Hey, Alex? You have a minute?” A nervous werewolf stood outside Alex’s door. Looks like Journal’s over for a visit! And he’s got something on his mind. Oh boy.
There was no response at first, but, after a minute, shuffling could be heard on the other side of the door. A click and a creaking sound, and Alex pulled the door open. He looked tired and miserable, mostly the latter, but managed a genuine smile at the sight of Journal. “Hey! I wasn’t expecting you to come over.” He laughed nervously, glancing back inside. “Lucy’s been out picking up groceries while I… just kinda. Feel like garbage.” He pulled the door open the rest of way, stepping aside so Journal could come in. “Th-the place is a bit of a mess right now, but make yourself at home.” He was blushing just a bit, which was more noticeable due to how pale he was now.
