A counter-protester holds up an Israeli flag in front of pro-Palestine protesters. The statement, “kill the Jews,” was used by Northeastern as a part of the reason for clearing out the “Gaza solidarity encampment” in Centennial Common, which resulted in the detainment of over 100 individuals.

one of my "special interests" in the past couple of years has been exploring fast fashion vs. slow fashion. it has been a long journey trying to find clothes that actually 1) fit me 2) look good 3) are made from material that is not actively shoving plastic in the ecosystem 4) involve ethical labor, fair trade, fairly compensated, etc
before i did this research, i really had no clue about fabrics or fashion brands. i used to think i had zero interest in fashion, in fact.
i grew up wearing walmart and thrift store clothes, and when i went to college i bought clothes from target and asos. something started to shift a little bit when i found vintage resellers on etsy and ebay... those clothes were so unique. but a lot of the vintage clothes were polyester blends, stiff, and would fall apart as easily as my asos clothes. i would leave them hanging in my closet and never wear them. i would wear the same old t shirts and jeggings every day. i felt like it was impossible to ever wear comfortable clothes, or ever feel good in clothes, so why bother?
it started with linen. linen is very comfortable and pretty sustainable. i was amazed that i didn't feel the urge to rip my clothes off when i wore linen. lightbulb number one.
a friend let me borrow a nooworks dress, and i went to the store and got some overalls. wow. overalls. lightbulb number two. holy shit, you can wear overalls. you know how people say "not binary or non-binary but a secret third thing." that's overalls.
i realized i loved the bonkers prints that nooworks had, and all of it was soft, and made ethically. it was a higher price point than i was used to, which gave me pause. but then you realize: we're not supposed to be buying dumb clothes every other weekend. and isn't a slightly higher price point for soft clothes that you won't want to tear off your body worth it?
so i started my research. i made a spreadsheet. the prices can be all over the place across brands, so i made a column for prices. sizes can be all over the place too -- people always ask me "where is the plus size slow fashion?" it's there. just look at the size column. people say "isn't it better to buy secondhand?" yeah, it is. i have many links to secondhand sources.
if you have any suggestions or additions please let me know, it is a living document.

Dreams of owning a home in one of Canada's most expensive provinces continue to move further out of reach for most Ontario residents, with a new survey revealing that the majority of prospective homebuyers here would need another form of income to afford a property.
According to RBC’s 30th annual Home Ownership Poll, 60 per cent of Ontario residents polled said they would need a side hustle or a second job to afford buying a home in the province.
The online survey of 2,824 Canadians aged 18 to 64 was completed between January 25 and February 23.
Fifty per cent of Ontario residents surveyed also said that rising inflation is causing them to save less for buying a home, while 31 per cent admitted that they have or will need to live with their parents longer to buy a home.
Despite affordability challenges and inflationary pressures, dreams of owning a home one day are still very much alive for most Ontario residents.  [...]

the real antidote to the problem of "everyone is beautiful and no one is horny" is watching old horny shows like mash. nothing but perfectly normal-looking, homely, average people in that show who hook up with each other or unseen partners on a regular basis. hawkeye is absolutely drowning in sex and the man has such a bizarre mismatched set of randomly strong and weak facial features on a noodle body with dogshit posture. and it's GREAT. you can't tell how soft his jawline is because there's always a woman kissing his neck and blocking the camera. i know i riff on people saying they want to fuck mulcahy until he has a religious epiphany but as a butch lesbian with that exact face shape it's been so healing to be like. ohhhh ok so sexuality and attractiveness isn't just limited to the perfect beautiful poreless people on netflix. i understand now

Lawyers for Ron Barlas and the Łutsel K'e Dene First Nation (LKDFN) met by video in a Yellowknife courtroom Tuesday, for a hearing in the alleged fraud case against Barlas.
Legal counsel for the First Nation continues to push the court to settle the lawsuit without a trial. LKDFN has accused Barlas, the suspended CEO of Denesoline, of misappropriating almost $12 million dollars of its money for personal gain.
Lawyers for the First Nation say Barlas needs to be removed from power, contracts torn up and properties liquidated. The only trial they want, lawyers say, is to figure out damages.
"A court does not need a trial to deal with a case as obvious as this one," said Matthew Sammon, the lawyer representing the Łutsel K'e Dene First Nation. "There's oppression at every level of the CEO's functions."
Barlas continues to deny the allegations. Earlier this month, his lawyers argued his defence in the civil suit, saying LKDFN lawyers had massively overstated their case, taken evidence out of context and downplayed exonerating evidence. [...]
