P9. EMOTION

For my project I chose to work with nostalgia/sadness. I built a TV out of cardboard and used my iPad to simulate the screen of the TV. I edited a video with all of my favorite moments of the year so far and put them together with an old song and a filter so it gives that nostalgic feeling, and to illuminate the subject I utilized two sunset lamps so it looks cozy. I placed it on top of my desk because that’s where I would put a TV if I had one.

Since my plaster project was art related I decided to stick to it and paint/draw blindfolded, BUT i’ll be painting eyes. I’m thinking of keeping the video b&w until I finish to reveal the colors and I’ll probably draw with oil pastels or crayons to use texture for guidance.

My finished piece is an art palette named ‘her.’ I made this palette as a reminder that I am an artist and that I am good enough. I tend to struggle with confidence in my art and, to be honest, I don’t even see myself as an artist. Ironically, I’ve been creating art for practically my whole life, and I often hear from friends and family how ‘good’ I am. This palette is my way of giving myself a visible reminder that I truly am a good artist.

Plaster Ideas

Unfortunately, I didn’t get to make eight sketches :(

Since the theme for our project was very broad I decided to portray “ self ” as an object instead of the shape of my body or parts of it.

1- A coffee pot which I call “ greca ” I grew up in the Dominican Republic and this is where we make coffee, I L O V E coffee so I thought this could represent me and where I come from.

2- Headphones, this one I liked but ended up thinking it was basic, I always and I mean always wear my headphones, I literally can’t live without music.

3- A beer, specifically a Presidente, also from the Dominican Republic to represent me and my roots…..I don’t really drink that much so that was a no.

4- My face ? I thought of altering my face features, that was an immediate no.

5- An art palette.
