░ 🌳 ░ ❝ What’d you expect ? ❞ He wiped the sweat from his forehead as he smugly soaked in the compliments. If he impressed Gwen, Kurt knew he did a pretty good job. ❝ Just drop by whenever and I’ll take care of it for you . Shouldn’t take too long as long as you got the materials . ❞
He’ll have to start investing on a forge for himself, however. He can’t be a student of the University forever, and while he can always rent out their forge, he’d rather… not. Maybe one of these days he’ll get a small house for himself like Gwen’s and have a forge there. Or, he’ll convince Gwen to get a forge, pfft.
He doesn’t worry about that for now and was just glad he was successful in his deals today. He expected her to go now that had her items, but he just had to go and saw a few more things. It was a little embarrassing to get support from her, but he appreciated them nonetheless. ❝ Thanks . I will ❞
He turned around pretending to busy himself with organizing the ores he had in hand, but really he was just hiding his embarrassment. Next time, he won’t let his guard down so easily, tch.

Conclusion: Taking the five books with them, Dia entrusts them to Gwen and to Arcadia Explorer’s Guild. To leave them here in the island would risk them being stolen. And so, to immortalize them and their story, they are protected at the guild and are advertised to the public. If they wish to see Storyteller’s Keep and live the experience each book holds, they may ask a Guild member to accompany them to the island to unlock the dome and place the books in the pedestal. They might have accidentally removed the magic from one book (blue book), but the four others were still locked-- as they should be.
The Guild was entrusted with the duty to make sure those books would remain locked and accessible for all that wish to see the stories made by a loving father for his daughter.
And the photo they acquired from the first book? It’s put up in display in the guild, along the storyteller’s journal. So all that wish to know their tale may see the love shared between the family of three.
The books they salvaged from the burnt house, on the other hand, were preserved and restored, now displayed at Clove Villa. The illusion books and notes were sent along to Arcadia Explorer’s Guild together with the personal belongings of the family. But the novels they have collected remained at Clove Villa.

rxzberries:
[🐎] — The only response Gwen gets from Georgia is a nod and lengthy swig of her Trojan Horse. There wasn’t much to say to that, really. The two of them had the sort of unspoken understanding that wasn’t common between most people, which meant that sometimes, words just weren’t needed. Both she and Gwen understood that their work and animals came before anything else, and there was no room for argument.
Although… certain people in her life right now made her want to challenge that belief, sometimes. But she wouldn’t abandon her work, not even if it meant spending more time with one of her most favorite people in the world.
Georgia’s train of thought moves away from that when Gwen changes the topic, and the redhead finds herself nodding in agreement again. “Seriously. I’ve really only got Kana at the moment. He can be a total dunce with certain things, but he knows his way with animals. Maybe I should bring on a few more helpin’ hands… volunteers…? No, I’d have to train ‘em, and I might not have the time…”
She shrugs and takes another sip of her beer. That was something she’d have to sort through later. For now, she puts her work out of mind and listens to Gwen, snorting a little when she comments on her near-obnoxious fixation on perfection. “Look, you’re not gonna be perfect right out of the gate… even if it IS you.” She smirks, “Trust your employees! You wouldn’t have kept them on without a good reason. I don’t know the others, but I can guarantee Claire is a damn good fighter. Good work ethic, too. She won’t let you down.”
“But since we’re not in the Guild right now, we can move away from that sort of talk.” Georgia chuckles, tapping the rim of her glass. “Here we are, ‘relaxing’, and yet we’re still worryin’ ourselves over work! Why don’t you tell me somethin’ else, liiiike… any new, non-work related developments in your life?”
“Careful. If I get desperate enough, I might steal him from you. He’s got a mouth that never shuts up but if he works well, I don’t think it matters.” It was mostly a joke and she was sure it wouldn’t come across as anything but that. Gwen wasn’t one to back stab people, especially a friend.
“Oh? Is Claire a friend of yours?” She takes a moment to think about it and with their personalities? She could see it. “You two seem like good friends.” She smiles at that, finding their friendship endearing.
Gwen takes a moment to have another swig at her drink, pausing only when Georgia scolded her somewhat regarding her choice of conversation topics.
“What can I say, my work is my life.” She chuckles, not at all shy to admit that. She does, however, understand where Georgia was coming from. Today was a day of rest and it should be the one day Gwen separates herself from her work. A break of sorts. “I know what look, and I know what you’re trying to inquire-- honestly, I don’t think I’ve been on a date in ages.”

“The idea of finding a partner is just so tedious. Even a casual date doesn’t have much charm for me lately-- if I have enough time to make small talk with a stranger, I might as well do something more productive. Train some new racers or train myself.” It was at the mention of training that made her remember that something did happen as of late. Something big. And something intriguing.
“Oh-- actually. Did I ever tell you about a race I had some weeks ago?” She paused, reaching for her drink. “I raced with Kurt. And he beat me. Not just once, but in two rounds. Who’d have taught being smitten over someone could inspire you enough to race fast?”

░ 🌳 ░ Normally he’d settle for a close match at best, but this time around, Kurt wanted to win. His nerves got the best of him but his focus never left him. Together with Midnight, he started off slow until he got a good pace going on for him. He lagged behind Gwen for a good half of the track, but like in the earlier round, he and Midnight sprinted pass him, taking the lead and keeping it for as long as he can.
The finish line right in front of him, and ignoring Gwen, Kurt aimed to just cross the line and give it his all, regardless if he was against the best racer he knew. And to his surprise? He did it. He crossed the line without anyone in front of him.
❝ I won . ❞ He repeated her words, unable to believe it himself. After years of racing with Gwen and watching her back as she crosses the finish line, he finally did it. It was never a strong goal since he long accepted she was the best and will always be the best. But today…
— ( Is this the effect of having a strong resolve? )
She always lectured him about these sort of things. About having the drive and the passion. Kurt wasn’t the most open and expressive guy out there so he always lacked in that department.
Today, however, he crossed the line he never thought he could. He got through Gwen. He looked back at Gwen, still startled and at a loss for words. Thankfully she did the talking for them and he simply listened as he got down from Midnight. ❝ …good job, buddy . ❞ That was the lamest congratulations in history but Kurt was still in shock. He pinched himself just to be sure but what his surrounding didn’t change. This wasn’t a dream.
Facing Gwen with a less confused look now, Kurt nodded at her words and returned the small smile. She always looked out for him. That part won’t change. He knew that. But he was glad she wasn’t going to treat him like a child that couldn’t do anything on his own now. Slowly, he was getting his independence and aimed for what he wanted in life. It was good to know he had her support.
Uncharacteristically, he reached out for a hug. Gwen was right. Kurt preferred the lack of it. But moments like these? He’d make exceptions. He didn’t know how to respond to her with words, so he hugged her instead, tightly at first before easing into it.
❝ Not a word. ❞ He warned her, not wanting to make a big deal out of the gesture.
Gwen wanted to tease him for being so shocked and confused on what to do. She was patient in waiting for him to get to his senses and realizes that he did indeed win against her, and that was no small feat.
“The both of you were amazing. Weren’t they, Millie?” She turns to her partner and best friend, nuzzling her snout lovingly. Even if they lose today, she was still proud of Millie. That will never change.
When Kurt finally faced Gwen once more, it came as a huge surprise for her when it was Kurt himself that initiated a hug. The tightness of the hug made it seem more real-- awkward yet endearing just like the man giving it to her.

“Okay.” It was still a word, but she had to respond somehow, delight and fondness clear in her tone and expression. She smiled as she returned the favor, hugging him tightly as well before settling more a gentler embrace. Goodness-- Kurt grew up right before her eyes, and here he was, breaking out of his shell to be expressive.
She was certain it wasn’t because of her influence. He would have done so years ago if it was. This? This was due to Kurt’s new resolve. She has to meet this lady of his and thank her properly for inspiring her younger brother to be more open. She might not know it herself, but Gwen was certain Kurt was inspired and motivated because of his love.
She was the first to break free of the hug, the smile on her face never leaving her. She patted Kurt once more on the shoulder before suggesting: “How about we clean up and head back inside for a snack? I’ll cook you something tasty. ‘Been experimenting lately with some ingredients from the ranch.”
“You should learn to cook more. It’ll relieve me knowing you know how to cook good food.” She pauses, her smile turning mischievous as she added, “Your lady friend might like you more if you impress her with some culinary skills~”

It might have come to a surprise to Dylas when he received a delivery the next day since he didn’t order anything, but the items that arrived were all from a Gwen M. It was a Mystic Fishing Rod and a Fishing Boat. She knew he was having a hard time on his own so she figured to give him a little help.
There was a note included in the delivery: “Here’s a little something to get you started. I won’t take no for an answer, so don’t bother returning it.”
░ ⚡ ░ ❝ What the — tch , I didn’t ask for this ! ❞ Oh, it came as a shock alright. He even yelled at the delivery guy for pranking him. But as he was given the letter and realized it wasn’t a prank at all, he felt nothing but embarrassment for his initial reaction and for the gift itself.

His debt towards people just kept increasing. Who knew having nice people around would be this troublesome? He was already having a hard time trying to make up for their kindness and now… damn it.
He’ll just have to thank Ponytail later and maybe drop by with some fish…

░ 🌳 ░ Kurt grumbled under his breath when he sees Gwen approaching. He already expected a lecture and true enough, that was exactly what she did. ❝ I don’t expect any considering you’re here to scare them off . ❞
He might have been lacking in social skills, but she didn’t have to rub it in. As always, she was just looking out for him, but she can’t exactly expect him to just stand there and just take her lectures. ❝ For the record , I already sold a lot of my wares . If you’re not buying anything, I’m kicking you out . ❞ He didn’t mean that, but he’d personally like it if she checked out what he was selling. It’s been a while since he made her something apart from the wooden horse carvings he makes in his free time.
Thankfully, she does order something. ❝ Got it. ❞ And just like that, after bickering like they always do, Kurt started working on Gwen’s orders, making sure they were nothing short of perfection. This was Gwen after all. If he showed even the smallest of flukes, he won’t hear the end of it.
Once done with the horse-shaped earth guardian, he started working on her requested spear. For someone like Gwen, power and sturdiness was a must and so he focused on just that.
❝ It’s called Legion . ❞ He presented the spear, proud of his handiwork. ❝ It’s strong enough on it’s own, but I can add enhancements to it if you have the right material. ❞ He doesn’t even bother mentioning the price knowing fully well that A.) Gwen has the money and B.) he won’t ask for a fee. A free enhancement is the least he could do for her.
— [ +30,000G ]
Previous Balance: 123,950G New Balance: 153,950G
“Oh, have you? Well then, you’re fairing better than I expected.” Gwen chuckled at that but didn’t actually mean it. She of all people expects great things from him, and it was good to know he wasn’t completely slacking off.
She observed him work, marveling at the complexity of crafting and how he seems to do it with finesse and expertise. She shares the interest and tinkered around with wood and metal when she as the time, but she was in no way as capable as Kurt.
When he was done, she took the Earth Guardian he created and admired the details on the horse. She was used to receiving carved wooden horses from him, but this was different. She can feel some magic emanating from the horse guardian.
And as for the spear? She tried it immediately after it was given, swinging it a few times at an empty space and loving how light yet sharp it was. “Impressive handiwork here, Kurt. I might not need another weapon for a long time.” She paid him what she owed him and considered his offer with the enhancements. “I’ll have to do my own research for the enhancements, but I’ll keep that in mind.”
Now that her orders were finished, it was time to go. She was incredibly part of him, and while she was teasing him relentlessly earlier, she really just wanted the best for him. So before she left, she made sure to say just that. “Good job, Kurt. Keep it up.”
And with that, she left. New weapon and accessory in hand.

Work at the Explorer’s Guild was always quite a treat. Getting to listen to all of the new discoveries, overhearing exactly what treasures people found out on the open sea, and gathering all the information he could possibly want. The perks were simply captivating to Rylan, and it was only natural he would continue his work even as ‘Rylan.’
Of course, there were also the cons of working at such a place. Namely, actually working.

“Oh, I’ll be right over,” Rylan called out to the brand new guild master, walking over with a curious look on his face, “And just exactly is all this?”
After calling some help over, she finished up signing the necessary papers and inspected if everything was there. Just as she finishes, Rylan arrives and she turns to him to answer his inquiry.

“It’s supplies. Necessities for voyages, a restock on new weapons. Letting the Guild’s money go unused is a waste, and here’s the fruit of it.” She picked up one of the boxes and handed it over to the taller man, “And I’ll need you to help me take these to the supply room.”

( @valkyrgwen )
░ ⚡ ░ Dylas wasn’t familiar with Arcadia. He’s been asleep for hundreds of years, and apart from being in new land, the time’s most certainly have changed. What hasn’t changed, thankfully, was the significance of fishing in a man’s life. As an uneducated man who only knew how to fish, it was natural that his first order of business after calming down and settling at present time was to find a source of income. That meant fishing for Dylas and in order to fish, you need a rod.
— ( now where the hell can I get one? )
His search for a store that can sell him that tool that he needs let him to local carpentry. He was told — after much struggle in trying to talk to anyone without scaring them off — that the carpentry can sell him any tool that he needed. That better be the case cause he was starving and there was no chance he’ll leech off the tiny farmer girl again.

❝ I need a fishing rod. ❞ Dylas requested plain and simply at the Carpentry’s cashier. He saw stacks of wood, furniture, and some tools, but he wasn’t sure which one he can buy. He barely had any Gs to his name but he’ll change that as soon as he gets himself something to fish with. ❝ The cheapest you’ve got . ❞
In the afternoons after she’s done with her part at the ranch, Gwen can be found at the Carpentry, taking charge in most of the sales while the carpenters do their job. She was doing inventory when a customer drops in and while she heard the request, she didn’t supply it immediately. The voice was too familiar.
She went back to the counter and does indeed find a familiar face. The injured stallion turned man. “I’m surprised you fish, Dylas. Are you just starting or do you have experience? If you are-- why are you settling for a cheap rod?”

“The cheapest that we have costs 5,000G but I don’t recommend getting a rusty tool, especially if you plan on using it to get food. How about this one instead?” Instead of fetching the rusty fishing rod, Gwen puts on the counter the regular kind. She was a firm believer one should not jeopardize quality after all. “It’s not the best that we have, but it should give you a better chance of catching fish. Interested? It’ll cost you 8,000G.”
