He lay against her chest. He could feel the individual threads of her clothes beneath the hypersensitive spiderweb scars on his face as he listened to that throbbing beat emminating from within her. Her heart. It was hypnotic. When he closed his eyes, he could feel it pulse in time with her power—that radiant star burning in her core. How beautiful. Surrounded by it all—her power, her heat, her light—Shiro felt especially fragile, especially weakened. Like he could just burn away, “So warm...”
Gently filtering her fingers through his white hair, Aeona hummed sleepily in response to his soft comment, oblivious to the weakness he felt in comparison to her presence. The woman knew he was damaged in ways she could not fully understand, but she wanted to be here for him anyways, even if the time was spent simply laying about on the nest of blankets and wasting the day away, it mattered little to her as long as she could be with him.

     { Please be kind to your local amazon workers. Some of us get up at 2am to go to work and make sure your packages are ready to be delivered on time for the day, and with the influx of people staying home and only ordering online, the work can be overwhelming. We have to be the ones going to work so people can get what they need without having to go out and put more people at risk }
     { On another note, I’m exhausted and can’t find the motivation to draw or write with working two jobs, so I’ll probably be minimally active until things work out better }

NO HE DID NOT.
ZED PUSHED THE lantern’s door, closing it as he glanced back towards Aeona. It smelled of old books and a little bit of ink. The Master of the Shadows appeared much calmer, being between the walls of his room.
HIS FINGERS TRACED slowly down the lantern and against the wooden table, which was gathering dust in some untouched spots. His head then turned to Aeona, and he spoke.
“Only the ones I want to keep close.” He answered, his tone is calm, but his words were laced with poison. “So that if they decide to wrong me, I can deal with them personally.”
IT WAS NOTHING personal to Aeona, but after having seen her fair share of magic; appearing out of thin air and portal-opening, topped off with the unnaturally yellow eyes, much akin to his red ones… She was a force to be reckoned with, he could already tell. And there was no one he could trust more than himself when it came to a foreigner needing to be put in their place.
“If all of your words thus far were truth, you shouldn’t be worrying. But you must understand that I would like to keep someone such as yourself close to me until I can entrust you with your own quarters.”
So that’s how it is...
Aeona nodded in understanding of his subtle warning, holding his gaze as she ventured further into the room, toward the bed that looked less touched. The woman knew she had little to worry about, seeing as she had been truthful when telling Zed that her business was not with him or his people, but it would be a lie to say his words had no effect at all.
She had to be careful not to get on this one’s bad side, especially when she had very little knowledge of the scope of his abilities. The same could be said for the other way around though, since the only thing he saw of her was accessing her personal pocket dimension, and she had much more in store for another time.
Breaking eye contact, the masked woman made her way to the bed and took her cloak off before sitting down on the edge of it, leaning back on her hands. It had been a while since she slept on one, and she wasn’t about to turn down the invitation.
“I’m fairly certain I won’t need to go out tonight, but you’re welcome to join me and see for yourself what it is I do on nights where I hunt.”
There was no exact way to tell when that night would come, as it varied from world to world, normally a matter of days as it had consistently been, but the moment she senses a scout around is when she would know the Smekla have touched down. And from there it was a matter of destroying the scouts before the brutes come.
“Until then, I’ll keep you company.”

ZED WATCHED AEONA as she waved a portal open with her hand, similarly to how he operated his own. He didn’t mention her use of magic and simply took note of it, perhaps to bring it up at a later time. Simply nodding with his head a second time before turning the way he’s come from, leading her to his temple.
HIS MEN WATCHED as he returned with the masked woman, the gates opening before them. The garden was wide and open, with two trees just now beginning to blossom, as the spring was young in Ionia. In the center of the garden was a round fountain empty of water. The thing was out of commission ever since the foreigners invaded, and no on of Zed’s men had the time or will to tend to that.
PASSING THE FOUNTAIN, Zed rose in the stairs and into the temple, pacing quietly through the empty hall to the deepest room within it. It was a large office that served as a bedroom, with many worn bookshelves and two tables, two separate beds, and a closet.
“I will introduce you with sunrise.” He declared, lighting a candle in a lantern to keep the room lit.
Taking Zed’s silent observance of her powers as something considered a norm in this world, the woman wasted no time in following him toward the temple, at ease with the thought that her magic wasn’t a huge concern to him, according to his behaviour.
As usual though, she remained a little wary of his people, watching them silently as they passed through the gates to the inner court. The smell of the garden’s greenery was refreshing after having come away from a cold battlefield, the woman glancing up at the blossoms of the trees as they walked beneath them. The place was much more pleasant that she had initially envisioned, even with the empty fountain and signs of lack of care.
Entering the building, Aeona wondered where exactly it was that the Master of Shadows was taking her, golden eyes observing the empty halls as they walked deeper. Was he not introducing her to his men?
It was only when they arrived in the last room that she blinked in surprise, pausing just inside the doorway as she stared at the two beds in the room, silent as he made his decision known. The room was large even for two people to occupy, and she couldn’t help but question if he had brought her to his own sleeping quarters, as it didn’t seem like there were many of this kind of room in the place.
“It feels weird to be let in here so easily,” she piped up after a moment, studying the room where she still stood by the door, feeling a little awkward. “Do you always open your doors to strangers?”

ZED GAVE AWAY a single nod in approval when the younger woman tested his title on her tongue, his otherwise calm and stoic expression unchanging. He did not appear hostile or irritated, but there was but a slight hint of confusion on his features, written across his frown.
PEOPLE SUCH AS exorcists, demon hunters, purifiers and balancers weren’t anything new to Zed as he’s grown up with the Kinkou, in a monestary. He himself knew how to heal once, until he “tainted” himself with the tears of the shadow. He still knew how to stitch a person and heal them, using a needle and herbs, but healing magic wasn’t something his body was capable of producing any longer.
“I understand.” He allowed her to know, but then added. “But I’m afraid I you’ll need to come with me; else this conversation will have to repeat itself each time one of my men will come across you.”
AS HE SAID - this territory was his.
Ah, a nod of approval, a good sign. And he seemed calm enough about her now, the woman pleased she had run into an agreeable person this time around.
“That’s definitely an idea to make things easier for everyone,” she replied before glancing around at their immediate vicinity again. No Smekla around yet, so perhaps there was time to get acquainted enough with Zed and his folks so they could have more than terse conversations and thin threads of tolerance. And if she were lucky, perhaps a meal?
In the meantime, the approaching dusk and light winds was giving her a chill, the woman raising a hand in front of her and waving for a small portal. A purple, flaming disc the size of a frisbee appeared before her and she stuck her hand into it, seeming to rummage around a little before swiftly drawing out a dark, muddy green cloak, wrapping it around her slim figure as the violet flames disappeared.
Immediately after that, the masked woman looked back to the taller man and tilted her head toward his temple, curious about the place and the people he kept company with. “Lead the way.”

THERE WAS SILENCE for a long few moments in which Zed took it upon himself to read into her posture and register the tone of her voice. As per instinct, an urge boiled in him to draw his blades from the thick gauntlets and launch at her for D A R I N G to mock him to his face - however something in him forced the man to remain still in place.
HE WAS CONFUSED from her honesty. Almost as if she truly was a stranger to this world.
ZED FELT SOMETHING was terribly wrong, and furrowed his brows at the woman, A E O N A, before a rumble rose in his chest - almost like a growl. Almost like a purr.
MAYBE A GRUNT.
HE COULD SEND her away to the Kinkou, but there was no knowing on what terms they would meet again. At the same time; he could take her to his own temple. She could be useful…
BUT HE’S HAD enough matters to tend to. Aeona would have to prove herself to him if she wanted anything. Hands clad leather rose to the mask on his face, his eyes closing. With a swift motion the shiny mask turned into a cloud of thick shadow smoke, leaving his pale face bare and the red hood resting on the top of his head.
WHEN HIS EYES opened, they were the color of honey, with no trace of red glow left in them.
“My name is Z E D, I am the Master of Shadows.” He introduced himself, his accent is just barely noticeable. “This is my territory, my little corner in the world -” Added as he gestured to the distant temple in front of them both, in the distance of ten or fifteen minutes a walk. “You are currently standing on the land of Ionia, a land that’s being repeatedly invaded and beaten upon. My Order of Shadow prides itself in pushing back the foreigners and saving our home. For that very reason, I tend to be skeptical of strangers and travelers.”
She tilted her head curiously at his prolonged silence, her question still in the air as she waited on a reply. As it continued, Aeona tried this time to get a read on his energy, spreading out her senses to see what it would tell her of him.
The first thing she discovered is that he had another power within him, some sort of magic, though it was dark and mildly frightening. The second thing was that he was faced with some sort of decision, his energy roiling with uncertainty, though Aeona had asked him precisely what she wanted to know.
Her head straightened when he suddenly raised his hands to the front of his mask, energy flaring as the mask disappeared in a puff, revealing his face to her. He had quite a serious look about him, but still young in her opinion, he must have done some big things to acquire the title ‘Master of Shadows.’
The traveller nodded in response to his brief explanation of these lands, glancing at the temple before returning her gaze to him.
“Understandable... Master Zed?” The masked woman tested the term out, watching for his reaction as she shifted to a more lax stance, a gloved hand on her hip as she spoke in a slightly more friendlier tone. “I don’t mean to be a bother, but I’m going to be hanging out in the area for a while. I’ve got work to do here and fortunately it doesn’t involve you, or anyone else for that matter. I don’t want any trouble.”
