THANK YOU for the KinnPorsche rec, I've devoured it over the past week and fell in love. All of the couples are amazing, though I am not surprised you fell hardest for Vegas and Pete. Personally, I love Kim and Chay to pieces. Which sucks because it's the ship with the least amount of content LOL, something about the grumpy/cold third son with the sunshine character just got to me. I love how protective Kim is. What do you think of each ship? And can you drop the Vegas/Pete recs you mentioned?<3

Hi! Ooh, I'm so glad you decided to watch this series and loved it just as much as I did! And Kim/Chay has been really fighting Vegas/Pete for the spot of my favorite couple - I adore them, too! So, first my thoughts and then the list with some fic recs.

Kinn/Porsche. I love them, but they are my least favorite couple. It's very interesting to watch them at the beginning and when they have conflicts, but the moment they solve everything, they become boring to me. Largely because they are both pretty good people thrown into harsh circumstances.

I really don't think Kinn is suited for the role of a mafia leader. He never wanted this position and he never developed a passion for it during the series. I think he'll be much happier leaving for an island with Porsche, opening that bar, and singing to his heart's content. Under all the gruffness and mistrust, he's an adorable dork.

Porsche is perfect for Kinn. I can see why Kinn (and people in general) is drawn to him: he's electrifying, things are never boring or pessimistic with him, and these joy and laughter is something Kinn really needs in his life. But Porsche and I don't really vibe well, he's not my favorite type of character.

Pete/Vegas. My favorite couple! They became such a surprise because they got their start so late in the show, I had no idea they were going to be a thing. I thought Vegas was a typical villain and Pete was a typical funny best friend of the protagonist. I didn't watch them all that closely, so when the focus suddenly shifted to them, and in such a fascinating way, I was stunned. That's when the whole show finally began to really appeal to me - they made me re-watch it all from the beginning, paying much more attention to it this time.

I do wish they got more screen time, but I'm pretty happy with what we got. Pete and Vegas give off strong soulmates vibes: two people who have been wearing masks all their lives, who have nearly lost sight of their real selves, who desperately need to be seen and loved and accepted for who they are. They are fucked up, but once they hit it off, they get this unique cozy bubble just for the two of them that no one else can breach.

Pete in particular fascinates me. He's a very complex character, I'm still not sure who he is and how much darkness he has inside, what its extent can be. I also love the directing choices with him: he gets blurred and is shown standing as a part of background so often - this underlines how unseen he is feeling.

Kim/Chay. It feels like I love them more and more with each day! They definitely got the least amount of attention, but I treasure all their moments. Kim is such a cold and complex character - the more glimpses of the real him we got, the more madness and darkness I saw. Porchay is also very interesting. In some ways, despite being an absolute sunshine, he's the strongest and the most decisive character: Pete and Porsche forgave Vegas and Kinn quickly, but Porchay didn't. He gave Kim a chance to explain everything, and when Kim didn't do it, Chay shut him out completely. Kim's attempts to get him back were met with the same wall of silence and rejection, and I admire it because I love characters with such a steely core.

Also, Chay is just so genuine… I cringed and face-palmed for the majority of his scenes, but that's because I'm a pretty closed off person, so seeing someone being so open and bold and unapologetic about his deepest feelings was a shock to me. I did enjoy it tremendously, though, so I can see why someone like Kim fell for him so completely.

Now, as for the fic recs! There will be few for now because while I have many more stories I loved, I don't remember the names of most of them, lol. I always read way too quickly the first time. I can make a proper list later, when I do a re-read.

Pete/Vegas:

I'll fill the graveyards, until I have you. I think even people who didn't watch the show can enjoy it because it basically starts from the beginning of Pete and Vegas' relationship. This huge story presents its own take on canon: the obsession is so well-written, I have no words. It's intense to the point where Vegas can't even focus on having a conversation with an important contact because he sees Pete in the vicinity and his attention just automatically goes to him. He can't breathe without him, he can't sleep without him, and while Pete is much more reserved because of their history, he definitely returns the favor.

Home is Where Your Teeth Sink, Love. This is mostly an AU, so I think people with no knowledge of the show can still like it. This story has my absolute favorite version of Pete, who can be as unhinged as he is kind, and he and Vegas speak their own unique language that no one else can understand. The obsession, the emotions of the break-up and the mystery of why it happened, the longing and Vegas' mindless willingness to do anything to get Pete back - I loved it. The ending is rushed, but while it's unfortunate, it didn't lessen my enjoyment.

Red Red Rabbithole. A complete AU that I couldn't put down for a second. It's a crazy, brilliant story with so much tension and intensity that I'm still not over it. I can't say much because I might spoil the major plot twists, but wow. I think it has one of the best portrayals of psychopathic characters I've ever seen. Words alone cannot do this story justice - something always happens there, and the focus remains largely on Pete and Vegas and their insane relationship.

Kim/Chay:

dancing with our hands tied. A great post-canon fic with a pretty dark Kim. The first couple of chapters in particular made me hold my breath with the tension and the danger.

when the sun came up (you were looking at me). I refused to read this story for ages because it has the kind of plot that I'm usually not interested in (Chay turning into a kitten). But everyone kept recommending it, so I finally gave it a shot, and wow! I didn't expect such delicious angst. It's perfect - basically, Chay gets a chance to watch Kim fall completely to pieces over him missing.

An Elegant Mechanism. A/B/O with a deadly omega Kim and a kind, wonderful alpha Chay. I loved how Kim was so wary and suspicious at first, and how he began to melt upon realizing that Chay isn't just pretending, he's really that wonderful.

Desperate Measures. I remember enjoying it, but I don't recall much of it now.

Progression. The last but in no way the least! I fell completely in love with this post-canon story. It doesn't have the kind of Kim I usually go for, he's not as dark as I envision him, but his obsession with Chay, his absolute misery over Chay not speaking to him - it held me hostage. This story is perfect for people who watched the show and loved most of the characters because while Kim and Chay remain the central couple, everyone gets development and plot arcs. There is such a strong feeling of togetherness here, of partners and brothers and friends loving each other - I found Progression to be a great, soothing comfort to me.

Explicit? Nope. It's not at all. But the connection between Kim and Chay is amazing. Even if you usually read the explicit stuff this one is worth your time.

Why should you read this fic?

Kim is Wik, our favorite pop star by day but going on missions for his dad by night. He meets Chay (in a dark alley no less) and Chay recognizes his idol. Kim it turns out has already been stalking Chay a bit online and poof, sparks fly.

Chay is drawn into the world of his idol and the Mafia as the events of the show happen. Kim finds someone who can see him clearly and still adore him.

The chapters flow easily from one to the other. The author clearly is delighted to be writing and their enjoyment comes thru.

Final thoughts:

For me, this is a top tier fic of the KP fandom. It's one of my go-tos when I need some comfort and solace and it never lets me down. If you haven't read much KimChay or limit yourself to KinnPorsche or other explicit material you are missing out to skip this one. It's very well written and is deliciously long so you get to immerse yourself fully into the world.

jeff's newest MV is so funnnn. I love how at first it's like he's getting revenge for her, all well and dandy, but as it goes on you realize that she's totally using him as a means to eliminate a bunch of people (as she gets stronger and he collects all her wounds...) I can't tell from comments if anyone else is reading it that way but it's just SO giving 'She's manipulating him' and I love the vibes there—mob man getting used and not noticing bc of love. Like the way the hits just keep adding up and adding up. And at the end once she's gotten everything she needs, she disappears. Also the song itself is bomb. I love this song.
